8thSin, I'm really glad that your team decided to sub this series. ^^v I enjoyed the Saiyuuki subs immensely and was hoping that you would take up one of the dramas I planned to watch this season. ^^v The fact that it's Busukoi makes it that much better! :thumright: Keep up with all the awesome work!

It is works like yours(almost like international cooperation) that make possible to overcome the languages barriers helping people around the world to understand others cultures and enjoy different entertainments just for the pleasure of it, and besides that, help to awake the interest of people to learn other languages.

Well, I just found out I have to cover someone's shift for the weekend and pokute also has a situation, so we will aim for Monday :-(

We believe in quality over speed, but we will get all the episodes out as soon as we can. There will be 2 versions of the softsub. One in SSA viewable by VobSub or any other SSA compatible players, and one in standard .srt for non-Windows users.

Expect great subs on Monday or Tuesday!

Yep, that was the one... It wasn't too bad once I figured out the right regular expressions to just do a find/replace with, but it was still a mild annoyance. Of course, I'll take any subs I can get without complaint.

Maybe I should make cgi's out of my subtitle mangling scripts and let Ruro link to them on my server (so the cpu grinding happens on my machine)? That way people could make their own srt's out of any ssa or ass format subs.

Question for Windows users.

I forgot if "Kristen ITC" was a standard font that came with Windows. Can someone check their Word to see if you have "Kristen ITC", "Comic Sans MS", and "Perpetua" font installed?

Thanks~

Of those, ONLY Comic Sans MS is a standard Windows font — so I'd recommend against using the other two.

For future reference, you can see the complete list of fonts installed by several different versions of Windows right HERE.

Progress report... Bum-buppa-bum! Editing is done, now 8thSin just has to work his magic on the SFX (after QC'ing my editing... sometimes I go a little bonkers), and then everybody else will get to cry at the part I cried at while I was editing it ;^)

This show is really fun. I think once the subs start popping out this is gonna be a 10,000 dowload show. I have no idea how this show got pigeonholed as cruel and insensitive... It's normal in a Jdorama for the first episode to contain a lot of "acting out" by the central characters, and this show is no exception. I don't recall anyone getting all worked up about how HYD toyed with the viewer over rape in the first episode... Nothing in this show even suggests that anyone suffers more than an aggressive face washing with an oshibori.

The "hook" of this show is that it is both self-referential in terms of the main story, and also that it offers an interesting view of the nature of television writing as a business in Japan. It appears to me that the writer(s) of this show are making quite an effort to tell an entertaining story and to simultaneously excite sympathy for those who work to make the production entertaining. There are some jarringly realistic moments, for example when the police drama actress is appealing to the writers to write things for her to act in. It's a very small part of the story, but it's a detail that really helps to make the world within the show seem that much more complete. There are numerous similar details in the first episode, I don't mean to exaggerate the importance of that one moment, but to use it as an example.

At last, it's out. This is a really fun series to sub. Will try to catch up soon.
We put a lot of time into these, and I think the quality of these subs are extremely high. Enjoy~

Anyways, I can't get the ending theme: Koda Kumi's "Koi no Tsubomi" out of my head! It's such a nice happy song. It took me about 50 listens to get the lyrics right though... :blink
This could be my 2nd favorite Koda Kumi song of all time :music:

Wow, that screencap of the .ass subs looks great!

Thank you for all your hard work! I skipped through the file just now, and it looks wonderful. I love the little notes you have added, too. :D

And now I'm off to watch the first episode in it's entirety~ ;)

This is the slickest, most professional SOFT sub release I've ever seen! It has the look and feel of one of SARS's super-detailed HARD sub jobs — but it has the highly desirable benefit of not actually being hard subs, so I can turn the subs off when my Japanese is finally good enough that I don't need them!

MANY THANKS TO THE WHOLE TEAM!

p.s.: Including the non-standard fonts was a very cool idea, too! Very nice job, all the way around!

YAYYYYY!! YAAAYYY!!!!

But, I am so bummed... I can't see 8thSin's killer typesetting on my Linux computer!! We did the .srt file especially for poor shmucks like me who can't see the fancy stuff, I try to make the .srt file compatible with the "lowest common denominator", so that people who only have access to things like mplayer get the best subs possible with their limited software.

But 8thSin's typestting is so cool, I'm gonna have to put everything on a dvd and ask my neighbor to let me watch it on her computer!!

And the rest of teh poor shmucks out there appreciate it.... though subs are about the only category in which I'd classify mplayer as "limited"...

@Jenden - Yes, I agree... Mplayer is the most brilliant A/V tool in the universe, but it's lacking a proper library for title rendering. I recently converted some VFR (variable-framerate) video to ntsc-dvd format using mplayer as the frontend... It took quite a bit of poking around to figure out how to make it work, but it did, and I got perfectly synced audio and video, and beautifully rendered hardsubs (albeit centered along the same Y value for the duration of the video). Unfortunately, most of the people who are writing A/V code for Linux are not interested in subtitles. This will eventually change, just like the format focus shifted from VCD to DVD ~2 years ago... Interest in films made outside of the U.S. will inevitably increase as people become bored with the repetetive crap that the studios feed them. I love to bask in the dull light emanating from the eye sockets of Quentin Tarantino fans when I tell them about Takeshi Kitano and Takashi Miike.

So, can somebody who can see the fancy typesetting tell me... Does "pokute" show up in "Cactus Sandwich" font? I wanna see a screenshot!!
