Iguana no Musume [Eng Subs] (Complete)

Postby awrittensin » Fri Apr 07, 2006 7:54 am

This project is completed.

Here is the wiki link: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Iguana_no_musume
Please discuss all spoilers here: Iguana no Musume Discussion Thread

ATTENTION users who have had trouble with the timing of these subtitles!

The timing on these subtitles are correct. I know because I time them manually, by myself, and rewatch the episode to ensure accuracy. Just lately a handful of people have mentioned timing latencies in this and other projects of mine. It might have to do with people switching to newer media players that aren't compatible with .sub files.

If you tried to convert the .sub file to a .srt file, there may be problems with the timing based on the different file formats. The solution for this is to open the file, and change the first line from {1}{1}25.000 to {1}{1}29.970.

If you are a Mac user, another member posted a solution with screenshots here.

Translation Notes on eps 5&6:
Forgive the lack of specific translation for the tutoring scenes. It's not plot-relevant, and I haven't stepped foot in an algebra classroom in over 7 years! I can't understand it in English much less Japanese! :alcoholic: I think you guys will forgive me, though.

Thanks for subbing this! I thought the title and premise was a bit strange (to say the least) but I decided to give it a try - and I'm glad I did! The first episode was priceless - and surprisingly moving. I really enjoyed it, and I know now that I'll be on the edge of my seat for the next ones to come out. So keep them coming! Off to watch #2!

If you tried to convert the .sub file to a .srt file, there may be problems with the timing. The solution for this is to open the file, and change the first line from {1}{1}25.000 to {1}{1}29.970. Other than that, I'm not sure what the problem could be, as I have been subbing drama using the .sub format and the same subbing program for over a year now and to this point you and one other person are the only one who has ever mentioned any problems with timing.

I hope that works out for you, otherwise I don't know what to tell you!

I've got the same timing problems, ZeeSeeS: The subtitle lines show up quite a while after their corresponding spoken lines (at least five seconds or so).

I normally use Crystal Player, so I tried playing it in BSPlayer instead, and the timing appears to work correctly in that -- but for whatever reason, the audio wouldn't play. So then I tried Windows Media Player Classic, and both the subtitle timing AND the audio worked just fine.

I have no idea what the problem might be, or why things worked differently on my system than on yours, but it may be some comfort to know you're not the only one having the problem.

Anyway: Thanks very much (as always) for the subtitles, awrittensin!

Ye its kinda relief to know that Im not the only one with this problem.
Kinda weird that BSPlayer works for me and not windowsplayer classic and the opposite for you But since it works who cares ne ? xD

WOW, thanks for the hard work. This is a very good drama and very wierd...haha. I dunno if they are really iguanas or the mother is a wacko. The girl in there, she's a very good actor.

OH yeah. as for the timing, it was a problem when I converted to SRT cuz I always thought only SRT works. I just left it as a sub and it worked fine.

I use ffdshow for subs and windows media player.

yeah!!! I'm so happy. This drama is so awesome - I never know whether to cry at the plight of the characters - you really feel for them, or to laugh at the ridiculousness of the concept. Great job on the subtitles. Thanks for getting them out so quick! Can't wait for this one to download.

I tried watching this on a Mac using VLC and had timing problems, but I took your advice, chose "Override" and set the fps to 29.970. Works perfectly.

Lian: I'm on OSX as well running VLC (.8.5 test 3) but can't seem to fix the subtitle issue. You say that you choose "override" - where did you do that? I've added in the {1}{1}29.970 code as well... Thanks for any help.

When you open the Open File window:

click on "Load subtitles file" and "Settings." That will bring up this second window:

Hope that helps.

Thank you Lian! that works perfectly. I always open files with either Command-O or using the file itself, so I totally missed that. And it looks like you don't need to edit the .sub file with the new time code if using this method. I'd found an elaborate way of doing the same thing through Preferences > Input/Codecs > Demuxers > Subtitles, but that was a lot harder. Thanks for helping.

And a big thanks to awrittensin for such fast and good subbing. I can finally see all of your hard work!

After another in a line of members contacted me about timing problems, I addressed the issue on the front page of this thread. Please check it and try those solutions.

The first few were very polite, but now it's gotten to the point where I am getting some rude emails "accusing" me of timing my subtitle files incorrectly. I think the majority of the members who download my subtitles know that I produce very high quality subtitles, alone, and I do quality checks to ensure accuracy.

Now that I've posted this on every subtitle thread for every project I've done, there is no longer an excuse to me rudely email me.

Just to tell you.. The timing isn't off or anything. The subs work absolutely perfect for me... ^^
You are doing great work, so don't let this stupid people get you down or something like that. Try to ignore them. Just delete their mails... They are stupid anyways if they can't ask more friendly...
They should be happy that you do all this work... not angry just because it isn't working correctly for them. I don't think that this has anything to do with the work you did, but with the programs they use... Cause it really works fine!

... ^^ that's all... uhm...

Thanks, Karo, I really appreciate that!

I agree, I think it has to do with the programs people are using. Now VLC player is getting popular, but before a lot of people started using that, not even one person mentioned a timing discrepancy in any of my sub files and I've been subbing for a whole year now! That is what makes me think it is their program.

Also, like I said - I time everything manually myself and I rewatch the episodes to make sure the timing is correct.

But I know a lot of people are nice and supportive, so thank you to everyone like that.

Thank you so much for this drama! My husband and I just watched episode 1 - it was great! I felt like crying at the way Rika is treated. I love the mystery part, too - is she or isn't she?

For what it's worth, the subs played just fine on my machine. :)

now you made me REALLY curious! Haha! Can't wait to watch it. I really can't imagine mommy-iguana getting meaner than she is now. Poor daddy :P
Thank you very much for this project, I really enjoy this series! Your subtitles are really excellent, timing, grammar - translation I can't tell, but all makes sense. Thank you for the love and care you put in this project :thumright:
And for the records (regarding the timing problems):
I didn't have any problems at all and I use BS Player 1.35 (when it was still free). But as doc_tomoe already pointed out, the windows mediaplayer with Windows XP plays the subs just fine (I have vobsub installed).

Thanx a lot for doing Iguana, I like it lots ^^ Just wondering if anyone has the same problem as I do... when I play the files, it kinda slow down sometimes? So that it seems like ppl are suddenly going into slow motion and then it stops so I need to forward a bit in order to continue watching. Why do I have this problem? Is it because I'm lacking some codecs or is the avi files like that? I'm quite perplexed because I've never had this problem with any other video file, this only happens with all the Iguana eps

I don't think it's because of the video files, doinkies thinks it's because the subtitles are in .sub format and a lot of newer players can't really handle that...MPC can (that's the player doinkies uses), but that still happens in MPC sometimes. It doesn't really happen a lot, though, but if it bothers you, maybe make the subs into .srt files?

The subs work perfectly fine for me. I appreciate all the work you put into this, awrittensin. I am enjoying this show immensely (I don't know if "enjoy" is the right word since I'm crying my eyes out feeling sorry for poor Rika-chan). Anyway, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. :)

Man, the previews for episode 8 left me going, "OMG, no!"

1. Unless you know the secret handshake, you'll have to wait like everyone else. Read the site rules, FAQ's, etc. in the meantime.

2. See number 1.

No kidding. Be patient. I just finished episode 7 like 3 days ago, damn!

I had someone PM me asking if I knew where they could download raws for the rest of Iguana because they had downloaded the first 7. I told them if they downloaded my raws then they obviously already knew where to get raws for the rest of the series and for them to be patient.

They PMed me back and said "I hate being patient." :blink

I don't know about some people these days.... :alcoholic:

I usually would respond with a question regarding how far up their @ss one would have to dig to find some semblance of a working brain cell. But that's just me...

Some people don't understand the most basic things about fansubbing, nor do they care.

I wouldn't answer the first PM to begin with, but I guess aNToK's approach would work to... :-)

Thanks for ep7 awrittensin...

Well, the answer to this would definitely be a spoiler.

The last four episodes get a little crazy / confusing of this series, and I also didn't want anyone to try to put spoilers in these threads, so I've created a Discussion thread over in Jdrama discussions for Iguana if any of you all would like to head over there!
