Aruganon no Hanataba wo [Jp+Eng Subs] (Complete)

Postby debye » Fri Jan 13, 2006 5:25 am

Aruganon ni Hanataba wo

(November 24, 2006) I've improved the organization of this entry a bit, to make the subtitles easier to download. Subtitles are in proper numerical order, now, and I've eliminated the version number from their names, so they don't have to be renamed before use. I've omitted the Japanese (romaji) versions; send me a message if you want those. The files' content is the same as back in March -- some episodes are pretty good, some pretty rough. Comments, as always, are welcome.

Well well, someone actually read my thread. ;)

If I get a chance this weekend, I'll take a look at what's there and clean it up/translate some.

Here's the rough Japanese subtitles for Aruganon, episode 1, as promised in my previous post.

(Removed Mar. 22, replaced by improved version.)

debye, why not run the parts of the Japanese script that you don't know through a Japanese to English translator like babelfish?

I don't know what debye thinks bu I knowt a Japanese to English system like Babelfish is incredibly inaccurate and content that's put through it comes out as garbled junk. You'd be better off asking 1st year College or High School students to do the translation over babelfish.

Hi, Akiramike. The weak link in subtitling, for me, is getting from spoken to written Japanese. Babelfish, or any one of a number of useful translation aids like Google Translator or my big green Kenkyusha dictionary, require written Japanese to work. Presumably there are Japanese voice transcription programs, but I don't own one, and I have doubts how well they'd work in the presence of music and sound effects.
Shouta- I agree, what's needed here is nice friendly humans to help me fix the Japanese or English transcriptions.

Incidently, I'm from the US, and I''ve been studying Japanese for about six years.

OK, I'll reseed Algernon, episode 1. The bandwidth won't be impressive, so please help me out by keeping it around for a while.

Hi, all--
I'm about halfway through subtitling Aruganon episode 2 now. (I'm stilll on the speech by Haru's mother -- what a piece of work she is!) I still haven't heard any feedback on epsiode 1, though, so I haven't yet been able to make improvements to that. Any comments, especially on the Japanese text of episode 1, would be very welcome.

No, version numbers like 14 and 10 don't mean I've revised it that many times. I work on these files in little bits of time, saving a new version every time I quit. So version 1 might be 5% done, version 2, 8%, and so on. After I've finished all the text, I do one more pass to check for simple errors and see if I now somehow understand the missing bits (yeah, right).

Just a quick question.

What happened to episode 3? When i typed in the name of the series in the search, 1-2, 4-11 showed up.

Ep 3 is misspelled, search for "hanataba" and you will find them all...

Thanks for the subs - sadly I'm just about giving up trying to download the raws of this series - I see a long queue of people like myself stuck at 94.7% of episode 2 for days and days and days while the torrent stats say there are 2 seeders at 100%. Sure I know this is not the place to request someone unclick the stop or pause button on their bittorrent client.

Just want to say thanks to debye for your great effort. :salut: At least I got to enjoy episode 1.

Oh hello debye. Sorry I sounded a bit stroppy just now, but you know, I don't think it's fair that after having worked so hard subtitling the drama, you end up worrying about the distribution of raw episodes.

I realy hope someone who has downloaded a copy of it would voluntarily share it with us... :whistling:

No problem. I've got nine people downloading episode 2 now, seven of them over 95% done. There should be a reasonable number of seeds in a few hours.

Since there are eight seeds for Episode 2 now (thanks!), I'm going to stop that one and reseed Episode 3 for a while. I'm about a third of the way through the subtitles for that one.

I'm glad you like the Japanese subs. The idea was to give people a base for their own translations, but I agree they're fun to read along with as is.

By the way, does anybody know where the story is set? I'm having a tough time understanding either Haru's boss or Erina's boyfriend, presumably because they're speaking something other than Tokyo-standard Japanese (and they may be different from each other). If I knew what their style of speech was called, I might be able to look in some specialized dictionary.

Anyone else having the problem?

I want to thank you, debye for your subs. Thank you for doing both the Japanese and English translations! I was so excited to see them. Your subtitles will really help me to study Japanese.

It is really hard to hear and understand Japanese while watching a drama because they speak so fast and slur alot of words, so what you are doing is FANTASTIC!!!

I just had to tell you how much I appreciate your work.

THANK YOU!

Big new, folks. I'm a quarter-way through Episode 5 and I now know where Haru and his mom live. (He's smart enough now to search his own medical records, which contain their addresses.)

(Drum roll, please.)

Haru lives in Mishima, a city of about 110,000 at the north end of the Izu peninsula

His mom lives in Toi, a tourist town of 6300 on the west coast of Izu. Since it's about 20 miles from Mishima, neither Haru nor Erina are likely to be visiting Mom on foot.

Mishima and Toi are in Shizuoka province, which, according to Wikipedia, means the local accent is similar to that of Nagano or Yamanashi. This actually doesn't help me much in deciphering their speech, but at least I feel like I'm on the trail.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

The subs are really good. Nice and clear. On some non translations, I have attempted to figure them out also along with my wife (who is Japanese) and it is even hard for her to understand what they are saying also. But all in all, up to and including ep4 the subs are very easy to follow though.

WOW! I had the first episode for a while now but I didn't think the subs were out then, but I just let it on my pc. I almost deleted it, but then I found the subs and gave it a shot. I had no clue what it was about and OMG...this drama is so great so far. I love how creative the Japanese are with their entertainment.

Thank you for subbing!!!

Also, is there a clubbox for this drama??

I'm currently downloading it rightnow....slow as hell...only 1 seed and 2 leechers. I don't care..i'll see how it goes and I will definitely seed this show.

This is the first show that I really cared to seed. I think your translations and subbing are generally good, I get the whole picture. Some subs tend to be only Japanese romanized..but it's all good. If you keep the way you're going now, I have no complaints, only appreication. THanks again

At anything over 10 cents an hour, you couldn't possibly afford it.
