Pics of China
Hi all,
Kinda bored right now and missing the Bay Area tremendously. Thought I'd share a few pictures of where I'm stuck at for the year. China is an amazing place. Beijing also has an amazing smell and traffic problem, lol. I'm sure a lot of you have traveled to China, so nothing new. If any of you are heading to Beijing this year, hit me up . Sorry for the quality, using a point and shoot Canon SD400 w/ no photoshop.
2008 Olympic countdown at Tian'anmen Square (I feel sorry for the athletes, this air is rank):
I like this guy's tricycle:
Dude, thats smog!:
Beijing = Bicycle:
What's that God awful smell!?:
Shoes for 50cents in here:
They have the nicest cars in China:
Have to climb the Great Wall to reach some clean air:
Inner Mongolia (part of China:mrgreen:):
Bargaining for 5cents:
Tastes a lot worse than it looks (at least to me):
Would be cool to see pics of the area/people of other members living outside the U.S.

China is China, but Shanghai is more modernized. If you like to go out clubbing, I would also definately say Shanghai over Beijing. Lots of places to drink and dance in Beijing, but non really compare on an international level. I also wanted to go to Shanghai, but Beijing U. is a well known school and their program is pretty good.
If you'd like any more info about studying abroad in China, feel free to ask me

I saw some programs that universities in Shanghai offer(don't know which ones anymore, will have to look that up), they seem pretty interesting... Btw, I'm talking about taking Chinese courses only...
I'm not all for the clubbing, but the fact that Shanghai is more modern than Beijing makes me wanna go there... But I haven't made any final decision yet... So if anyone has any recommendations or advise, I'm all ears...

You used to live in Beiijng? Interesting...hehehe. Chaoyang is more fun than where I am at (Haidan). I am living at Peking University, studying Mandarin for the year. Hot-pot is good once in a while, but that hot-pot in the pic is full of rank chicken necks, old tofu, and smelly lamb. Inner Mongolia is fun to go see, but I wouldn't want to stay for any length of time, hahaha.
Why are you coming back to Beijing at the end of year?

Haha.. you don't like chicken necks?? Stuff is good.Weep wrote:You used to live in Beiijng? Interesting...hehehe. Chaoyang is more fun than where I am at (Haidan). Well I'm actually going to Shijiuazhuang (heard of it?) to get my Chinese passport renewed, but I'll be going to Shanghai and Beijing along the way to visit my friends and my dad.Weep wrote:You used to live in Beiijng? Whoa... you mean THE Peking University?
I've been to Inner Mongolia like four times with my dad and his 4x4 club, fun fun. The horseriding is cool!
Haha... you guys should've done some hip/thigh abductions before riding that longsadotsu wrote:Wow. They let foreigners in there?
Lol it used to be my life's dream to get in there. When I was about nine.
Hahaha I like the last pic... such typical Chinese dress. After the 4th time I went horseriding, my thighs went all numb for the rest of the day o_O.
The camels don't look all that bad either in the picture. I've always thought of them as "much worse than horses."
Yeah... I learnt my lesson after not being able to sit down for the whole day.crossvii wrote: Haha... you guys should've done some hip/thigh abductions before riding that long

^Those are some beautiful pictures you took. Which province/town in China was that picture of the ducks catching fish picture taken in? The scenes are just lovely.
I'm planning a trip to visit my parents' hometown of Taishan, GuangZhou next January/February for a 3-4 months trip...but I'll be touring other parts of China as well. The Liu San Jie & Red Flute Cave look very interesting, might want to add them to the list of places I'd like to visit. Were they from your Beijing or Guilin pictures?
The hardest part of visiting China is choosing the places to visit since it's such a big country. I know I won't be able to see all different parts of it, but so far I have Beijing, Wuhan, Tibet, GuangZhou, ShangHai, Yunnan, and Yangshou down on my list of "must go places".
,,,,,,and then there's Shenzhen & Hong Kong for shopping, but that'll be part of GuangZhou experience since the distance between the three are only a few hours apart.

Those are some really nice pics!!!
I actually just came back from studying abroad in Shanghai this past winter. It was one of the best experiences of my life. There were only a few things that bothered me (chain smoking(wow absolutely terrible, it was almost impossible to find a restaurant that didn't have a group of smokers. ) Other than that and some others, I enjoyed it muchly! There are a lot of great clubs - Bon Bon being one of my favs! And of course you can't beat cheap food! I must have had bubble tea like everyday since it was only 2.5 kuai (equivalent to 30 cents in the US) for one near my university.
I would totally recommend studying abroad in China! It's even better if you go with a friend or two. I knew quite a few people prior to the trip so it was like vacationing with friends. Ever so often when I'm looking back at pics, I miss Shanghai like crazy!

I was also in China for about 4 months, came back in January. I was in Northern China, Changchun in Jilin Province, loved it! So close to Mongolia, but didn't get to go . But I went to Shenyang and Harbin.
This was a shrine outside of the Last Emperor's palace in Changchun
Catholic Church in Shenyang
At the Palace in Shenyang, really stunning!
Ice buildings at the Ice Festival in Harbin
At the Tiger park in Harbin, I took this picture from inside the bus, they are right outside it.
