Cast: Suda Masaki, Hongo Kanata, Mamiya Shotaro, Izumisawa Yuki, Morikawa Aoi, Nishida Naomi, Endo Kenichi.

Synopsis: In 1965, Sano Masashi, who was expected to be a violin prodigy, carried the hopes of his parents and came up to Tokyo from Nagasaki on his own during junior high school. Now a second year high school student, he practices the violin daily with the aim of becoming a top violinist. However, he could not qualify for the music school of his choice and had to enroll in a high school with a general curriculum. Masashi started to have misgivings about his own goal ever since he failed the entrance examination. npon-tabetaka/]jdramas[/url])

Drama notes below:
Episode 1:
If you want to know more about zoukin and why Masashi found it troublesome to get one, read it here: https://furugistarjapan.wordpress.com/2 ... e-cleaner/

Episode 2:
If you want to know about the image of Mooretsu Musume the big brother talking about on hoping he get a wife like one of them, try google image モーレツ娘 and see the result yourself XD

Read more about their street fair called Ennichi (縁日) in here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ennichi

Episode 3:
Takamiyama Daigoro is a former sumo wrestler, the first foreign born rikishi to win the top division championship (in 1972). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takamiyama_Daigor%C5%8D

Episode 4:
From this part on, I found out that "Chanpon Tabetaka" can be translated in a few different meaning depending on the situation so... don't worry if you heard chanpon tabetaka over and over with a different translation on the subtitle XD I fully realize that but decided to use the most proper one according to the situation on scene.

Episode 5:
The student union mentioned in this episode is the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zengakuren and their demo which I didn't translate since the jpsub itself doesn't have the caption (might be because this is actually happened) mainly about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of ... _and_Japan and how they want to demolish the US imperialism.

For the Yasuda Auditorium case that Yu-chan from Koe Koi the university student Oda talking about, I read more information in here: http://www.japantimes.co.jp/opinion/200 ... GyxyFV97IU and it pretty much about a huge incident between student union and the military with lots of casualty.

I picked the term "educated idler" from subie06 subs of Date lol since when I heard 高等遊民 (kōtō yūmin) that drama is the first thing appeared in my head. As I'm not a native English speaker, I honestly don't know what word can translate this kōtō yūmin and so I just use the educated idler like in subie06 subs.

Episode 6:
That female violinist is based on real person, her name is Sato Yoko. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not that her name is Yoko just like Morikawa Aoi's character name :D but it's sweet that another "Yoko" became his turning point. I can't find her biography in English but she is listed as female violinist in this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_female_violinists

The song played in their graduation is Aogeba Toutoshi (not the drama, one lol) and the translation I use is taken from https://redfreesias03.tumblr.com/post/1 ... -gratitude

Episode 7:
Kakkontō: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakkonto

Episode 8 and 9:
When Masashi got beaten by some guys, he literary said something like "you can borrow my time but make sure you give it back to me" which implicitly means that he wants to redo everything in his life all over again.

Hotaru-chaya (蛍茶屋), Narutaki (鳴滝), Naka river (中川), Kawabata (川端), Shianbashi (思案橋), Meganebashi (眼鏡橋), Teramachi (寺町), Nakadori (中通り), Nigiwaibashi (賑橋), all of these are places in Nagasaki, Masashi's hometown. You can google image the kanjis to see what it look like since some of them aren't listed in English pages.

Ajisai flowers are Hydrangea (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrangea) and in Japanese flower language it symbolize pride.

Nadeshiko flowers are Dianthus superbus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dianthus_superbus) or pink carnation. It also related to personification of Japanese ideal woman, Yamato Nadeshiko (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamato_nadeshiko)

Fuyo flowers are Hibiscus Mutabilis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibiscus_mutabilis)

SPOILER AHEAD
In episode 8, Furuta use inakunatta (いなくなった) for Kashiyama and I'm not really sure how to translate this since it can be used in two different situation. Inakunatta often used as "no longer here" which means Kashiyama is... dead. But it can also means that he "disappear" in terms of missing or left without notice. I leave it as "gone" and you can consider it an open ending for Kashiyama's character.

Tbh, I'd like to think that he's just gone missing somewhere, that he'll be back in the end of episode 9, looking all happy like always and said "Hey, I own a ranch in Hokkaido now! I have 100 sheep!" or something. That's the reason I postponed episode 8 sub release to make sure of this by looking through episode 9 but... nothing. Also, looking at how different Masashi reacted to "Furuta gone missing" in episode 9, we can say maybe... just maybe, he's really dead? Well at the same time, we don't get a glimpse of funeral, tombstone or even a picture of his. Let's just keep it open as "gone" then, shall we? T_T

If you are wondering what happens to them after the performance, it is actually coming from a real person. Sano Masashi's real name is Sada Masashi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masashi_Sada) he was in a duo called Grape (グレープ) with someone name Yoshida Masami; which in my opinion is Furuta in real life. They broke up in 1976, after producing some hit singles together. You can look at their real life performance in here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En36sKixdt4

Translator's Note:
If you are part of my kataomoinoaji livejournal community, this is the exact same subtitle file I posted there a few months ago, nothing changed. I just decided to put it here in d-addicts as part of my decision to make my subs available for all again. I don't think I can have time to sub or to keep the community active (as for the reason, you can read in there lol) so maybe it's better to make the drama subs available for all just in case I can't accepting members again~

What a pleasant surprise!
I thought this was one of those dramas that will never get subbed.

Thank you very much.

thanks a lot  , just sent them a request to follow let's hope they'll approve.

I have trouble with seeding in avistaz, although my ports are all open and I've tried all I can to fix it but for whatever reason I can't seed the files I download for them. sadly I stopped downloading anything from there since I don't want to get banned.
