Tiger & Dragon (jdrama) [Eng Subs] (Complete)

Postby sarcasstik » Thu Apr 21, 2005 4:09 am

To be completely honest, I'm not entirely sure who is working on this project anymore. A lot of people have contributed (which is a good thing IMO), so I apologize if I didn't give someone proper recognition. You can PM me if that is the case, and I can update this first post.

Glad you all are enjoying it. Gives me motivation :P Can't make any promises (finals and all coming up), but the translator seems pretty dedicated, so that always helps.

All i know is that its yakuza related and it barely aired in japan (1st episode released here at d-addicts by junkboy last week).

A movie came out first.

Synopsis for the MOVIE:
Credits: yesasia.com
Tokio's Nagase Tomoya and Okada Jun-ichi from V6 star in this special 90 minute long J-TV drama that quickly became the talk of the town and hence was turned into a full length TV series that will be broadcast from April 2005 onwards. Kudo Kankuro who also wrote the scripts for the blockbuster TV dramas Ikebukuro West Gate Park and Kisarazu Cats Eye that featured Nagase Tomoya and Okada Jun-ichi, respectively, provided the script for this stunning treat. The tale of Tiger & Dragon revolves around Rakugo, a traditional form of Japanese comedy that can look back on an impressive 400 year long history. Nagase portrays the Yakuza follower Toraji who goes to a Rakugo performer to collect debts, while Okada plays Ryuji a talented Rakugo player who wants to leave behind the old fashioned world of Rakugo for good. Shortly afterwards these two very different characters happen to cross paths through a girl named Megumi and that's when all the real trouble starts igniting …

Now the drama series. (there's a special too i think).

Whoa - the amount of subs in the first minute alone is outrageous! :w00t: And the translations are really well done. Good job timing too, must have been hard for your first attempt, everyone speaks so quickly.

Thank you, thank you, this series looks really funny!

sarcasstalk, thanks for the awesome subs :-) :D
One comment: I think you might want to rename the file to match the video name.

So, the subtitle should be Tiger & Dragon RAW - ep01 (704x396).srt

Other than that, keep up the fantastic work

I have a question though, are there two versions of tiger and dragon? Mine has commercials so the timing is a bit off, but since everyone else is happy, it must be on my side -_-'

Thank you so much for the subs!

With the help of subtitles (thanks again!! :D), ep 2 is even funnier than the first one in my opinion,
Kudou tied three seemingly separate incidents together with one rakugo story.
I am amazed!

THANK YOU guys soooooooo much!!!!! you guys have really made everyone, especially me, happy and the subs are SAIKOU!! :notworthy: It's almost like we can't thank you enough :) Finally I can understand this :)

I don't mean to be rude or demanding, I'm just asking for plain curiousity, I hope you don't get offended by my asking, but do you guys have any plans of subbing the special? I was just curious, I just want to know if you do or you don't have plans, since the special is also here, but I just really want to know, I'm not demanding or anything (hehe I'm afraid someone might say that I'm demanding or something since it's already great that you guys subbed the first two episodes :D)

Don't worry about offending anyone at all! :-) We originally didn't have any plans to sub the T&D special mainly because of its length, but since you asked so nicely....haha
We're now thinking about working on it over summer break. Just keep in mind that we're poor college students with finals coming up so hopefully we'll be able to finish the special by the time the series ends. Keep a lookout for more updates about it!

I'm really glad you're enjoying the series with the subs. There's a lot of dialogue so it might be hard to keep up with, but I personally feel that T&D gets better with every watch (like all of KudoKan's dramas)! Trust me, I've watched the first episode like 10 times already just while translating it but it never gets old!! :lol

Thanks a lot for the time you are sharing for our entertainment ! :D :D :D BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO

I was wondering something, since there is a lot of long dialogue ion this drama I "pause" it often. Doing so, after a few seconds the subs disapear. So, if I edit the sub files and stretch the time for each dialogue (without overlaying the next one) will it works? Is it editable in word pad?

Anyway, ths again, I really appreciate your work! :D :D :D

I try my best to keep the subs up as long as possible without overlap (or you'll have about 4 lines of text covering half the screen), but the dialogue is particularly fast in this one. If you can manage to fix it though, feel free to edit it however you wish. I use Subtitle Workshop, but I think you can edit the files in notepad or Wordpad...

Yeah I've got the same problem cause I'm not native English and subs are too fast for me. Just use Subtitle Workshop. Open the file and press CTRL+L. Select "Set Minimum Duration" only and set it to 4000 (should be enought). Then Apply and save the file.
Since sayapapaya & sarcasstik were kind enought to do the job don't worry about the rest; everything it's possible ^^

The translator seems up for it, so we'll probably end up releasing it after the series is complete... Although I don't think you need to watch the special to understand what's going on in the series.

among characters if started with Ep 01.

Thanx once again for going on... This series is impossible for me to watch without subs... too fast, too complicated.
By the way you will need to start zipping your subs into one from the next episode since you will get an error message if you try uploading more than 3 attachments to your first post. You can either zip all the subs into one or make a second post at the end and add the coming subs; something not suggested.
Acutally you could make a .zip for the 3 episodes and the 4th as a second attachment, then add it to the zip and add the 5th as a second attachment etc... so people won't have to download the .zip with everything, everytime. But it doesn't make any difference at least to me. Keep them coming whatever the way :D

i know this doesn't belong here, but i was just wondering, i wanna burn this series on DVD for personal viewing, was just wondering if i wanna group them together, how many eps at most can i fit in one DVD? and how do I convert the SRT files into subs that could be turned on/off on the DVD?

thanks for any help :) and sorry about how OT the DVD thing is, at least I still asked about the subs :D

doom9.net is a good source for virtually all these kind of questions, they even have a divx to DVD tutoria. Not sure if it mentions subs, but if not, you should be able to get help on the forum there.

wow, what a unique drama. huge thanks to sayapapaya and sarcasstic! i had no idea it would be so interesting, and im very grateful for your dedication to sub this series. when i first heard of this series, i thought it would be very old school and dull, but i was shocked at how wrong i was. the dialogue is extremely fast (which makes this show so lively and at the same time difficult to follow) so the subs are really a big help

Without English sub, I don't think I'll be able to understand a word of it. They talk so fast, my Japanese is limited. Thank you so much for subbing this :)

a DVD-R has approximately 4.3 GB of memory...so if you burn as a data dvd...then u can do the math...if ur gonna turn it into video...works off of time...so again...do the math...depending on the setting you use for the video...i think the time can range from 2 HRS to 6 HRS or somethin....the doom site that was mentioned should tell you the length that is available depending on the recording setting...another site you could check is dvd-digest.com...i think they have a few tutorials there...

You got it all wrong...these files are for subtitles (which is why you in this thread right?), which you view on your media player. Before you ask how to do that, read the FAQ first because it tells you everything you need to know (and this includes how to use bittorrent).

dear sarcastic and sayapapaya
——appreciate the presious work you did so much!!!
i love this drama as well. For i'm a chinese girl, normally i downloaded and watched the drama in chinese sub. But unexpectedly, only the special, 1st and 2nd episode in chinese sub are now available, nobody seems like wanna translate the rest on.
i had been very disappointed, for the drama is so funny and meaningful,~~til i met you guys' work, which are so amazing!!

i'm very excited now, and i wonder if i could translate the drama into chinese, partly rely on your work.~~~'cause i'm only one person, no cooperater, and i'm quite not familar with the timer. besides, my japanese level is limited, esp. the part of rakugou, i think i really need your help~~~
as tiger and dragon is such a bravo show, it deserved to be introduced to more people, isn't it.
looking forward to your admission.
もしだめ、も大丈夫! thank you all the same, for i have been already benifited so much from you. ^_^
ありがとうございました!

I finished watching the three episodes that you have translated and I must say that it was great! The series is so much fun to watch and really is addicting. I like how they intertwine both the rakugo stories to what happens to the characters on the show. I've seen some of Ikebukuro West Gate Park and Kisarazu Cat's Eye, but I think that this series has become my favorite by that director.

Also . . in the beginning of the season I had looked forward to "Engine" the most because it was another Kimura Takuya drama with lead actress Koyuki .. but as I'm watching the both of them, I find that I like "Tiger and Dragon" so much more. It's fresh and the acting is great. Thank you for translating it! It would be impossible for the majority of us to watch it if not for you guys. Thanks again, sayapapaya, sarcasstik, junkboy, and massaru!
