You can make the subtitles sync to the DoA version by delaying the subtitles by 60000ms.
Thanks a lot for the translation!

Edit:
I've attached the subs for the DoA version, I hope you don't mind. The only thing I've changed is shifting the times 1min forward. The first minute is also kinda interesting and it includes the infamous brown jacket :P, so you may want to watch it too.

Thanks a lot for the super fast sub. I just have one request, it would be better if `Kenji` suffix is left out as it confuses when reading subtitles, especially those longer ones.

Thanks for the constructive criticism! Can you suggest anything that you think would go better in the place of the Kenji suffix? Mr. or Mrs. will not work because that just feels unnatural to me and usually the Kenji suffix is only attached by Jimukans and fellow prosecutors - I think there's some form of respect involved. For example there's a scene where Tamura gets the case pushed on him and says:

"Bad luck Baba-Kenji!"

If this was changed to just:

"Bad luck Baba"

It would(from my perspective as an English native) make it sound like that he's being disrespectful(even though he is, but impliedly - not directly).

If anyone else can think of anything they'd like better tell me, suggestions are welcome. I could even shorten the Kenji suffix or something if length is an issue.

I think you pretty much have no choice with this particular show. Maybe you can add a note at some point like:

Code: Select all

Note: Read -kenji as "Mr. Prosecutor"

And continue to use it like you'd use -san.
(In lower case so it doesn't look like part of a name.)

Thinking again, it looks a no escape case. As MisterJordau noted, -san or Mr. and Ms. sounds unnatural. Maybe it can do to just mention it in the thread. I am also of the opinion of making it in lower case '-kenji'.

May I give suggestion?

How about address them as "Prosecutor Kuryu" or "Prosecutor Baba"? without -san? Because when I watched the first season, the translator only translated it into "Prosecutor", so it's feels more formal and polite. At the first season, I always see they address each other ( I mean, the partner) such like "Prosecutor Kuryu" or "Paralegal Amamiya". From I know, "kenji" meaning itself is police officer, right? But I don't know specifically, so I know the word "Prosecutor" from watching the first season,SP, and movies.

I prefer the original japanese suffixes. :) I think "Name-kenji" is the best way to translate it. Just "Name" leaves out the fact, that Japanese do use special titles according to the job someone has. Using "Prosecutor Name" alle the time sounds really clunky to me, because I think in most western countries, the "prosecutor" title would simply be dopped...or used solely, like in "Mr. Prosecutor".

Long story short, I think it's fine the way it is.

"Kenji" means prosecutor, while "Keiji" means police detective. :D That small difference is often played with in the first season.
