Soko wo Nantoka [Eng Subs] (Complete)

Postby Murai82 » Sun May 04, 2014 10:07 am

Lost & found subs is proud to present you their first project:

Soko Wo Nantoka

Image

Rakuko Kaise (Yuika Motokariya) grew up in a poor family and decided to become a lawyer to make money. She supported herself through law school by working in a bar. After finally passing her bar exam, Rakuko Kaise lands a job with a small law office. She then grows into a real lawyer through working on cases which can't make her much money.

A few words about our group, Lost & found subs. This group was established with the intention of bringing to you lost dramas that no fansub group ever thought about subbing before. These hidden gems cried for help, and we couldn't help but translate them.
Unfortunately we can only sub dramas with Japanese subs, we don't have the needed knowledge to translate by ear yet.
Both of us do this for fun, so suggestions and constructive criticism are always welcome, but we reserve the right to ignore them if they're not respectful.
Please don't use these subs for sale, rent or any other purposes except enjoying them for your pure entertainment.
We already have another project in mind as soon as we finish this, so stay tuned.

The staff is composed by:
Translation, timing, typesetting: Murai82
Editing, english proofreading, QC: Watanuki

Thanks to Akiramike for his timed japanese subs.

Notes
- subs are .ass The font used is Calibri which should be installed by default on mac and windows os, but if you don't have it installed download it from here. The proper font is necessary to properly view the subs as we intended
- vlc is a good choice to display the subs correctly.
- Here's a link to the raws used: http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_127420.htm

ep.1 notes
- ep.1 is focused around article 13 of the Japanese constitution. You can find it here among the other articles:
http://japan.kantei.go.jp/constitution_ ... ion_e.html
ep.2 notes
- ep.2 is focused around DUI and hit and run laws. Hit and run is a serious offence in Japan that can be punished with up to ten years imprisonment or up to 1,000,000 yen fine.
ep.3 notes
- ep.3 is focused around family register and immigration laws in Japan. Being not in anyone family's register makes it really hard to live in Japan. If you want to know more about it you can read this article http://mettahu.blogspot.it/2014/01/memo ... ister.html or look for koseki/family register in google.
- the song that Angelica Tabata is singing acappella to her child is Amazing Grace
ep.5 notes
- 2:22: the narrator uses the expression Tama no koshi which is short for the phrase tama no koshi ni noru (玉の輿に乗る、to marry a wealthy man).
The old term tama also meant gemstone or a thing of beauty and it is that connotation that is being used here.
Koshi ni noru means to ride in a palanquin (a covered litter for one passenger).
These can often been seen in the samurai dramas where someone of importance is being carried in a koshi.
Thus, the phrase literally means “to ride in a beautiful palanquin.”
(credits to http://www.stippy.com/japan-language/ja ... gyakutama/)
- 35:53: Daddy Long-Legs is a 1912 epistolary novel by the American writer Jean Webster. It follows the protagonist, a young girl named Jerusha "Judy" Abbott, through her college years. She writes the letters to her benefactor, a rich man whom she has never seen.
- 37:06: Meimei says a chinese proverb which was translated in japanese as 棚から牡丹餅: this expression is read as tanakara botamochi which means receiving a windfall, an unexpected piece of luck.
- 41:08: yubikiri song - the promise song you hear a lot in dramas when making promises with friends. Friends lock little fingers (pinkies) together and sing... well, you already know, but watch the episode to refresh your memory ;)
ep.6 notes
- - 1:02- touban bengoshi: Bar associations have their lawyers take turns counseling arrested suspects. The lawyer currently on duty is the tooban bengoshi.
If the suspect ends up in court, and he/she can't afford a lawyer, the tooban bengoshi often becomes the state-appointed defense, or kokusen bengonin.
http://www.science-bbs.com/115-lang-jap ... 840981.htm
ep.7 notes
- Man Friday: Friday is one of the main characters of Daniel Defoe's 1719 novel Robinson Crusoe. Robinson Crusoe names the man, with whom he cannot at first communicate, Friday because they first meet on that day. The character is the source of the expression "Man Friday", used to describe a male personal assistant or servant, especially one who is particularly competent or loyal. (credits to wikipedia)
ep.8 notes
arafifu: a term invented by Yuki Amami, indicates a woman who exceeded 40 years old in age
Enjoy!

I was really happy when I found out you were subbing this. I watched it in the first place because I really like Ichikawa Ennosuke's acting. At that time I didn't know Yuika, but I liked her immediately, she is funny and endearing, and then I ended up liking the drama as a whole. I watched it once and I was able to catch more or less the general idea, now I'm so grateful with you because It's totally awesome to watch it again and to be able to understand everything :D

I know it's quite early, but it would be great if you were able to translate the sequel that is going to start soon as well, but of course, no pressure ;)

And thank you very much for episode 4!

Ok, ep.5 done! Sorry for the delay but holidays got in the way.
Ep.6 is in the editing stages too, so it shouldn't be too long before we release it.

Thanks a lot for your message. We liked soko wo nantoka immediately because it's funny and the episodes often ends with a great twist. And of course I love Yuika, her smile is so refreshing. ;)
About season 2, we're thinking about it, but we want to finish season 1 first. To tell you the truth we already picked up another project after this long before season 2 was announced, but now we're unsure about what to do.
Anyway, thanks for watching. Dhisashi too, we have every intention of finishing this! ;)

Thank you so much for Episode 5!!!!!!

You really are doing an awesome job!

It's all right if you already had plans for another subbing before the second part of SwN. It wouldn't be fair for those who could be waiting for the other project you already picked :-)

Besides, this is just my personal opinion, but I haven't really liked what I've seen of season 2 anyway. Ennosuke, who is my favorite, barely appears; they have a new character that I don't like at all and that has way too much screentime; the cases they work at are not that interesting and although Yuika remains charming, there's something off with the general vibe of the series.
I don't know, as I've said, just my personal opinion :P

But that's off-topic. Thing is, first season is great and you are even greater for helping us to watch it properly with your subbing work.

Thanks again!

Ep. 6 ready for your viewing pleasure.
A great chikan-molester case with the usual twist, and finally we'll know the truth about why Shouji sensei left Okuyama Jonouchi's law firm years ago.
We're rushing on this, ep.7 and 8 are almost ready for the editing stage and we started on the last episode.
Rrocky, a decision on season 2 is currently pending. We're thinking about it and everyone on this topic will be the first to know if we decide on subbing it. Stay tuned. :salut:

Thanks for episodes 1-6. Good drama, nice relief from the usual teenager / idol. Excellent subs, captures the nuances well. This is a gem. Hope there is a season 2 and hope that you will decide to sub it. Much appreciated!

I just started with this drama and I already finished the first five episodes. It really suits my taste and it'S great to see the actress from Detarame Hero again!

So, thank you very much for subbing this. :)

I hope it's ok to ask: Do you plan on subbing the second season? I'm sure, furransu will start uploading the missing episodes if you do.
