The wedding planner (Hada), becomes smitten with Mr. Yamaguchi when he begins to meet her often for conversations, and she eventually seduces him into bed, creating a rift in the middle-aged couple. They will have to fight for their love to be accepted by his parents...

no need to thank me. you did most of the work with all the ripping of the raws and hardsubs XD

i was just there fixing the subs. without u we wouldnt even have this show available for us fans.

also i apologize for not having the 2nd episode up. after i did episode 1 yesterday i got tired from rewatching the 1st episode around 3 times just trying to fix stuff so decided to take a day break before starting on 2nd episode. XD

thanks again.
if only my area sells old jdramas. >.<
all the chinese video stores here that do sell only have chinese subs plus only the new dramas. hard to find oldies such as fuufu or any other show from 10+ years ago.

hi everyone! episode 4 is up. sry if it was late!

also a note on the sub. at around the 37 minute mark when machiko asks him what was the last movie he saw, yamaguchi says kurosawa. but the hardsub with eng subs didnt have that part and i do not understand japanese very well so i couldnt translate the 3 lines he says.
if anyone can translate it here, then i can add it onto the subs.
thanks!

Hi everybody!
'superdevilgundam' thank you very much for your hard work, I really appreciate it m(_ _)m

To your question (sorry, I am not a native speaker of Japanese nor English) - in mentioned moment I can hear this conversation:

Yamaguchi says: "Tora-san"
Machida: "uso, itsu desuka sore?"
Yamaguchi: "ya, Tora san desu yo, ichiban saikin mita, honto ni, ..."

1/ "Tora-san"
Note: this is familiar title of old super-classic movie series "Otoko-wa tsurai yo..." mostly by director Yamada (main character is called Tora /see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otoko_wa_Tsurai_yo), so he doesn't said "Kurosawa"
2/ she replies: "No way! when did you see that?"
3/ he: "yeah, it was certainly Tora-san, the most recent (movie) I have seen, really..."

That's my primitive translation (^_^;)

BTW, there are some other little parts of conversation omitted ...

For example, I noticed in the episode 3, around the 31:30, scene where Yamaguchi meets Machida in restaurant and they eat 'yakiniku' (grilled meat), Yamaguchi murmured this:

"... Aa, kono yakiniku - yakinikui, naa ... Omoshiroku nai desuka? ..."

=something like this: "...This yakiniku is hard to roast, isn't it ..... Is not that funny?..."

This is nice example of so-called 'oyaji gyagu' (old man’s gag), joke based on play on words (the same sound but different meaning), see e.g.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dajare

Oh ya, I am really sorry, that my Japanese/English language ability is rather low _| ̄|○

Well, It is as I feared (^_^) ... again "oyaji gyagu" (in both last mentioned episodes).
In the ep.5, Mr.Yamaguchi makes some pun on the name of dancer Tetsuya... Unfortunately, still I am not able to translate it properly, so for now I can tell you only, that Ms. Machida replies (she is glad that he makes the jokes as usually again):
"Yokatta! Itsumono Yamaguchi-rashiku natte..."
="Goood! You became that usual Yamaguchi again"

Ep.6, the sentence "fun conversation..." is followed by another play on words:
"soo da naa" (this sentence means something like " let me see" or "well"..., as if you're thinking)
"eeto..." (this sound usually means also something like " let me see"...)
"ee to..."
"bii to..."
"shii to..." (in the last 3 lines he used similar sound of 'Japanese-English' for "A" (="ee"), so he continues "B" (="bii") and... "C" ("shii") and...)
Then Ms.Machida smiles and Mr.Yamaguchi says something like: "Look! You laugh! It makes you always so charming..."

...for the time being, that's all... I will try to edit it later

>>>to ep.7:
...these missing lines (after the sentence "Don't you already know it?") are just a part of the argument of both spouses.

Ms.Yamaguchi continues: "gohan tabetara..."
= She accuses her husband, that when he eats rice she cook for him, he never says how good it is.
But when he himself sprinkle over it some *furikake*, immediately smiles and says it is good!
He counters, that it was not intentional ...

(*furikake* is special Japanese dried food, something like a spice, for sprinkling over rice)

Well, I am not a translator, too. And I can somehow understand only the basic meaning. I am sorry.

Just wanted to add my thanks for these subs, as well as to J-zavislak for the missing dialogue (oyaji gyagu -- the bane of a translator's existence!). This is a lovely, classic dorama, made even better by your efforts (plus Avallac'h's for the rips and raws, of course!).

i will still have to do version 2s on those episodes that have missing translations. hence why i didnt put complete on the thread title XD

problem is for some of the things j-zavislak translated im not too sure how im going to implement all those puns into the subtitle since im not a translator and dont know the proper way these things are put. i'll have to figure it out later >.<

Just my two yen, but I don't think there is a proper way. If you take yakiniku, yakinikui, for example, it's impossible (to my poor brain anyway). Maybe, "barbecue, hard to do"? But does that go with the rest of dialogue? Of course you could also add a translator's note to explain, but that can get annoying. Plus, it seems to me that you've already done a lot for this series.
Sometimes, I think a subtitler just has to give the sense of what's going on and let more advanced listeners enjoy the inside joke. But again, there are a lot of opinions about that.

Gankooyaji! merci beaucoup!
And sorry for possible delay of my other attempts to translate missing lines in latest episodes - I became quite busy recently.

Yes, to make it into subtitles is probably impossible ... so why not just use some simple explanatory note "(making silly joke now / pun on words)", or something like this?

And of course, the big THANK YOU VERY MUCH to superdevilgundam.

Yes, that's a way I see a lot -- it doesn't detract from the story and it lets listeners know that they aren't missing anything. Good idea!

Thanks for finishing this project.

PS. The 4th subtitle file has the wrong extension.

...hisashiburi...
m(_ _)m ... I am very sorry for a long silence, I have some hard times now... I will add missing lines of subs next time (I hope).

Now only one tiny note, about a piece of music:
in the last episode, in the beginning Jun is trying to sing (shout) some song: "iyeeei, kimi wo suki de yokatta..."
-it is the song "Banzai" by great Japanese band ULFULS [Urufuruzu]

it was a memorable experince, spent 10 days there. very polite people, very good food, very beautiful scenery plus so much stuff i was tempted too buy from artbooks, photobooks, model kits, games, anime. unfortunately im not rich so i was just salivating XD
i was bumbling my way around since i dont speak or read japanese lol. i know very little gleaned from jdramas and anime lol. i rly wish im not lazy and learn japanese lol. its been 8 years since i said i would.
went to tsukiji fish market and lined up 3 hours for that famous sushi place called sushi dai (the sushi was so fresh it melts in your mouth), went to gundam museum in odaiba, osaka castle, kyoto imperial palace, that aquarium in osaka, temples, mandarake in akihabara. i spent too much my wallet is hurting >.<
oh ya, japanese high tech toilets ftw. plus so much green tea flavored foods yum <3 !!! was my first time eating wagyu beef and wow SO GOOD the meat melts in your mouth and is so soft and juicy. problem was its so expensive T.T
hotels are expensive so if u ever plan to go, use agoda.com and book MONTHS early for the cheap price. for example a double room for 1 night at grand pacific le daiba cost me $97 when i booked it in february (not including taxes and extra charges), then when i had extended my stay in japan for 3 days, i booked the room a week before in may and it cost me a whopping $220 a night O.O

dont worry you dont need to hurry with the translation. you dont need to say sry about it, ur volunteering lol.
