Synopsis:

Sanada plays a salariman who just lost his job. Yonekura, his wife, is a dancer who gave up her career when they got married. In the middle of family crisis, Yonekura leaves to pursue her dream. Sanada is stuck with their only son. Suzuki, his old flame -turn jet set career woman- is forced to take care of them. Will the romance spark again, now that Sanada already has family, and Suzuki has a younger man, Makoto, beside her?

I only saw Sanada Hiroyuki (feels weird saying his name that way) before in his English language projects. (Rush Hour 3, Revenge, The Wolverine) I was intrigued when I saw him playing a very different kind of character in this drama. And to date, this is his last j-drama.

Raw DVD's - http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_123739.htm

Smaller re-encoded raws - http://doramax264.com/17209/hikon-kazoku-j-drama-2001/

Special thanks to Avallac'h for providing dvdrips, hardsubbed vcdrips and extracted timing. I edited and retimed the subs from the hardsubbed rips.

For episodes 1 and 2 - http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_126354.htm

These subtitles are going to be a little different from jendral_hxr's as I will be using Japanese honorifics.

Update: Hikaru works in a bar, not hotel.

Episode 5 note: Chikako is being called oku-san, which means someone's wife. A man wouldn't call his own wife oku-san though. I tried using madam, but it wouldn't really mean that she's married to someone. Then I tried using Mrs and Missus, but it didn't look good so I just decided to use oku-san.

Update: I just got accepted for my first job. I was unemployed when I transcribed Sayonara, Ozu Sensei. Releases won't be as fast as before as my free time has been greatly reduced to weekends. Please be patient for future episodes. :)

I don't want to drop any project; I don't like leaving something I started undone.

Congratulations on your new job!! :thumleft:

Take your time, there's no rush. Thank you for continuing with the transcription.

A husband can refer or call his own wife as 「うちの奥さん」 Uchi no Oku-san or the following terms: 「嫁さん」 「妻」「家内」 「女房」 「カミさん」 「連れ合い」 「ワイフ」

Thanks y0ssy and Keiko1981!

And, sorry if I didn't specify with details. I read somewhere online that a man doesn't call his own wife oku-san. Anyway, Chikako is being called oku-san by people in a hotel she's staying in with Yosuke (the main character) and his son Shota. Yosuke doesn't call her oku-san. They're not married and Shota is not her son. I was just looking for an english word that will be an equivalent of oku-san.

It is possible for a man to call his own wife "kamisan" or "uchi no okusan" and there are many forms of addressing one's spouse depending on the relationship with the other (3rd) party and who is talking to whom, their position/status/inner circle, etc. and that may change accordingly. Some of them may even call their spouse by their family name followed by san (e.g. Abe-san) and it doesn't mean they aren't married to each other. :lol

なるほど (I see...) "Madam" or "Lady" would be the closest context to the word "oku-san" in this situation for Chikako.
There are other examples in weblio such as:
旦那様は奥さんとお揃いでお出掛けになりました。
Master and mistress have gone out together.

The origin of the word 奥様 can refer to someone who resides in the far interior or back of the house, away from the entrance.

Hello, thank you for creating these subtitles! I hope I don't sound ungrateful - I am sure it takes time and effort, but could you give a general update as to when you might have time for he rest? Again - thanks for doing this!

Well, I hope you didn't just create an account to ask the status of the subtitles.
The rest will be up when they're done.

The reason I registered was my interest in a good TV show and my admiration for your work that benefits so many people. Of course I am happy to wait as long as it takes. I am sorry if my question came across rude, I never meant to offend you. I was merely wondering if there was any reason you were unable to continue your work and I am happy there isn't.
Have a lovely day!

I'm very sorry to let everyone down. Transcribing is really time consuming and I don't really have time for that anymore.
I'm still available to edit subtitles like proofreading.
If no one takes this project then I might consider continuing it sometime in the future.

Sorry to keep everyone waiting for nothing.
