Sayonara, Ozu Sensei [Eng Subs] (Complete + SP)

Postby kliesen11 » Tue Nov 12, 2013 5:12 pm

Image

Synopsis:

Ozu gets hired on to be a temporary teacher at a private high school in Tokyo. There is a major problem though...he hates kids. Actually the problem is worse than that, he hates people. He has come to not be able to trust people anymore, so he doesn't even see them as people. Which pretty much makes teaching anything to anyone out of the question. To make things worse, the kids at the school have lost all of their ambition. This teacher can't teach children, and he can't be taught.

This story is depicted with a comedic touch, as Ozu and the students go through some violent, yet funny times on the way to his learning some valuable lessons from them. --Fuji TV

From: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Sayonara,_Ozu_Sensei

I transcribed the subtitles from hardsubbed VCDRip provided by Avallac'h and retimed it to the raws here http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_110725.htm

2004 SP here http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_144916.htm

Smaller re-encoded raw files here http://doramax264.com/19347/sayonara-oz ... rama-2001/

While the lines translated by y0ssy, salparadise, and nyababan are accurate, I can't promise the other lines that I transcribed are also accurate. I tried my best to rephrase the poorly translated english hardsubs to make sense. Feel free to point out any translation inaccuracies.

Character nicknames:
Katou Ken is called "Katoken" as a nickname, which is short for Katou Ken. They just left out the 'U' at the end and made it into one word.

Ookubo Akio is called "Komori" because it comes from "Hikkomori", the meaning of this word is a person that is withdrawn or is mostly locked in his own room and doesn't want to communicate with the outside world. Like he said in episode 3, he's a person that would always lock himself in his own room and didn't come out much.

Nagase Kenta is called "Wanko". Literally means cute dog, don't know the reason though. Maybe because he's always so quiet and calm?

Akimoto Hikaru is called "Pika". He might be called Pika because his name, "Hikaru", means light. And "Pika" is a sound you make in Japanese when something is shiny. (Like "Pika Pika".)
December 22 update:
Some flashback scenes in episode 11 has been corrected by nyababan. I updated all the previous episodes with the changes. I might have missed some though.
December 9 update:
Line 15 of episode 6 should be "Komori, watch over us." I replaced the previously uploaded one.
December 7 update:
nyababan has suggested to use ghost instead of bogeyman, as the characters are trying to say that Ozu-sensei is like a dead person to them, who doesn't care about his surroundings. A bogeyman would suggest that he's trying to scare people.

His real name is Katou Ken but people call him Katoken as a nickname, which is short for Katou Ken. They just left out the 'U' at the end and made it into one word.

I updated all the previous episodes with these changes.
Notes for episode 8:
Rookie tournament is probably not the right word here, but it's the best nyababan could come up with. In Japan there's a word for tournaments for members that joined a team in the past 2 or 3 years (not just school teams). Freshmen tournament wouldn't be right, because that wouldn't include the members that joined 2 years ago. It's basically a high school basketball tournament. Different high schools competing to eventually go to a national level tournament.
Notes for episode 7:
- Hanafuda can also be considered gambling because you can play for money, similar to poker.
- Fuzoku in Japanese is a legal place (mostly) where prostitutes are.
Episodes 3-5 has been added. I want to especially thank nyababan for being patient in helping me. Vcdrip of Episode 3 has left out 15 minutes of scenes and it's subtitles was really horrible.

Episode 6 should be added sometime this week. Enjoy!

I found this only because of the post in Hikon Kazoku.

From what I found on researching this series it looks promising.

I am now downloading both the torrent RAWs and the smaller RAWs.

Thank you for subbing this. :salut:

PS: I hope that you finish Hikon Kazoku as your next project.

Episode 9 added. Added 'previously' scenes in the start of episodes 2 and 8.

Two more to go!

In asianwiki, it says that Ueno Juri first appeared in Sayonara, Ozu Sensei. Did anyone spot her?

According to Wikipedia.
She is supposed to appear in the special only. Aired three years after the show, in 2004.

It's mentioned in the Japanese Wikipedia article. Sorry, should have been more specific.

English entry is probably wrong.

Well, that's it for Ozu-sensei. The 2004 SP's out there. (Somewhere.)
I'm hoping someone can find it and upload it here. Ueno Juri appears in it!

A big thanks to nyababan for helping me through out this drama.

Until then, you can see Yusuke Santamaria (Katoken) in my new project, Perfect Love.

Thanks for watching!

I have a low quality rip of it. 324 MB, 480x270, ~1:30 minutes. Imo the videoquality is too low to share it.

Yes, quality is not very good. But I think it's okay to share it since no other versions available.
I happened to upload dramas in even worse condition.

Just got a reply from nyababan. He'll consider to make subs for it. But since there are no hardsubbed rips or any japanese subs to work on, it's going to take a while to finish it.

Korean softsub available.
I hope will be useful. At least there's no need to make timing from scratch.
