Title: ごちそうさん
Title (romaji): Gochisousan

Here are the English subtitles for week one. All subs done personally by me. I try to translate into what I think would sound most naturally in English. This is the first series I have ever translated, so please feel free to leave comments / constructive criticism. If you think there's a away to make the subs better (styling, layout, etc) I'm all ears. Thanks for all your support on this project and I'll do my best to release them as quick as possible. Special thanks to VampireXxX and Avallac'h for helping me get the raw HD videos. This is for all the foodies out there...itadakimasu!

Head over to the Kimigayo Subs website for some additional commentary:
http://kimigayosubs.weebly.com/

PS - Subs are timed for the NGB 720p releases, which I will also have uploaded each week BEFORE I release the subs. Enjoy!

Haha, I hope not either!! I've watched the first 4 weeks, and I love it. In comparison, I got tired of Amachan after week 3. Then again, there are a few factors which leads me to think I will love it throughout.
1. I'm a big Harada Taizo fan
2. I love foodie dramas
3. The era it's set in is great for an asadora.

So yeah, pretty safe to say I'll stick with it all the way through. I hope you enjoy the drama!

Sorry, not unless someone is willing to compress the 720p raws into a smaller format and upload those.

Thanks a lot for the subtitles!

Does someone need a different encodings (480p and 320p) of NGB files, like I did with Amachan and Junjo Kirari?

Hey, xaxa. No problem. I think there might be some requests for them, but I don't really have time to do the subtitles and reencoding on top of that. If you are offering, that would be great!! :)

Thank you so much for subbing this. I hope that you will continue with it through the end.

Also direct translations are too stilted and really detract from the story. I much prefer making it "sound" like it would in English.

For a first project an Asadora is a really big commitment. Good luck and thanks again.

Thanks for everyone's feedback on this so far. Comments go a long way so I know people are interested which gives me the incentive to do the project. I wouldn't have started it unless I was willing to do the whole thing. Like I said, I can do an episode in about an hour and then a little more of editing and rewording things and watching it again with English subs to see if it looks good. I'll be adding some comments for each week too since there is a lot of word play (namely every title). For example the title for week two is "Kimi to deatta" which means I met you. Only the kanji for Kimi is egg yolk (also pronounced Kimi). So I'll be trying to do some translator notes too in case people are interested in those kinda things. Anyway, feel free to let me know if u think the subs are too awkward. I'm trying to find the balance of not dwelling on every line but also I don't want to rush the translations either. I think the balance worked for week one, but I'll be trying to improve as the series goes on. Thanks everyone.

A suggestion.
You could the subtitles for each week in a RAR or ZIP archive, or have just one archive which you update with each new release.

Two suggestions.

1. It would be nice to have the RAW a bit ahead of time. Perhaps a couple of days since it takes a lot longer to download the video compared to the subs.

2. It would be a bit less space needed in the first post if you could "zip" or "rar" by weeks similar to what earthcolors did for Amachan or Heiwa Fansubs did for Carnation:

See: http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_137630.htm

....... http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_105405.htm

As far as your subs go, whatever keeps the story understandable is fine. I know that you take pride in your work but do not fret over too much detail.

Just thanks for taking on such a long project. This one looks really interesting and I am a fan of Anne Watanabe and FOOD too.

:D

Yeah, I can zip the subs if people prefer that. I'll see what I can do about the raws. I guess I didn't take into account that so many people have limited internet connections or hard drive space. As for the translations, hopefully they'll get more fluid as I get used to doing it more. However, I think week one turned out pretty good. I'm not really willing to sacrifice quality just to hurry them up and release them quicker. So hopefully everyone can be patient and know that the quality should be there :) Thanks again for all your comments, it helps me out in seeing what the community wants.

Sorry that I was not more clear. I do not want you to compromise your standards of quality for speed of release. But that translations from one language to another is as much an art form as it is science. If it was simple then a computer could be programmed to do it. What I meant was that you need not tweak every line to "perfection".

I will patiently await your posts because I am just glad that this Asadora is being subbed.

Again much thanks for taking this on. :salut:

Yes please! 480p quality would be fantastic.

And I agree about releasing the videos ahead of time.

Personally, I prefer to download the entire series in advance then wait until subs are complete before I start watching to avoid feeling frustrated or losing interest waiting for next week's subs.
Now watching: Too many to count. XD

Since xaxa takes the original 720 file and transforms them into smaller sizes, the subs that you will be doing will not require any retiming. They will work just fine for all three different sizes.

Really a bad decision to watched this at midnight :pale:

all the food shown made me hungry in the middle of the night :faint:

darn if only they also show how to cook the meal

but then again 15 minutes per episode is not enough :lol

PS - If you downloaded week 2 720p, please re-download Episode 12 from the new torrent. Somehow there was about 2 minutes missing in the middle of the original I uploaded. Thanks again! :)

Thank you for week 2!!! I LOVE this Asadora so much!!!!!!!!!! This is becoming one of my favourite doramas ever! What a great and memorable show, and it's only week 2 yet.

BUT... this Asadora is dangerous and somewhat paintfull, you can't watch it while you're hungry, or you will be tempted to eat the screen XD

I'm really enjoying this drama and your subs! :thumleft:

I tried to donate a modest $1 with papyal, but if I choose anything else but $20 from the pull-down menu on your site, I get an error message.

William,
Thanks so much for your generosity. I fixed it and tried it myself, so it should be ok now for any donation! Remember, if you donate at least $5, I'll send you the zip files for the subs right to your email before I publish them on here or on the site. I figure it's not much, but at least something for people who donate, that way they don't have to keep checking to see if the new subs are out yet!

Of course, I'm doing this by myself voluntarily so donations aren't necessary, but any donation goes a long way in helping me out. Thanks again for bringing it to my attention and enjoy the show!!

PS - Thanks for making that your first post here on D-Addicts!! Welcome!

Now it works! :) You'll find the donation under another name than William Addams, which is just a nick (William was the guy who opened trade relations between Japan and my country in 1600).

It's been a while since I last watched a j-drama (the last ones I watched before this were Shota no Sushi and Dragon Zakura). I've seen so many American series lately that I'm in the mood for something different again and this is perfect to watch during breakfast before I'm of to work :)

Update: Week Four subs are now up for everyone!

I really enjoyed this week in the series. Episode 24 was one of my favorite so far of the series. Really quite touching. I hope you all enjoy it!
