Kamo, Kyoto e Iku. [Eng Subs] (Ep 01-05)

Postby xxo » Mon Apr 22, 2013 12:31 am

Raw files: http://jdramacity.blogspot.com/2013/05/ ... oeiku.html
Episodes 6 and beyond covered by subie06.

Some notes for ep#1:
00:10 -- Mysterious Kyoto address formatting. Last part omitted (助門前上ル).
02:54+ -- this is just a big clump of kanji (organization names/departments) that would probably fill half of the screen if all of them were translated (if I could even find English names for them). Some stuff omitted.
12:17 -- Rakuchuu Bank (洛中銀行). 洛中 = within Kyoto.
29:13 -- Sakamoto Ryouma
30:09 -- Bakumatsu
31:40 -- 和して同ぜず (how I interpreted the definiton I found - cooperation is important, but not at the expense of one's individuality). She goes on to explain it (slightly differently) a line later, so a translation followed by an explanation seems awkward. The other characters in the room look perplexed, so maybe not something commonly known anyways.

Decided to leave food items mostly in Japanese because I'm unfamiliar with these dishes and to keep the lines somewhat clean. The list.
16:19 -- ousu: kind of tea, shino: truffle
18:05 -- mirugai: trough shell, urui: hosta, harinegi: thinly sliced onion
18:29 -- ainame: fat greenling. sudorimyouga: pickled ginger (root?).
36:38 -- takenoko dengaku: grilled bamboo shoots with miso glaze, aotougarashi: kind of pepper
36:41 -- tai: sea bream, toro: fatty tuna, shimoyakidukuri: sashimi technique

Escaped typo: Kamo's age should be 28, not 27.

Notes for ep#2:
10:23 -- darumasan ga koronda [childrens game]
13:12 -- depachika: underground department store/food market
17:16 -- asabori: takenoko (bamboo shoots) harvested in the morning - they apparently harden when exposed to air, hence sold by afternoon

Notes for ep#3:
00:07 -- nukazuke (typed as nukaduke, but the 'z' probably does sound more appropriate)
04:03 -- happi
06:37 -- Pontochou: red light district in Kyoto around Kamo River.
45:28 -- apparently newspapers can be used in a variety of ways for thrifty cleaning purposes. Had to look that up, so I suppose the line might also confuse others.

Notes for ep#4:
02:47 -- Ogata Kourin [artist]
02:53 -- maki-e [art style]
10:18 -- Kameyakiyonaga's hana [food - jp product page] -- the colorful jelly-like dessert with a flower inside
11:26 -- wagashi [food]
16:58 -- kagezen: "a meal set for an absent person" -- it's taken to mean a meal set for the deceased in the episode, but it can also just be a meal set for people who are away (at travel, war).

Notes for ep#5:
00:03 -- Tawaraya Sotatsu [artist]
00:37 -- Fugaku is another name for Mt. Fuji; Shino Oribe [jp page]
02:21 -- Myouchin -- family of armor-makers
02:36 -- Takahashi Rakusai -- family of potters
03:38 -- Aoi Matsuri [Kyoto festival]
06:41 -- futaba kashiwamochi [food]
08:24 -- Nishijin-ori -- "a district in Kamigyō-ku, Kyoto, Japan, and (by extension) a traditional textile produced there"
16:07 -- Kanshundo's asatsuyu [food - jp product page]
33:46 -- Arashiyama [place] -- "a nationally-designated Historic Site and Place of Scenic Beauty"
43:32 -- tameguchi: casual / informal speech

Yes! Thank you so much for taking this on -- and especially the notes. The first episode seemed especially full of vocabularly and references designed to set the scene in traditional Kyoto -- your notes are a very helpful guide. :thumleft:
Looking forward to the rest -- お疲れ様でした! :salut:

Re-uploaded ep#1 - rewatched and noticed a handful of little but jarring typos (me/my, be/by, etc.). If you downloaded it, but haven't already watched it, newer version recommended.

ep#2 was nice. Thanks furransu. Looks like it shouldn't take too long.

Just wanted to drop by and say thank you for subbing this series. This is probably the only thing that I'm watching right now that I would consider to be equivalent to worry-free tv. No crazy antics, elaborate plot lines or outlandish characters which is what makes it all good. I like the no-drama drama of it. Thanks again.

Thank you XXO. Without your effort this exceptionally wonderful drama with its message about the value of human connections would not reach so many people. This drama resonates with me in many ways and I'm so grateful to be able to view and understand it. Thank you again and best wishes in all your life endeavors!

I posted today specifically to answer this. Also, this isn't my job and the demanding tone is comical, but not appreciated. Learn the language if you want to watch the episodes as they air.

you are doing a poor job. learn to be punctual. instead of wasting time being defensive about your shortcomings, sub the episodes or pass them on to someone who actually has a sense of responsibility.

Bananaman22 Please don't put pressure on the subber. People do this in their own time. Your comments are not helping and rather rude.

I would like to second Antspace.

xxo doesn't owe anyone anything to sub this drama. He has a life, and that is his priority. If anyone wants to watch this (or any) drama as it airs, then learn Japanese or Mandarin. Otherwise, you'll just have to wait for the subber to finish working on the episode. Saikou no Rikon finished airing last season but the episodes are still being subbed. Can't be helped -- you just watch something else while waiting.

I don't normally post on forums but I had to say something in this instance. Bananaman22, you're not the only one waiting for the subs. Please don't ruin this for everyone else.

xxo: You're doing a great job. I've come across subs that are incomprehensible so I'm very grateful for the fact that your subs are so clean. Keep it up! [/quote]

I don't usually post either, but, wow! the comment by bananaman22 was so mean spirited I had to chime in.

We should all thank xxo, the subs for this show are great - coherent, transparent, timing is perfect. I don't even feel like I'm reading. Look forward to the rest of the show, whenever xxo can fit in the time. This is a kind act by this subber to share with us her/his talent. I noticed that over 600 people appreciated the most recent episode, I hope that the single sourpuss doesn't discourage.

Great show, artful and well-thought subtitles - thank you!

@bananaman22:
There exist no schedule when subs are released.
If you are inpatient, download and watch the drama after all subs are released. Or watch them without (google translated?) subs

I hope xxo take a break from subbing this drama and enjoy life more,
He doesn't deserve your complaint

your next rude post will be deleted.
Please share your files after download. Thank you.

In another thread http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_p1548070.htm:

bananaman22 wrote: Unfortunately, for those waiting, like you said, either wait, or wait, or wait some more, or just go learn some Japanese.

Sounds like you have to take your own advice (and the advice already given to you in this thread). Top marks for trolling though, without checking your posting history someone could easily make the mistake of taking you seriously.

This is your first and only warning. I don't know if you're trolling or what. But if you have been an active user here since 2006, you would have already known the rule about requesting status of any subtitles. If you don't know, here is a reminder. Do NOT request the status any subtitles here. http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_6882.htm

Your account will banned if you ignore this warning.
Please do not PM me about seeding any of my old torrents, as most of files that had uploaded are no longer on my computer.
