I would totally agree with Yuka san losing the divorce papers except she that she told Mitsuo she had a fight getting the ward office to accept them due to the mistakes she made filling it out. My prediction - some higher up in the office cancels the divorce on a technicality. It's the same idea, really. :lol
:lol This would be funnier than having Yuka lose the divorce papers.

Ep10... aww I sooo want to hug Mitsuo on that near-to-end scene...

I think I can pretty much guess the ending already...
Yuka-Mitsuo will get back together, yay! hopefully, I'm not guessing it wrong XD
Final ep next week! Time flies so fast! (for this drama, I mean)

I can't believe the final episode is about to drop. I feel sad this dorama is ending. I know it's just a TV show, but it entertained me so profoundly with it's near-perfect comedy-drama. Hilarious as hell and deep as the ocean - shows like this don't come along often enough.
Sigh....

I just watched the final episode.
I was moved to tears during three different parts!
I couldn't understand everything, but the amazing acting, script and direction allowed me to connect with all of the characters in a meaningful way and enjoy every moment of the viewing experience.
I give Saikou no Rikon's finale a solid "10/10".
With subs, that will probably go up to "11/10" or "12/10". :P

Bravo to everyone involved in bringing us this show.

The scene at the train station
Mitsuo/Yuka-rashiii romantic scene! hahaa... to think of it, they didn't had even one romantic scene before, and that train scene was as far as they can get, lol. Still cute though, cause this is Mitsuo/Yuka we're talking abt^^ Realistic fuufu, hehe.

So apparently, Yuka DID submit the divorce papers properly? But now they were talking about registering their marriage once again, but Yuka haven't submit their marriage paper to the ward office? That's my understanding.
Anyway, GREAT FINALE!! it was one good drama!

Ganbatte for the rest of the eps, koitsu-san!! :salut:

THIS is what puts the script in the top ranks. Saikou no Rikon, no matter how fanciful or out there the situations could become, NEVER insulted the viewer's intelligence.

Ah, I forgot to mention another thing about the finale.
That Mitsuo's father act exactly the same like his son! Mwahahaa... the same clean/neat-freak. And his mother is the exact same as Yuka! Mitsuo's parents cracked me up so much, because of that, haha. I'm surprised Yuka is bestfriends with Mitsuo's grandmother instead of his mother.

And how the 2 families meeting went, was also hillarious! It ended so fast, and I think Mitsuo-Yuka were actually disappointed with the result :lol

I loved when he pulled her onto the train. Both of there reactions we epic. The whole, "Well, whatever!" solution to the core problem of the show was hilarious as well. I wish they had put a little more emphasis on Ryo/Kono though. I mean we can infer that their relationship has improved, but with the whole, " I don't love him but I'm marrying him for the kid" statement that she gave before, they didn't really give us an emotional retraction or resolution.
Great ending and one of my all time favorite shows!

Saikou no Rikon had to compete with Nakuna Harachan, Jun to Ai (NHK asadora), Karamazov Kyoudai, Tonbi and Yakou Kanransha... the winning dramas from last season.
But they won a sweeping victory, anyway! If only they have Best Music Score category too... I'm sure Saikou no Rikon wins too^^

Feel like rewatching the drama again :roll

Congratulations! It was a great drama. I'm a bit sad that Jun to Ai didn't get rewarded like so many Asadoramas before, but realistically speaking the story went down the drain after week 8. Saikou no Rikon really deserves it, very good acting and story. We need more dramas like this.

Awards well deserved.

After only 10 minutes of episode 1 i was hooked. Can't remember the last time a drama clicked with me so quickly.
And Hamazak-san (hehe) was just the right sort of neurotic and awkward for me to identify with him.

Funny -Charming- Insightful and sad.

Finale
I was really hoping for both couples getting a divorce and remain friends. It would be a perfect/innovative ending. And would match this dorama's title. Or at least one couple getting married and the other one getting a divorce so "people are different" moral would be stronger. Akari/Ryo's ending lacks some deepness, but they were always a supporting couple more than a main couple, and I think this is one of the weakest points of the story.
Overall, this dorama deserves kudos for its over the top dialogues and fresh directing. And Eita's acting. 4/5 =)

omg! I was just re-watching my fav scenes from this drama two days ago!

The japanese news articles says the SP story will start 1 year after the series ends and Akari and Ryo's child is born already.

But what I really want to see is for Mitsuo and Yuka to have a child ^v^

Can't wait!

Synopsis for [Saikou no Rikon SPECIAL 2014]
The story picks up one year later after the divorce papers were written. Mitsuo still has the habit of complaining at the dentist, but he continues to live with Yuka and is entertaining thoughts of remarriage. On the other hand, Akari has given birth to her child in Aomori and Ryo is waiting for her to come back to Tokyo the next day. Things appear to be going well for the two couples. However, the four of them will face a new big crisis. The teaser are the three keywords “first love”, “children” and “life’s choices”.
source: jdramas.wordpress.com/2013/12/13/saikou-no-rikon-returns-with-special-drama

Mitsuo and Yuka stayed divorce but living together :w00t: haha, VERY "them". They dont have the courage to submit the marriage papers again for the whole year. :lol

And this line is included in the SP's summary from the official site. One of Mitsuo's line in the SP2014.

「離婚の原因ってなんだか分かりますか? 結婚です。結婚するから離婚するんです。つらいです」
"Do you know what causes divorce? It's marriage. You get a divorce because you get married. Such a pain."

Just from this line, I think I know that I'm gonna love the SP episode :D

I come tearing over here to share the news about the Saikou no Rikon SP, and I see I am a latecomer to the show. :lol
I am really excited, but I hope the SP won't compromise with easy resolutions to thorny problems just because many fans are gagging for happy endings all around. I thought the way the original dorama ended was pretty satisfying. I hope they don't mess with perfection here, like they did with IWGP way back (brilliant series, insultingly bad SP despite the same creators).
But, yeah, just the thought of a SNR reunion makes me smile.

Spoilers for the final episode/SP...
So, Yuka and Mitsuo end up separated. Although bittersweet, it's still satisfying and it's probably a better ending than if they ended up together. Saikou no Rikon is a pretty "realistic" drama, and real life doesn't always have a happy ending.

Interestingly though... Yuka said in the last few minutes of the final episode that she didn't turn in the divorce papers. Technically they're still married? That never seemed to come up in the SP.

Episode 11 of the drama
Actually.... Yuka said though they're back together, they couldn't bring themselves to submit their marriage papers again. Maybe there was a mistranslation in the subtitle. So they stayed divorce but living together at the end of Episode 11
SPECIAL 2014 spoiler
In the beginning, their parents reminded them its been a year since they got divorce. Then Mitsuo declared "We will end this divorce! We will get married again!"

I agree the ending for this SP is perfect, although painful. The more Mitsuo and Yuka realized how much they love each other, the more they realized they can't stay together. They have different wishes in life. They separated while still loving each other. But Mitsuo did send a love letter to Yuka at the end, telling how much she means alot to him and he proposed her again. So they open a possibility for another SP, I guess... But even if this is really the end, I don't mind. It tells you that you might not be able to stay in a marriage just with love. And the audience doesn't have to know Yuka's answer to Mitsuo's proposal. But Mitsuo's love letter was really beautiful

I cried a lot while watching the SP.
Although I only understood a few parts of the love letter, I still think it's very beautiful and touching. The ending really was bittersweet.
@yanie
Thank you for the spoiler. I also got a sense that there's still a possibility of another SP.
Does anyone know who will be subbing the SP?

Yes, you're right. I rewatched that scene again, and I'd originally heard "rikontodoke" instead. As you can imagine, that makes for quite a different experience. It'd have been a crazy twist, mirroring Ryo/Akari and their non-submitted marriage papers. It seemed like something that Yuka might do to tweak Mitsuo. Still, it's good to know I was mistaken, and the SP makes more sense continuity-wise. :-)

loving the Spring season? Or did he just simply referring Spring = Yuka? :roll

I'm also sure there's gonna be a 2nd season in Winter or Spring 2015 :P
Earliest, in Fall 2014, just the right time for Mitsuo & Yuka's baby to be born, lololol :lol
Imagining Mitsuo changing the baby's diapers

Am I the only one who think sometimes Mitsuo looks like Mr. Bean? I mean not his looks, but his quirky behaviour, what he does, the way the camera shoot him, etc lol.

I just love Mitsuo-san! ^v^

About the SP
Happiest possible ending.

I mean, last year we were talking about different paths in life, multiple perspectives about relationships and divergent personalities. So a "saikou no rikon" should be a couple still loving each other, wanting happiness for each other, but still following different paths. I was very unsatisfied with ep. 11 because of Yuka and Mitsuo's resolution. The child problem was unsolved and they just struggled together.

Now, MItsuo and Yuko will always treasure those memories, those feelings they have for each other. And they are free to pursuit happiness knowing they are not alone in the world. =)

The thing with the love letter at the end and Mitsuo proposing again kind of promises another SP or even another season. He said he would wait at his apartment and of course he won't wait forever (writing 101). She will return. After all this show has mostly focused on Mitsuo's selfishness. He will change and he will want a child. Can't end a drama like that. What kind of message is that to the people outside? Especially in Japan, where successful marriages are decreasing in unusually high numbers

The message is that happiness is a different thing for each individual and not an established pattern.

Well, this is just my understanding, since, in the end, I have to admit it was an open ending.

From the letter:

"Yesterday, I had a dream. I saw you bringing lots of balloons. You tied the countless balloons to my body and yours too. The balloons raised us high to the sky and we were floating in the air. As we look down, we could see the Meguro river, Matilda and Hassaku looking up, the Uehara couple carrying their baby and waved their hands towards us. I could only float in the air blown by the wind. I was a bit sad that I didn't have control of myself."

/\ Here I think Mitsuo admits the sadness of the situation, greater than them.

"While everyone at the Meguro riverside is waiting for the cherry blossoms to bloom, they promise each other to have a hanami (cherry blossom viewing) together. That exciting season is coming again, huh." [...] "I still feel your love from the past. I will walk along the riverside too, today. The traces that we have lived together. You live in my mind... ...and I lost my way inside you. It's strange but I don't feel like I'm alone. Someday, I guess I'll remember that what I'm thinking now is such a foolish thing. We'll wander around at midnight, eat together, laugh together, hold hands, and I will ask you the same thing with our cheeks puffed with baked sweet potato. It's fun when we're together, you know? Will you grow old together with me? Will you marry me? February 8th, 2014. I'm waiting for Spring to come, together with two cats, in the old apartment building at the Meguro riverside."

/\ He never sympathised with that season. But now he knows how good it can be. And with this knowledge, he moves on, not alone, because of those feelings. And someday he might regret this. But until there, he will be at his apartment, with those two cats, waiting for the happiness to come, whatever it is.

I agree with both opinions above :roll
Cause the ending perfectly works both ways, as the true ending or open ending. Sakamoto Yuji is a genius :D
