I had started to translate the subs from french to english, I finished the 2nd episod not too long ago. But if you're translating from japanese to english your subs might be more accurate.

You're welcome. :)
I was surprised to see the show was getting attentions from other subbers too.
When I watched the show at first, the first thing I thought was whoever subs this show would see a hell.
So many jargon, actors talk fast, and all their words are important so you can't omit them even though the timing are so short...
But I decided to take this show up because it's a shame how such a superb drama was being left unsubbed.
You'll see a lot of words for short timing, so you might have to pause the video to read them,
which I usually avoid, but in this drama, it was necessary since every word is essential.

ARATA was perfect for a creepy tax evader and actually Tanaka Kei (newbie at the tax bureau) is my favorite of this show.
He's believable and funny. (I couldn't tell the difference between Tanaka Kei and Mukai Osamu for a while. :P)

The jargon is the main problem.
I've not finished the drama yet (lack of time) but the cast is amazing and it's different from other drama.
I'm a fan of Tanaka Kei and Eguchi Yosuke (since Triangle) so I wa sglad to see the subs in French (since it's my mothertongue).

I'm sure you did a great job with the english subs but it's not an easy drama to translate. So keep it up!

Good job!
I was about to work on this, attempt it as a first project as I saw everything else subbed, glad I checked the english sub section too :)
For timings, I recommend using the Japanese subs if you aren't already.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the tip. :)

If you're still looking for a project, I recommend Tetsu no Hone.
That's the another NHK series less likely to be subbed.
Koike Teppei did unexpectedly good job.

Thanks for the suggestions but seems like there's no Japanese subs for it :(
I'm still learning Japanese and so my skill level isn't quite there yet. I just finished 2nd year Japanese at my university and am studying part of third year on my own. I thought this would give me some nice experience. I would've liked to sub rinjo season 2 but that also doesn't have a transcript/japanese subtitles so its much harder to guess what kanji it is/thus looking it up that much more difficult for me.
Wish you the best and have lots of fun with this project!

I downloaded this series just in case someone would be kind enough to sub it later. Bid-rigging and government contracts + Koike Teppei should make for interesting viewing. Anyway, I still think we're mighty lucky that you and hubby_b picked up Chase as a project. :whistling:

Can you please explain something to me I just don't understand?
I've watched the first episode and about half of the 2nd episode, and I don't understand why the main character (the father/husband, tax collector)...
blames himself for his wife's death -- and why his daughter completely blames him for her death as well. I can understand about feeling guilt about perhaps being a bad father (never being home, etc) but that's very different than being blamed for the wife's death in an airplane crash. Is there something I missed? Because it he HAD gone on vacation with them and they had all gone together, all 3 of them would be dead now. Again, I understand the general feeling of guilt (from the husband) and anger (from the daughter) at maybe being a bad/never-home father, but why the blame for the wife's death, instead of just being blamed for being a father who is never around? I must be missing something...
Thanks!

@bakaman
You're not missing anything.
I felt it was a little too exaggerated when Suzuko blamed Haruma for his
wife's death. But you never know until you experience such tragedy.
You might try to find somebody to blame when you're in despair.

YES! I was trying to decide what I wanted to start watching tomorrow since I finished "Joker" and you just gave me my choice.

Thank you for this one... maybe especially this one since I'm a huge fan of ARATA, Eguchi & Aso and this one looked just too delicious for words when I first saw promos for it. Can't wait until tomorrow afternoon now. I've been waiting for this one! :P

Thanks for the subtitles - we enjoyed this series. We watched E6 before you released your subtitles, and it was quite a lot of work pausing and translating (we're an English-Japanese couple)

Before you had released E6, we posted a text file with a rough translation of Episode 6 (it was at the top of page 5), but it seems to have been deleted. Is there another forum for contributions like this, or should we have sent a PM instead?

This is called interrupting of a certain subber line of work, and it's against a common courtesy on DA. If you want to post your own subtitles, post from the very first episode in a separated thread. Do not hijack someone else's thread.
Thank you.

hp_sauce wrote:Thanks for the subtitles - we enjoyed this series.

Thank you.

Noted. Thanks for explaining.

I didn't even notice the post.
Thank you Ethlenn, for maintaining the subtitle threads well.
Without it, I'd have stopped posting subs long time ago.

toyotaku,

In that case, this should be a perfect drama for you. :)
I quite enjoyed it. I hope you'll enjoy it as well.
I liked the very last scene, how it ended.
Like Second Virgin, Hagetaka, Gaiji Keisatsu, I like matured and sophisticated dramas
and this is one of them. NHK is at a different level in terms of making quality drama.
Thank you for uploading many raw, by the way. I liked Kurohyo which you're uploading.
The way it's filmed was cool. Too bad I had to stop watching since it was too violent for me. :P
I can't watch horror movies and fighting movies.

Popularity? Since I know what it means to be forgotten, I won''t be shaken by it. KNG
