Pure [Eng Sub] (Complete)
Pure [Eng Sub] (Complete)
This was one of my favorite dramas when I was teenagers.
I watched it again recently, and it was as good as I remembered, so I decided to sub it.
But amrayu kindly provided me with the translations made by NGN to make my workload lighter,
so I decided to use it as base translation.
We corrected some error, edited them to make it clearer, and also filled in missing lines.
Big thanks to amrayu, and also to ZemusDS for uploading the raws upon my request. :)
Broadcasted year:1996
Genre: Love story
Average ratings: 23.5% (Highest: 25.9%)
Theme song: Namo Naki Uta by Mr. Children
Cast
Wakui Emi as Orihara Yuka
Tsutsumi Shinichi as Sawatari Toru
Takahashi Katsunori as Kanzaki Ryo
Shinohara Ryoko as Fujiki Asako
Takaoka Saki as Terao Machiko
Fubuki Jun as Orihara Takako
Synopsis
Orihara Yuka (Wakui Emi) is a cheerful, young woman who lives a sheltered life due to her low IQ which
inhibits her cognitive abilities and the control of her impulsive feelings.
In that life, she has the love and support from her mother (Fubuki Jun) and her cousin (Takahashi Katsunori).
As well as her late father, who has also inspired and nurtured her amazing artistic talents in painting and
sculpture through his own works. However, with the meeting of a magazine reporter (Tsutsumi Shinichi)
who falls for her innocence, and the winning of a prestigious art competition, Yuka suddenly finds herself
stepping out of her little comfort zone...

Hi Chuks,
sounds great, I will give it a try definitely. Your taste in dramas is very good, so I am thankful you give us some older ones worth watching!
Thank you for your hard work. It is much appreciated, you can be sure!

I used to LOVE Aishiteruto Ittekure. Well, every Japanese loved it.
Guys would wear like Toyokawa Etsuji, (white shirt and chino pants)

snowyhill, I take it you're Japanese? I'm Japanese too. :)
Even though this is not a discussion thread, I love to discuss about Pure on this thread.
Only limited people check this thread anyway, since this is old drama.
I was only 14 when I watched it and loved Yuka's character.
(I even looked for the yellow coat she was wearing.)
She's still as cute as I remember, even from girl's eyes. Now that I'm almost 30,
I understand Yuka's mother's fear.
I'm still at ep03, since I don't wanna go way too ahead of the episode I'm working on,
to stay motivated to sub. I forgot how it ends, but hopefully it stays good.

Thank you very much!
I had to watch Pure raw since I wasn't able to find the NGN rips. At one time I know someone was going to post them but then they decided not to because the quality was so bad. The Raws I watched were okay though.
I did get the gist of the story although I'm sure this translation will help me understand a lot more.
Once again, thank you.

Subs for ep02 are out.
Since hubby_b is working on Chase, Phoenix took over him.
Thanks, Phoenix!
The dialog of Pure is very easy, since the low IQ, the main character and people
around her use easy Japanese.
Are any of you guys interested in me writing down some easy and common phrases
so that you can learn some Japanese?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The reason I said "try their hand" is because the page I listed is only in Chinese and you have to register and meet the posting requirements before you can download the files.

Thanks very much Chuks for taking on this project. I got started on Japanese doramas with the late 1990's - early 2000's classics (GTO, Long Vacation, Beautiful Life, Yamato Nadeshiko, etc.) and have been hooked ever since. Didn't know about this one and am finding myself getting nostalgic for the doramas of that era. Shinohara Ryoko looks soooo young as does Tsutsumi Shinichi, two of my favorite actors. Keep up the great work. Much appreciated!

I was also surprised Shinohara Ryko looked so young, especially I saw the first episode right after I got done with Tsuki no Koibito.

Me too! I was really surprised! I think she is much prettier the way she is now, yet she still has the same cute way of pouting her lips, and ++ improved acting.

I'll always remember Tsutsumi Shinichi as Oosuke-san, the binbou sakanaya-san who ran that little shop with his mother in Daikanyama. Just as an aside (hint, hint), the Mognet group started re-hardsubbing the series from DVD's but only got to Episode 4 and subsequently dropped the project in 2007 for reasons unexplained. If only the series could be finished one day ... just a thought.

Thanks for the subs! I am thoroughly enjoying this drama and can't wait to see what happens next with Toru and Yuka

Thanks to Chuks & co. I am able to enjoy this great show.
I am wondering something though. At the end of Episode 2, we are shown the headlines of the article the reporter wrote. We can see that he used the photo he said he wouldn't use. For you fluent Japanese readers, is it possible to see whether he was nice in the article, or wrote something mean? All I could see is that it seemed to be something about 'revealing her true character.' Does it seem that it is a critical/mean article?

I'll quote D-A guidelines...
You may want to consult with this link www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_38531.htm
I'll explain though to you what is known as internet forum protocol:
D-A has subbing threads, fansubbing threads, discussion threads... so that each area of discussion goes into the right forum to avoid clutter of information.
We will reward you by discussing in the appropriate thread...don't take it personal.
If you are not happy that I created the thread, PM me and I'll delete it and give you the chance to create it; even though that is completely irrelevant since nobody owns a forum.

Chuks-san!!
Episode three subs came so much sooner than I expected. You must be enjoying going through this great series again.
There is so much to think about in this show.
Orihara-san is delightfully honest, but toward the end of this episode I think we can see that she is also extremely good at recognizing honesty and dishonesty in other people.
I am very curious to see how Orihara-san develops of course, but also the other people. I think a special person like her would change everyone around her for the better.

Yup, I'm enjoying a lot. Thanks to NGN's translation and Phoenix's fast job, I can
release them fairly fast.
> I think we can see that she is also extremely good at recognizing honesty and dishonesty in other people.
Yeah, I think her pure heart is allowing her to see things clearly, just like kids.
I wouldn't dare to talk to scary looking Toru. lol

I didn't notice that when I watched it first time, but this drama is more than just a love story.

Thank you for episode three, Chuks x Pheonix!
This has to be the main highlight of the show for me.
I just love how this show is so well-written that it reliably packs a gradual flow of character developments in every episode. Like how...
Yuka being changed by Ryo, Toru, her mum and the media; Her mum, by Yuka, Ryo and that conniving New Era woman; Toru, by Yuka etc.
Makes me wonder if there were other Jdramas that focuses so much on this aspect.
And I think Wakui Emi deserves a mention for her superb portrayal of a person with savant syndrome too; how do you describe it... child-like but not childish or cutesy?
Dunno whether my eyes were playing tricks but I caught her using some doll-like gestures which is just awesome if she did really use that as a reference.
My favourite has to be the way she stretches out her arm when giving something to someone.

Yeah, she is believable. Just like she was on Fumo Chitai, she doesn't overact.
She knows how to be just right.
I like it when she imitates Toru. :)
