Blogger vs Wordpress help me decide

Post by Keiko1981 » Aug 30th, '11, 05:33

I'd like to have some advice from you folks here at D-A.
I'm split between which blogging service I should be using.

What I like most about Wordpress is category/tags.
I believe the most space, will be used for images.

I'd like to hear what you have to say. I've noticed some fansubbers have moved from Blogger to Wordpress, please let me know your thoughts.

Blogger:
Easy to use/re-design.
Limited number of labels / categories, I think the limit is around 1500 labels.
Blogger blocked in China. (Is there many Chinese users at D-A who would like to be updated about dramas that I'm seeding?) Wordpress.com is not blocked in China.
Less space (1GB for images at Picasa) than at Wordpress.com. But you can upgrade Picasa, for pictures. This would be a cheaper option than getting an own domain/hosted elsewhere.

Wordpress.com
More space, 3GB
More options when it comes to categories and tags, more space.

Wordpress.org
Costs for domain/web space.
Harder to change design if you don't know CSS.

As someone who uses blogger, I recommend Wordpress. Formatting anything properly on Blogger is a huge pain and usually involves mucking about with html.

Blogger is easier, actually, but only to make the start with. It's simpler. Wordpress will take time to master, but you have more freedom with it, I think.
I use Blogger and only gave up on making a Wordpress page because the way they tried to teach us at school was long and left unfinished and all.

I think you need some basic html and css for both though. Quality-wise, Wordpress seems the better service. Maybe you can demo both and decide.

I have some HTML knowledge, but absolutely no CSS.
