For someone new to the drama scene, picking which dramas to watch may be daunting. What would be cool is if each d-addicts member can give a score (0-10 points) for each drama that they've seen, and maybe a script can be written to tally up the points. I'm mainly throwing ideas and rambling at the same time... anyone proficient with modding phpbb?

I thought about starting a 'Best Drama of All Time' poll, but I figured people would have a hard time picking just one. And as new dramas come out, their pick may change.

Still, I'm curious about what people like and don't like... so that I can pick what to watch next and what to avoid. How about a top 5 best dramas of all time? And if you want, list 5 worst dramas of all time to help out your fellow d people :)

Here's my top 5:

1. Full House
2. Success Story of a Bright Girl
3. GTO
4. Over the Green Fields (? unsure of the actual english translation, and never seen it torrented)
5. That Woman Gets People (?)

It would be fun seeing the stats of actual numbers of downloads here. :) For each country.

I don't have preferences myself that I could post whereas I have not seen a drama I have afterwards considered a total waste of time. Well, Food Fight was a border case.

Just for curiosity's sake: what were the dramas that had you checking for the next episode all the time (and watching immediately upon release) until you declared them totally disappointing after having seen the last episode?

Has any1 ever seen " WangCho " (English name is Godfather or something like that) ?
(Cha In Pyo, Song Yoon Ah, the drama about the love and life of people in the war between North and South Korea, sorry for mentioning this but that was the past already !!). That was really great drama of Love , War and Humour !! :lol

My best 5 set ever is :
1. Wang Cho (1998)
2. You and I (1996 Cha In Pyo, Lee Bon, Song Seung Hun. Son Chang Min, Choi Jin Sil)
3. Glass Slippers
4. Bright Girl (Successful...)
5. Purity

Those today dramas have the same kind of love stories becoming really boring, when you watch a lot you will realize it.

P/S Any1 knows some source to download WangCho, plz tell me. Thanks a lot. :D
Nothing is impossible, Nooone is invincible...!

Lovers in Paris....

i waited anxiously for each episode to come out and expected an ending that would have me swooning with happiness or sympathizing with a great deal of sadness if it wasn't a happy ending..

it turned out to be neither...

i might have to even take that off my list of my Top 5 favorite dramas....ending was disappointing and could have been better.... :-(

TOP 5 DRAMAS
1. Long Vacation
2. GTO
3. Wedding Planner
4. Tengoku Ni Ichiban Chikai Otoko / Heaven Cannot Wait

and....er......

5. (it's a tossup between)

Blackjack Ni Yoroshiku
Trick 1
Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake
Orange Days

:D I guess it would seem like I cheated :D I can't help it! It's so difficult to choose just 5. I only posted jdramas cause I can't seem to get into kdramas....too long :-/ Also too melodramatic, and characters seem to be kind of, well, extreme. Like the good characters are really good, and the antagonists are reeeealllllly evil. I did enjoy BRIGHT GIRL though.

-----------------

TOP 5 SCORES

1. Long Vacation
2.Love Generation
3. GTO
4. Wedding Planner ^^
5. er....allow me to cheat again :D

the ff don't really have the best overall scoring/soundtracks, but their themesongs sure do rock :D

-Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake
-Tengoku Ni Ichiban Chikai Otoko
-Trick 1
-Itsumo Futari De
-Blackjack Ni Yoroshiku

It's impossible to give you the absolute top 5 dramas, seeing as there are so many good dramas out there, and many more I've yet to finish, that my force me to change favorites... But I will give you my opinion on some of the music in dramas... I will categorize it, seeing as how attempting to think of the best overall music would be just as impossilbe as trying to think of the best dramas...

Best Single From a Drama

(TOSS UP BETWEEN)
"Dreaming Butterfly" - by 3rd Line Butterfly from K-drama, ROYOW
"Doll's Dream" - by Loveholic from K-drama, A Good PersonI
I don't know why, but something about Dream/ or Dreaming seems to do it for me

Best Complimentary Score to a Drama

The music from the K-drama, Tell Me You Love Me.
The simultaneously quiet, flowing, and tragic tone of the music added the new dimensions to the tragedy of this drama. The music and the drama fit each other so perfectly, in a way I've rarely seen in any drama

Best Intro Melody
J- Drama, Summer Snow.
This is what intro melody should be. Short and succint but still able to set the mood for the drama.

Best Ending/ Credits Music
J- Anime, GTO. I think its by someone named Kirari.
I know. Not exactly a drama. But I felt obliged. While the show itself is comical and outlandish, this song is very subdued. I liked it precisely because of that, as I felt it conveyed the inner emotion of Onizuka as a teacher.

Best Use/Adaptation of Music Not Intended for or Original to the Drama
Paganini's Classical Violin Piece in K-Drama, Sandglass. I think it's a sonata, but I'm not sure.
I wasn't a big fan of this drama, but I had to acknowledge its successful use of Paganini. So associated with the drama is the song that many believe it was written solely as the theme song and don't realize it's a piece by Paganini.

Best "Something's Gonna Happen", Impending Music
Music from K-Drama, I'm Sorry, I Love You.
I may be a bit partial considering I'm watching the drama currently. But dammit, it keeps me on the edge of my seat, making me eager and anxious to see what's gonna happen next.

Music With Most Comical Effect
Music from J- Drama, Gokusen.
I don't know if you would really consider it music, or just sound effects, but whatever it is, it's offbeat and highlights the humor in situations shown extremely well.

My point exactly! I watched it almost religiously cuz it had enough to keep me hooked. Then the last episode rolled around, let me down. Not just let me down but more like dropped me off the empire state building onto a vat of broken glass, then set me on fire.I felt like someone played a cruel joke on me, making me waste 20 hours of my life like that.

Since I have only seen the beginning part of one Chinese (TW) dorama and not started to watch ROYOW yet, I can't really classify them...

As for JDorama...

1) Toshiie & Matsu / sharing position with Kinpachi Sensei 6.
(I hate to leave out Kinpachi Sensei but it's in a genre all by itself in my book.)
2) Kasoken no Onna (Investigator Mariko) [now going strong with a fifth season]
3) Beautiful Life
4) Aoi Tori... (I should perhaps put this higher but ... naaah we'll see)
5) O-Sama no Resutoran sharing it's place with Long Vacation

I bet Sekai no chuusin de Ai wo Sakebu will place it self in here once I get it completed.

As for a TV special I'd include...
Kawa Itsuka Umi E
(6 episodes by 3 directors/writers) but at the same time I don't feel it fits the classification of a dorama only as we know them.
This is almost more a movie / miniseries really well made.

Best lead songs...

1) AOI TORI - Globe doing "Wanderin' Destiny"
Keiko's voice is unbeatable for this
I believe Marc Panther wrote the lyrics and Komuro... wow..
can anyone match his musical sense.

// FYI on the "Your know youre an addict" ...
Komuro married Keiko in 2002 so their both of the market folks :)
She won the audition to become Globe's member after falling of the stage first too.
Got back up and outsang the competition in a heartbeat.
A pretty funny tidbit of information I think. //

2) Forbidden Love - Utada Hikaru doing "First Love"

If I am not completely missinformed, she wrote the first lyrics for this one
when she was 12 years old, and this was what made her dad tell her to
start doing something with music more structured and determined.

I have yet to pick a 3 through 5 here...

I had a hard time with this one. In my current mood I would have to say.....

1. Full House
2. Attic Cat
3. Sorry I Love You
4. Lover in Paris
5. Ruler of Your Own World

Let me say I HATED the ending for Lover in Paris. And I wasn't pleased with the ending of ROYOW - they needed about 2 more minutes added onto the ending.

LOL Ask me again next week and my list will be different I am sure.

I rather liked the ending they had on ROYOW.

I can understand how some people prefer knowing exactly how things end, but I think in some cases the best ending is an ambiguous one. That was certainly the case with ROYOW. <THERE MIGHT BE SPOILERS> The ambiguity really highlighted the whole moral of the story, that moral being that the ultimate destination is not nearly as important as the journey itself. The way I saw it , Boksu's tumor was a plot device that was not so much intended to foreshadow a tragic ending but more of one to signify a new beginning. It's because he found out he might die, or at best lobotomized, that Boksu is able to put his life in a new perspective. Whether he dies or lives lobotomized is immaterial to Boksu; either way, he knows he only has only a limited time remaining to live as a fully conscious man. The drama is about his quest to make the most out of his remaining time AKA being the ruler of his own world. In doing so, this drama is told primarily through Boksu's eyes. The ending was a perfect way to end things the way it was perceived through Boksu. What would occur after the surgery is not nearly as important or worrisome to boksu as what occurs during the period of time prior to the surgery. The ending's ambiguity really drove that point home. By not focusing too much on the ultimate outcome, the veiwer is allowed to appreciate the true beauty of Boksu's life during tha time span of the drama. Maybe I overanalyze., but I think the people who made this drama were intending that efect.

I can't agree with you more.

i've watched sort of a lot of dramas, only korean ones so far. i am planning to spread my wings and venture into other dramas from other countries. anyhow my fave five are:

(tied for first place)
1. a tale of autumn/endless love
my love patzzi
3. four sisters
4. all about eve
5. winter sonata

for me, winter sonata was close to one of those dramas that had an ending that wasn't very satisfactory so watching the whole drama almost seemed a waste. after watching it a couple of times, i have finally made my peace with the ending.
bi kissed me in the spring,
brian in the fall,
But minwoo only looked at me
And never kissed me at all
bi's kiss was lost in jest,
brian's lost in play
But the kiss in minwoo's eyes
Haunts me night and day

Honestly to me any Asian drama is great they all have beautiful actresses in them.
I really like all the asian dramas not to be exagerating but when i saw my first Asian drama i thought i wasn't going to like it but when i noticed how beautiful Choi Ji Woo is. I couldn't stop watching it. That was my first asian drama, after that drama i watched Autumn Tale after that i was the biggest fan of asian dramas even though i've seen around 10 or 11 dramas i cant stop searching for them. I've only been a fan for a year and i will continue to be for as long as i can. Honestly My greatest wish do you know what it is, and i know that im not the only who wishes this but my wish is to have an asian wife because i think that they will really take care of you. Well sorry i got carried away, well here is my top five even though i havent seen that much

1.Winter Sonata
2.Autumn Tale
3.Summer Scent
4. All In
5.Pride

I just hope that outhere somewhere i could find a real nice asian girl that will take care of me. Well see you everybody and thanks to all of you people helping to seed all the great dramas and all the people translating them. We appreciated thank i hope in the future i could help all of you guys im trying my best to learn a couple of languages to help out. well Sayonara and Arigatou mina san.
THE LAST TIME I WENT TO KOREA IT WAS IN MY DREAMS.

Haha, i couldn't help laughing when i read this. Sorry to put a damper on your spirits (in case you were not joking). I think most Korean/Japanese series depict ancient Korean/Japanese culture. I would imagine that script writers and directors exaggerate in order to make a series dramatic and hence increase viewership. So don't fret, you're probably not missing out on much

I'm Chinese so perhaps i could be wrong. Any Koreans or Japanese to help? Or anyone who has lived in Japan or Korea?

But anywy i love the same series you mentioned. They're really great huh...

Hmmm, weird... could have sworn that I posted... but I can't find my post  ... guess I didn't then... oh well, here's my list (it's small, but it's growing, as soon as I start transferring those dramas from the CD/DVD back to my HD :x ):

In no real specific order/preference:

Pride (jdrama) - Gotta love a drama that has hockey as it's theme/basis. Of course, the female lead being so pretty helps too.

Gumiho (kdrama) - When I'm watching and following a series that's yet to be completed, it says a lot.... and well, Kim Tae Hee kicking some serious butt... enough said. Also, the songs in this series is just awesome... I've been listening to the OST for weeks and still do.

Ace Wo Warae (jdrama) - Another sports-themed drama, this time on tennis. This is a really good show, I mean, I only watched 2 episodes and I still consider it a favorite of mine... tennis and Aya Ueto... love, 15, 30, 40, I'm game :)

Gokusen (jdrama) - Similar to Gumiho, incomplete series, yet I'm already up-to-date on the latest e-subbed release.

That's it I guess... hmmm, I really need to watch more drama. I guess the trend for now is girls kicking serious butt (with the exception of Pride).

I had posted too... anyway they were 5 kdramas:

1) All In
2) Love Letter
3) Storm
4) Punch
5) Romance (coz of Kim Ha-neul)

(Don't remember if I put Storm before Punch or viceversa... anyway... it's hard for me to put one above the other as I like both of them)

It seems unfortunately only members can access my pdbox filebox... should be a different story when I open a clubbox... For now I've uploaded Argon in it... Address is: http://my.pdbox.co.kr/filebox/banville
