Synopsis: Associate Professor Shiratori Sadami (Nakai Kiichi), an anesthesiologist at a famous Tokyo hospital, is an expert in palliative care and an authority in the field of anesthesiology. His invigorating personality and cheerfulness make him stand out in the hospital and his relationships with women are tacitly accepted by everyone. However, Shiratori is suffering from end stage cancer. Aware of his impending death, Shiratori finds himself going back to his hometown of Furano. His father Teizo (Ogata Ken) and two children Rui (Kuroki Meisa) and Gaku (Kamiki Ryunosuke) are living there but all communication has been cut off since 7 years ago. Sadami’s flings with women had driven his wife Saeko to suicide. Because of this, he was renounced by his father and also wasn’t allowed to meet his children. His aged father looks after the British garden left behind by Saeko together with Rui and Gaku. Will the day come when he can be ushered into this beautiful garden blooming with seasonal flowers caressed by the breeze?

Nocturne is the ending song and it is in English. :)

three-ple-z @ triplez meant the french insert song tht was sung by Ayaka as one of the scene in the first episode. :D

LOL. Actually we are not sure if the french song is "Campanula no Koi". Well at least for me. XD
So lets just assume tht it is "Campanula no Koi" until someone clear tht up. :D

==== Edit ====

Tehee~~

Triplez manage to figure tht song out. It's Bambina by Lara Fabian. :-)

So, it's NOT "Campanula no Koi"

We have found the song and the lyrics. It's Bambina by Lara Fabian.

We will post more information about everything when we release the softsubs.

Campanula no Koi will probably appear in the later episodes.

We're also doing our best to understand and transcribe the words for Nocturne. We're almost 90% done.

Don't worry, we will make this the best subbed drama I've ever done. The hardsubs will look awesome.

From Yomiuri Daily's Televiews:

Actor Ken Ogata's swan song a rare TV gem
Wm. Penn

If one measure of happiness is doing what one loves right up until the moment of death, then actor Ken Ogata was a very happy man indeed. He ended his career with a starring role in what will likely be this season's most compelling series, the new So Kuramoto drama Kaze no Garden (Thursdays, 10 p.m., Fuji).

Ogata was 71 when he died of liver cancer on Oct. 5, just five days after the cast's final Sept. 30 press conference and four days before the series debuted. Ironically, he had chosen to keep his illness a secret during the filming of this delicate exploration of how people choose to live the last days of their lives.

Ogata plays Teizo Shiratori, an elderly Furano country doctor whose son, Sadami (Kiichi Nakai), is dying of liver cancer. When Sadami's wife committed suicide seven years earlier, Teizo blamed it on his son's philandering and banished him from Furano in Hokkaido. Teizo has raised his 13-year-old autistic grandson (Ryunosuke Kamiki) and his 21-year-old granddaughter Rui (Meisa Kuroki), who has taken over her mother's flower garden. When Sadami discovers he is dying, he decides to reestablish contact.

The drama is set predominantly in scenic Hokkaido, and each episode bears a flower name. But most of Episode 1, "Snowdrop," was filmed in Tokyo at the major medical center where Sadami is a top anesthesiologist. Nakai gives a very convincing portrayal of a modern doctor at the peak of his career. He is confident, proud and competent with a bravado that masks his inner feelings. His cool but cheery demeanor allows him to keep patients at a comfortable distance. The one exception is Akane (Ayaka Hirahara), a former patient who is now his girlfriend. When Sadami is called in to assist with the surgery of a high-powered stock manipulator (Eiji Okuda), who is also dying and estranged from his family, it provides a telling contrast with his own situation.

After months and months of dramanga and second-rate sitcoms, Kaze no Garden is a drama of refreshing depth. Ogata's country doctor is both kind and stubbornly unforgiving of his son. Sadami's daughter Rui is now involved with a married man herself. Not the usual caricatures, these are complex characters who make you care about them, even though you may not always like them.

Definitely worth tuning in for the farewell performance of one of Japan's great veteran actors. The first episode earned Video Research Co. rating of 20.1 percent. And, oh yes, it was Ogata who did the calligraphy for the title used in the intro.

We are so close to releasing Episode 01. The script is basically done. I'm just waiting to hear back from the QC team. Expect the softsubs and hardsubs to be ready in a day or two. :) I can't wait to show all of you our hard work.

And I've started on Episode 02.

Thanks for your answer, Marienella, you are someone one can rely on, as far as drama music is concerned. Strangely, I couldn't find any reference for this work on the site you give the link (well, there is no reference on "Arigato, Okan" either, so that is no proof :s)

Anyway, the music is quite interesting, albeit less enthralling than that of Bara no nai hanaya.

As for Kaze, I have watched ep 1 & 2 so far, and I find it quite interesting. I regard it as a cross-over between Bara no nai hanaya and Ushi ni negai o: Love & Farm. With Hirahara Ayaka, whom I see on screen for the first time and who happens to be my favorite singer :D

Sugoi! Thanks very much, I should have read more carefully. And you are right: that piece of info about Iljimae is interesting, I shall investigate a bit more to see what the music is like!!
(it is a pity it was not listed on http://cinematicroom.com/composer/index2.html, which is a convenient source of information.)

So I shall definitely order Kaze no Garden's CD when it is out :D (and Hirahara's new album, due the 13th of December)

Anyone else share my feelings?

I'm Liking this more and more though it can be slow in spots. It seems like they're trying to stretch it a bit to fill the required numbered of episodes, but it's fundamentally a good story and a very good cast. I really like the flower descriptions at the end.

A few comments and questions about Kaze no Garden OST :

1. The music is in fact mainly composed by Kamisaka Kyosuke, who is unknown to both Google and myself. Yoshimata Ryo composed only the (excellent) opening theme.

2. Some cues are composed by MOTOKO, whoever she is.

3. Track #3 is composed by Kanno Yuugo, and if someone knows where it comes from, I would be grateful :D

4. Overall, the CD is quite nice. However,so many cues are missing! Especially, I would have liked to have the music played during the Sapporo Festival. Does someone know its title and where I can find it?

Thanks in advance, everyone

I finished this drama and have to say that I liked it throughout. I've said before that I'm a wimp when it comes to dramas about heavy subjects. I don't often choose to watch them, but this was a welcome change. The actors were great and very natural in their acting, most notably-- Ogata Ken, Nakai Kiichi and Kamiki Ryunosuke. Be forewarned that this drama is slow, however, the story is evenly paced to whittle down to a conclusion.

Yeah, he did a CM with Takeuchi Yuko for a new line of Canon printers around that time too. They had to take them down (on the website) and reshoot everything without him as a form of respect for his passing.
