Synopsis
Sakurako Ban is a 12-years-old girl and the second child among four siblings. Since her mother passed away six months ago, she has taken care of house chores alone. Her father, Sota meets an American woman Alice Shepherd in the United States. Alice Shepherd aspires to become a photographer, but currently works part-time. Sota and Alice Shepherd decide to marry on on the spot. Sota takes Alice to Japan and introduces her to his children as their new mother. Sakurako Ban becomes angry and tries to kick her new mother out.

Mana is such a bright girl and producers all the time applies her talent in tragedies.

Haven seen anything of Mana since 'Ashita, Mama...' and Kate Fox did a good job in 'Massan'. It seems she did really find a sweet spot in Japanese TV-scape.
Mana and Kate may be just the combo for a good Dorama.

I am looking forward to viewing this one. I love the work of Mana Ashida. To think that "Mother" goes back to the Spring of 2010 and Mana wont be 12 until June 23rd.

First episode rating 4.8% Nooo... poor Mana-chan I always think it's a bad idea that Fuji place another drama head to head with TBS primetime drama. Seems like this drama has no chance against it. Fuji has really bad planning lately, the BoD should start thinking to dismiss that crazy shacho.

Onto the drama itself, it was really not what i expected from a script written by nojima shinji, I thought he could do better than this. The story felt so bland. I love all the cast, I think they're all doing a great job with the script given to them. I will keep watching since I love the cast and I hope it will get better.

This might not be the place to post this, but does anyone know if anyone is planning on making subs for this?

I noticed it was uploaded on Jdramacity, but they said they would only keep uploading it if someone was doing subs. I don't have a problem watching it raw, but I guess I can't do that if no one uploads it to begin with.
My next thought was that I could make subs for it myself (slowly)... but that wont be needed if an actual group is picking this up (unless that group needs a helper?).
(I'm so out of touch with the community, haha).

Ep2 tonight was better! I like how they don't show the face of Sakurako's hikikomori friend to keep him mysterious... and finally next week's episode sounds a lot more like a Nojima Shinji story! I'm so glad

I am glad to hear that the opening episode was kinda cliche.
BTW Heiwa is subbing this and they always do a great job and are really fast at getting out their subs.

I'm still surprised that C. Fox is in so many dramas. Do we know why? Any info/reasoning/gossip about it?

Because of her critically acclaimed role in Massan. She additioned for the main character in the Asadora Massan, and she won the role. She is a foreigner but she managed to please the japanese audience, she did show great acting and she was praised for her hard-work, because at that time she didn't speak japanese at all but managed to give stellar japanese at the show.
After Massan her fame could just fade away or she could just return to her home country, but she instead "fought" to make a living in Japan: she went to variety shows and she even released an album and sang at famous music shows. Later she acted in two Tanpatsu, the first got good ratings (for today's standards).
She is obviously trying hard, and I'm happy for her because we don't get to see foreign actors in Japanese tv-shows or movies that often and with success.
So this year she will be busy, she has now OUR HOUSE, and in the summer will premiere her movie Kodaike no Hitobito, though she has only a cameo, but is a great first step into the movie industry.

Thank you for your comprehencive explanation. seeing, that it was her hard work and commitment that won her the respect and recognition and not some weird marketing stunt (of some network execs) puts it in some new (better) perspective.
maybe she can as in OUR HOUSE find a new home in Nippon if she wishes for it.

Learn to have some patience. Episode 1 aired on Sunday. If I remember correctly it was posted on Monday. Episode 2 is now up at Jdramacity. For future episodes, check back regularly at Jdramacity.
