I like to say I'm hooked to kdrama and jdrama. Its better then watching the same boring reality shows every week. I spilt my down time between watching drama and anime. the drama is better to watch. Is anyone here tried of reality tv. I like that kdrama bases the storys from mangas. Thats intesting to see what I have read unfold on the tv.

Yeah, I spend most of my time DLing Korean and Japanese dramas as well as anime and reading scanlations. I only watch Grey's Anatomy, some randome music shows and Law & Order episodes whwn I find them on (HOUSE, too, but I keep mssing him TT^TT) I don't listen to the radio anymore either It's always my Japanese and Korean tunes on me mp3 player Though I do have a few american and british bands
i agree with you too :x_XJules wrote:me me me!!Calcifer wrote:How many people prefer Asian series/shows to most American ones?
LoL, i rarely watch tv these days, and when i do i usually watch cartoons or like adult swim... but even adult swim has been declining a bit lately (imo).
@x_xJulies nice new Avatar
Another American dropping in to say YO!
I stopped watching US television ages ago (still bemoaning the painfully slow death of PBS). The only thing I watch now is Dr. Who on SciFi (and that's BBC!) and Adult Swim (except for most of Sunday night's line-up, which seems to exist only to be outrageous without the humor of earlier projects). Becoming increasingly disappointed with their anime offerings, too.
Totally a Jdrama fan and I'd be lost without d-addicts. Not many people for me to talk to about it because most people around me can't be bothered to d/l dramas and I tend to prefer older actors (I like the younger ones, too, and there's plenty of talent, but too many fans on forums seem to think life and looks end at 30 ).
Nice to know there's a place here now to chat with other American Asian drama fans!

Whatzzz upppp!!
Yeah true.. i prefer watching asian dramas too although I still manage to watch LOST, Amazing Race, and American Idol. LOL.
There are times when watching dramas is all I do off work. Let me tell you something.. It's NOT healthy, yo!
Anyway, I bet there are no or very few Americans in Midwest who watch (or even know!) asian dramas. If you are one of them... say YEAH!!

hey guys!
hey guys! i'm originally from colombia but immigrated to the US two years ago. i don't really like american tv and most of the spanish shows being shown here are really over dramatic lol. so mostly i watch korean and taiwanese dramas and since there aren't any korean/chinese/japanese channels where i live, the only way i can see them is by watching them on youtube....

I was just about to kill "24" producers when they ended season 5 with Jack Bauer taken by the Chinese government. I like to watch other politics related TV shows. Too bad the West Wing is over. A less serious Commander in Chief is my substitute these days. Oh yeah, I watch FOX news for entertainment.
Heh, hello. I am an US born American with a Korean background.

hahaha, i watch all those WB shows. well, not all but like Everwood, Gilmore Girls, etc. i'm so sad that they ended Charmed, 7th Heaven, and Everwood all this season. GR! but since i'm now recently immersed into the world of k-/j-/c-dramas, i start to wonder how i have time to watch all of these. since i watch everything!
Anyone around the Lawrence, KANSAS area?
First off yes yes yes i've heard them all.. Where is toto..Where is dorothy...and yes we do have concrete roads...and yes it is flat...and yes there are a lot of cows...MOO!.
But i was wondering if there was anyone close by who would be interested in chatting about series and sharing opinions, reviews, etc. And if possible to watch series together.
As for me: Male/21/KS.
PS. Kansas is right smack in the middle of the United States for those who are bad with geography.

I second that I'm usually on my computer downloading whenever I'm not at school. The only American shows that I watch are Without A Trace and Lost.yukino2002 wrote:i also spend most of my time d/ling jdoramas. although i don't mind watching the occasional american show~ Lost, Project Runway (although i don't really like this current season), Grey's Anatomy. the best thing about d-addicts is no commercials.

I mainly watch Japanese/Korean/sometimes Chinese shows. AZN TV comes my area as well! I just get so frustrated when some shows don't have any subtitles, that's why I'm so thankful for d-addicts!
I do watch some American shows such as Grey's Anatomy, Gilmore Girls, Heroes, Scrubs, and 7th Heaven. Reality T.V. shows bore me...

hello "my fellow americans" hahaha
just like many of you, i haven't turned on the TV in ages. my friends have only recently noticed that i have a whole entertainment system in my room because we usually are watching asian drama/movies/music videos on my computer.
anyway, i'm just dropping by to subscribe to this topic so i can keep up with d-addicts (school's got me busy these days).
oh, and i'm 22/f/SoCal

I haven't watched any American TV for twelve years. I remember that the last show I saw was the episode of the X-Files with the Jim Rose sideshow freaks in it. A couple days later I saw an episode of Sailor Moon and realised that Japanese animated characters were better actors than anyone on U.S. television.
American TV... to me is just so extremely BORING. It seems to me, all the shows repeat themselves. They're either a school about high school teens, A medical show, or a crime-solving show. Snore.
Probably why I've taken up j-dramas and the like. I never watched much TV, i'm a more video game girl myself, but I enjoy watching asian dramas a lot more then American ones.
I wonder if in Asia they go online and watch the O.C?

I watch Grey's Anatomy, and sometimes that show that comes on afterwards. Besides that, NADA!
Actually, I like the Disney Channel..and sometimes Nickelodeon. I miss the good ol' nick nick nick days..
Still, I always download Asian dramas and watch them. I especially love Kdramas, because the comedies are always hilarious! I I will give anything a try though.

well hi, ive been living in the US forever minus the first two months i was born, i was born in Mexico, well in So Cal there was channel 18 (Mandarin, Korean, Japanese Dramas) and channel 44 (Korean Dramas) and they interested me more, and then we got on demand cable and i would get imaginasia, which gave me access to Japanese and Korean movies... my first K movie was "...ing," it was so good...
i recently moved from So Cal to Kansas... i live in Wichita, i saw two other KS peeps here...
well i still watch American TV, like Cartoon Network, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars(what the hell happened to this show?), America's Next Top Model...
I love K Dramas, J Dramas, and Tw Dramas, but i especially like oh well i love them all equally...

So true, except you forgot the sitcoms with the simple plot that gets beat to death with over use year after year, and reality t.v. which goes through the same dilema (American Idol, come on!)Kailey1710 wrote:American TV... to me is just so extremely BORING. That is so funny, I completely agree. One night I caught The Prince Who Turned Into a Frog on channel 26 in San Francisco, didn't understand a word but I got hooked. I started watching Asian dramas on You Tube and got rid of my cable. Asian dramas are so much better than American tv, can you imagine them showing something as good as Nodame?Kailey1710 wrote:American TV... to me is just so extremely BORING. My fellow citizens.....
Hello from the windy city that is Chicago. I started watching and trading Anime shows and movie tapes. Then the internet boom of downloading hit and the doors to Jdorama heaven opened. I stumbled to D-addicts about a year and a half ago, searching for a drama called Long Love Letter. I usually got my dramas from Search programs when they were all the craze, WinMX, Kazaa, KaZaa Lite++ and so on.
I rarely watch any American TV if at all. If even theres a show I like (which is hardly any.) I rather d/l it and watch it.
My favorite type of drama is mainly Jdorama's, I got to liking them more since i loved Anime.

I prefer them to Americans for so many reasonsCalcifer wrote:How many people prefer Asian series/shows to most American ones?
1. American dramas are too long
2. American dramas everyone cheats on everyone and they all have children with everyone
3. Asian dramas are clean compared to American
4. American dramas is almost like porn to a certain extent
hey all - yep i love all kinds of dramas doesnt matter what language the shows are in - would work perfectly if i knew every existing lang. lol. but for right now i only know 2. reality tv is not for me but i do watch other american shows - mostly comedy like psych, house, mind of mencia. i also like law and order CI (love det. Goren!), suv, csi - ny (danny is yummy!) lol. have u guys seen the drama soulmates - that was a nice one - wish the couple in that act together again. bcause even though i realize the need for lack of scenes between the main leads - i wanted more!

I get AZN TV and Imagine Asian network, both good places for Asian entertainment. However, they don't broadcast as many dramas as I'd like. It has a mix of everything: Movies, News, Documentaries, etc.
I also don't watch as many American shows, but my faves are: Heroes, Grey's Anatomy, Gilmore Girls, Fresh Prince & Cosby Show reruns.

I haven't been watching American TV much only started when my roommates watch TV. I only watch Bones, Grey's Anatomy, and Law and Order. I watch mostly Taiwanese, HK, Chinese, and Japanese drama. I find them more interesting and less draggy than American shows.
You're just like my twin sister and I. After discovering K-Dramas, we haven't been interested in some of the shows we used to watch. If I do pick up the remote (which is actually while I'm downloading a drama) I only watch those shows too.
Heroes was a bit underwhelming. Lost is more my drug of choice. I also watch battlestar galactica, house, and dr. who.jholic wrote:i have yet to watch 'heroes', but all my friends keep talking about it. i'll see if i can catch up with the eps later.
My problem with american dramas is also that they are way too long. It will be a great day when they can limit a good series to 3 seasons (planned, not axed)
New Yorker here!!!! In New York City we have the AZNTV but they call it Fujisankei (only shows a few shows from FujiTv (japan)) it kinda sucks though only Fuji news mon-friday at 7am and the good stuff like ainori, japonica, yama onna kabe onna and first kiss come on during the weekends from like 6pm-8pm. I was hoping they'd pick hana-kimi to show but meh they did finish liar game and watashitachi no kyokasho about 3 weeks ago. And then they show korean dramas on the same channel right before the japanese ones not really sure what the names are since i haven't really watched korean dramas the channel is included with cablevision but there is also a channel you can pay for called TVJapan but they only show NHK shows on itredsexxy wrote:hi,"Yari...we have the AZN channel here in San Jose ....it's included in our package when we subscribes to Comcastcable.Yarii wrote:Does anyone get the AZNTV channel? Ehhh?? We have an American thread? Haha I never knew that before!
Hello everyone! I'm from Orange County, California born and raised. Anyone else in here from OC?
I started watching dramas a couple of years ago. It began with Kdramas but after watching so many of them, it became really boring and repetitive and that's when I fell in love with Hana Yori Dango. So I switched to Jdramas and have never looked back since ! As well as anime.
I don't watch that much tv. The only show I watch religiously is THE OFFICE! I also watch (when I have time): Scrubs, Family Guy, Sex and the City & Friends reruns, and Discovery channel (mostly Mythbusters).. oh and football, I can never miss football GO COLTS!!
Do you guys prefer American, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese music?
As much as I love the Japanese culture, I can never give up listening to American music, well not just American music but any english speaking songs.
Favorite bands/singers:
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Oasis
- Arcade Fire
- Death Cab for Cutie / Postal Service
- Shins
- Pinback
- Nirvana
- Imogen Heap / Frou Frou
- Elliott Smith
- & many many others

i only watch heroes journeyman and smallsville csi law and order.what i just hate all the reality tv showing now. But what american shows due have is action thats the american drama (besides soap operas yuck.) I love Jdorama for its shows on love and life, KD for its love and evil people and misunderstandings, TW has its action and love, and CD has a little of all.

Omg I know. Smallville is already showing repeats. It's crazy. Oh well, I still have J-Dramas to fall back on. I'll just find ones I haven't watched yet.auroragb wrote:With the writer strike still on, soon there will be nothing left to watch
As far as the before mentioned question, I prefer Japanese and Korean Dramas to what they show in America.
I was thinking the same thing... I'm now dl-ing the Legend to watch since Heroes, Criminal Minds and such are all gone now. At least k and j dramas would keep me entertained through Christmas.auroragb wrote:With the writer strike still on, soon there will be nothing left to watch
