Tracker server down (solved)

Postby Ruroshin » Mon May 18, 2009 11:38 am

We're currently having problems with the Tracker server and our host provider so expect it to be down at least a day.

edit: ok got it back up for now. There will be a downtime tomorrow as I perform maintenance on it.

Performing maintenance on the tracker server. Uploads will be disable during this time and you may experience problems connecting to the tracker.

If you still want to be able to download torrents search for the show you want at isohunt.com

Now, I can't even find the tracker to upload anything. Can't find d-addicts.net hostname.

Edit: Ok, I google the IP address for d-addicts.net and was able to upload using this URL:
http://89.149.226.119:8080/d-control2/upload.htm

Edit Edit: I guess you can do the same thing for downloading, replace d-addicts.net with 89.149.226.119 in the URL.

Hmm, Firefox says IP 89.149.226.119 "has been reported as a web forgery". I tried it anyways and sure enough it works hehe.

Edit: Substituting the IP above works for the tracker page and Jem site as well. DNS issues?

It is at least a DNS issue. Both ns1.d-addicts.com and ns2.d-addicts.com are reporting "no record" for d-addicts.net. For some people, d-addicts.net is still cached in their DNS cache. For others who had their cache flushed or TTL'd out earlier, they can't re-lookup d-addicts.net.

I think it might be possible to download the dramas your looking for through isohunt.com if you cant get them from this tracker, atleast that's what I did to download "Boss"

www.d-addicts.net is coming back with a server failure, something worse than an NXD.

It appears that the A record for the site may have been poisoned or the zone file damaged.

Downloading the torrent file is only half the battle. Unfortunately, every torrent here has http://www.d-addicts.net:7979 embedded. If the PC can't resolve ww.d-addicts.net, having the torrent file is as useful as a pig's tail that has been washed (I have NO idea what that means - it is something I picked up as a kid.)

Dear groink,

thank you for your post and the giggle it gave me re the tail.....

I think it means no matter how much you wash the tail it is useless, because it will get dirty again very soon........

if the d-addicts.net server ISP is using DDNS that could be the cause of the problem.

DDNS and network self-discovery protocols sometimes have snafus when portions of the network or links go down.

I'm having trouble as well so I will use bittorrent and isohunt to get the episodes that I want. I'm sure d-addicts will resolve the issues that are occurring. I am done with my panic and will try d-addicts later this weekend.

For a temporary fix:

Add 89.149.226.119 to the HOSTS file on your PC. Instructions on how to do this (Windows XP or Vista):
http://help.hardhathosting.com/question.php/11

The entry would be:

Code: Select all

89.149.226.119 d-addicts.net
89.149.226.119 www.d-addicts.net

If you're running Vista and you can't edit HOSTS, use this:

Regarding Vista... It is different from XP and earlier versions. In XP, most people were admins of their own PCs because the default user upon installation were always admins. But starting with Vista, the default rights for the primary user was changed to "power users." Even though the user can install applications, he does not have full administrative access to the core elements of Vista. This is actually similar to how *nix and Mac OS X functions (root access.) The HOSTS file is very vital to the core TCP/IP stack within Windows, so that's why under Vista it is protected from the power users. With XP and earlier, there was too much malware and such that were able to modify HOSTS using the current user's rights (i.e. admin.) By protecting HOSTS from the power user, it provides for a better secured Vista.

Thanks for the workaround groink.
I was going through withdrawal.
Please everyone make sure you back up the hosts file to a thumb drive before you modify it.
You may have to change the properties of the hosts file from read only, I know I did, before it would let me change the file. Right click the hosts file choose properties and un check the read only box. Make your changes to the hosts file and then save your changes. After you have saved your hosts file changes reopen the hosts file properties and check the read only box again.

I'm neither. But with my experience, here's what needs to be done:

1. Outsource the DNS service! Host the domain and sub-domain names somewhere else. Hosting the DNS under the same roof as the sites themselves is not good practice.

2. The DNS software needs to be patched. Some of us believe the A-record was deleted because of a documented vulnerability found by a hacker. Actually, #1 would be the better route since most DNS providers do this sort of thing for a living, and so their servers should already be patched.

3. Use two different DNS services. In this case, if NS1 failed, then NS2 would kick in. It would be best to have NS1 and NS2 in two completely different regions of the Internet. For example, have one in Europe, and the other in Asia or North America.

4. As we spoke about in other topics, we should look more into tracker-less BT.

After spending X hours to create a administrator account and still not been able to change hosts I realised that it was on read only.
So I just went to propriety and uncheck the case and Miracle it works.

Thanks to groink for the tip

@Groink: Moving thier DNS servers to 2 different providers would increase costs so it's unlikely the admins will do it but your right it is good pratice

Took me 5 minutes to figure out what was going on with DA then I went to search for thier static IP, in the process I came across 2 interesting sites:

your hosts file in xp is read-only. so temporarily disable that to edit it. you are to open it with notepad and edit it then-i put the ip code under the 127.0.0.1 localhost line. you are to save the file with no extension -choose all files from the drop down. it wont work if you save it as a .txt for example.
once you saved changes, you may reenable read-only in the properties of the file and restart your browser.
works for me

Once you login as root, go to the home folder (named "root"), then hit Command-UpArrow twice. This should take you to the invisible /private folder, in which you will see the /private/etc folder.

You can edit the /private/etc/hosts file in any plain text editor, e.g., TextEdit in the Applications folder. No command line tools needed. :)

The entry would be:

Code: Select all

89.149.226.119 d-addicts.net
89.149.226.119 www.d-addicts.net

If you're running Vista and you can't edit HOSTS, use this:

In Windows XP the hosts file is located in the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc folder. A standard search will not include system folders or hidden files. You need to change those settings under Search Options >> Advanced Options in the search window.

Try restarting the computer. Are you sure the changes were saved? Sometimes the hosts file is set as Read-Only.

The hosts file should look like this.

Code: Select all

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

127.0.0.1       localhost
89.149.226.119 d-addicts.net
89.149.226.119 www.d-addicts.net

Hmm, why didn't I think of that hehe. :P

Also note that the file is named "hosts" with no file extension. Make sure the edited version is not being saved as "hosts.txt" or .doc etc

Thanks a lot Groink for you suggestion. Unfortunately, I'm a tech idiot and so afraid I'll delete any file from my PC that I can't dare to try your way. The only thing I can do is to wait patiently for this site's problem solved. :-(

Is the tracker problem already been solved? There's a lot of torrents with no uploaders and downloaders. I don't want to upload a file if people can't download because I have a slow internet connection and I can't seed for long.
Thank you.

If you already have the torrent file just add http://89.149.226.119:7979/announce to the list of trackers. To download the torrent file check the BNBT Tracker Info page by going to http://89.149.226.119:7979 and clicking on the "DL" next to your torrent.
