Closing down the torrent section

Postby Ruroshin » Wed Nov 19, 2014 10:24 am

Hi all, it's been a long time since I last posted and it's unfortunate that I have to post bad news after all this time. I will be closing the torrent section of the forum tomorrow for personal reasons.

Thanks you to all the uploaders, admins, moderators and members for making this place such a great place to share the love of Asian dramas. Without you guys there would be no D-Addicts.

The forum will still be up so you can still continue to discuss your favourite dramas and share subtitles and translations. So only the torrent forum will be closed.

Likewise the wiki of course will still be up as it is a valuable source of information.

Thanks to everybody again. :salut:

Usoo... Can't be help, I hope nothing but the best. :salut:

EDIT: I just want to say thank you very much to faithful uploaders for all of your hard work, it's really fun and will always be fun to be part of d-addicts.
This is the only place I know to download jdrama, I love d-addicts and don't think there will be "2nd d-addicts" for me. My brain got paused, I just want crying out love in the center of the world  :faint:

Very sad news indeed. It's been a wonderful experience uploading here and just wish you all the best.

For me there is no D-A without the torrent section.

Goodbye.

Very sad news indeed.
I'm shocked. I don't know what i will be doing.
For me D-A always was the best place to obtain j-doramas. And I don't want to upload my stuff anywhere else.
Does it mean that just torrent files will be deleted or full "Torrent comments" section will be gone?
There's a lot of stuff which was released only on d-addicts. Torrents might be dead but if this section will gone there's no chance to know that it ever existed.
Looking for volunteers, who want to transcribe subtitles for some old dramas. (Yonigeya Honpo, Sweet Home and others)
More details here.

I wish it was April 1st now.

Wow, that was a surprise. With the torrents section, I'm afraid that the website will die in time. And like many others I wouldn't like to see that.

I would be willing to help out if there would be some kind of replacement.

I think the people in Japan will suffer the most as around 70% to 80% who depend on Jdramas is from there.

Where will they go now?

I respect furransu for his work.
His blog is very convenient to track currents season doramas.
But I can't imagine all D-A torrents in the same format.

Asiatorrents is closed tracker with ratio.
So most people can't use it.

Sad to see the torrent section go, but hopefully the torrent comment section remains intact, otherwise the Completed Drama section on the Fansub Wiki will need to be slowly removed, since the info is already outdated.

I don't think donation will solve the problem. I may be wrong but I think it's more likely a take down notice or DMCA letter. We'll never know for sure what's the "Personal reasons" Ruroshin mentioned.

Huge thanks to everyone that worked and uploaded in the D-A torrents section.

Shame you have to, cos now everyone's gunna leave and never come back to D-A, am I right? I certainly won't be coming back when the torrents close. I was always very appreciative of the uploaders and such and understand how much work going into torrents and even subbing and for this massive chunk to go now, kinda does feel like a kick in my nuts. But anyway,

Thank you! And I will take my leave off D-A now.

I agree, most of the peers I connect to are from japan and other asian nations.

This site got me into jdramas so many years ago and now it'll be just a memory. I'm not sure what to feel now.

I think you have to say at least a reason to why you're doing it. You can't simply say "personal reason", mostly because you said TOMORROW. How can you act like that so fast without tell a reason?

Personal Reasons is understood as "I don't want to talk about it". There might be circumstances that prevent him from talking about it, we don't know anything and if he doesn't want to say what the reasons are that's fine, give him his privacy and let him do what he needs to do.

Maybe if you tell us the reason, we could help as much as we could.
Afterall, this site is contribution of lots of people.
Its like their hardwork goes to waste.
It takes lots of effort to upload, seed, etc etc.
Some has to rip, do hardsub, etc.
Thx :D

so sad to hear this :/
is there any way out for this situation?
like instead of totally closing it, we make it to become member-locked
thus for non member the torrent section won't be accessible?
or just like Avallac'h said, move the torrent section into other domain/server
and announce it to all member where to find it?

anyway, thank you to all the uploaders & subbers for all of your great work until now :salut: :salut: :salut:

Although understandable that you're disappointed, if Ruroshin says it's finished, then it's finished. there's no demanding.
Let's be grateful for the years we got to enjoy D-Addicts as it was, and start looking for solutions.

Like I said... there might be circumstances that prevent him from talking about it, legal or otherwise. If he was going to give a reason as to why, he would have done it in the OP.

So sad to hear this. =(
Thank you for all the hard work!
The only positive thing I can see from closure of torrent section is that those leechers (aka gooddrama.net and the like) will have to look for other source.

For all Japanese drama lovers, jdramacity.blogspot.com.au has torrents for almost all Japanese dramas. If you're looking for Japanese movies and other japaanese dramas, you can try plotboxes.livejournal.com (but you have to join the community and must have a livejournal account).

Thanks dorawan89 for the hotman batches.
You can post the last batch to Nyaa, TokyoToshokan or even PirateBay if they are accesible to you. If possible in a free tracker so more people can enjoy your work.

It's such a short notice, feels like being struck by lightning, but I really appreciate the notification. Imagine coming to DA and having the torrent section closed without notice, that would just be too much. I'm not gonna lie that I didn't shed tears when I read the notification, but I'd like to thank all the moderators, uploaders, and everyone here, without you all I wouldn't be able to enjoy Jdramas that I love so much. Otsukaresamadeshita..

If there's something we can do to help preventing this to happen, please do share, but if there's no other way, I just hope for three things.

I hope people can still access previous torrents (fat chance it's not gonna happen, eh?)

Since the forums will still be up, I hope that fansubber will still continue subbing and posting the subs here, even if we have to obtain the raws elsewhere (God, I really pray for this one).

And the reason is not because take down notice or DMCA letter, as if it really was, then it's just a matter of time that optional sites like Asiatorrent and Furransu's to receive the same request, God forbid.

Thanks Ruroshin and everyone else that have contributed to this site over the years. If it wasn't for this site, I don't think I would ever get back into jdramas again.

I guess it was a matter of time before something like this would happen and I hope your personal issues can be resolved.

\( -o _ o- )/ wrote:I don't think donation will solve the problem. I may be wrong but I think it's more likely a take down notice or DMCA letter. We'll never know for sure what's the "Personal reasons" Ruroshin mentioned.

I remember a couple of years ago, Ruroshin had mentioned something about getting take down notices. Because of those notices, the torrent section removed the UL/DL totals but everything else stayed the same until now.

Anya2186 wrote:I mean, I don't want to know every single detail about his reason, just a reason. If someone is closing just the day after he said it, I need, no I want, a reason.

Good luck trying to get that information because if someone doesn't want to talk about it, then that pretty tells you that they don't want to give out those reasons. Simple answer to all of this: Respect their decision and give them privacy :thumright:

ndoeyc wrote:And the reason is not because take down notice or DMCA letter, as if it really was, then it's just a matter of time that optional sites like Asiatorrent and Furransu's to receive the same request, God forbid.

What makes you think it wasn't take down notices or DCMA that would cause the torrent pages to disappear? Just because the other sites weren't targets doesn't mean they could potentially be in the future. Nothing is safe :)

D-Addicts is like a library: Most of the resources are there, you just have to search around!

This is indeed so sad.

Heartfelt thanks to all those who've patiently uploaded torrents day in and day out for us Asian drama addicts.

I have so many completed drama batches with incomplete subs. Hoping fervently that subbing of all of them
won't get abandoned.

I am very sad to hear this, but thanks for all your years of hard work. Even if it ends suddenly, it was all worth it.

Well, one can only hope. But honestly, I know very well that no site like DA or other similar sites is safe but I'm always in denial..

@Ruroshin
Any chance you can create an archive of the torrents we can download so they are not completely lost? I remember you were going to do that when the tracker was shutdown.
Also, we do really need some kind of clarification as to what exactly is closing. You said "torrent section" but is that just the "Drama" page or does that also include the "Torrent Comments" subforum? Will we not allowed to post links to torrents in case we wanted to turn the discussion threads into release threads?

@All
Does anyone know of an efficient automated way to dowload all the torrents for archving?

Sad news :( But thank you for everything up until now :)

Hopefully people that are generous enough to sub dramas will continue to post these here :)

I suppose that all good things must come to an end someday.

I am a relative newcomer to the j-dorama scene and the D-Addict torrents were my number ONE place to get video and subtitles.

From a personal perspective I will miss not being able to finish Oshin and Massan unless some kind folk can PM me an alternative means. I will also especially miss Heiwa Fansubs, Avallac'h and many other uploaders.

Thank you for these past few years for me and for the many years before I joined.

This is quite a shock, but with more and more sites going down I guess it was a matter of time.

Thanks, Ruroshin, for all the years of being there I'm really going to miss you.

Guys, I don't mean to sound rude, but you're all making it sound like the entire site is being shutdown. While having the torrent section being shut-off is a tad inconvenient, there's still plenty of options for hosting torrents, even if it might mean using public trackers. People are still going to be sharing translations and subs here, just need to relocate where the raws/muxed videos are.

I haven't been on this site for a long time, but I also think that this was the best place for J-dramas as they were unavailable where I live.
Thank you so much to all of you for having made it possible for us to discover and enjoy these dramas!

There are many, many more Guests here at D-Addicts than Registered Users.
Sharing becomes pretty darn fast with these large numbers.

We already went through something like this before when the D-Addicts tracker was shutdown. This is actually worse than that. There is alot more involved.

I am devastated by this news. Thanks, Ruroshin, for all your efforts in supporting the torrents over the years.

I have the feeling that the heat (if that is what is behind the shutdown) will now be directed toward furransu's site so we all need to support it in whatever way we can. Regarding asiatorrents as an alternative, it looked to me like much of the jdrama content was copied from d-addicts.

How depressing! :-(

 I guess we can't do anything about this.

I hope you are just going to remove the torrents. Deleting the whole section would definitely be a big loss. Maybe you could leave it open as an archive where we can look up information about dramas and subs. If there are attachments like subtitles please back them up.

DA is/was the central hub for dramas for me. I really don't know where to go now. I know some sites but none is comparable to DA.

Thanks for keeping DA (with torrents) up until now. Big thanks to all uploaders too.

Postby knotcross » Wed Nov 19, 2014 8:02 pm

Where do we go for here? Anyone have a link to other sites? I know of one and can post it if that's alright.
You have done a monumental job with this site we are grateful for your hard work and dedication.

...um...wow...okay...

I was under the impression that d-addicts now just indexes the torrents and doesn't have it's own tracker, so what legal grounds would there be to shut down the site?

Like there's literally 4500 pages of torrents from all the way back to 2004, where else are we gonna find such a centralized index for Asian drama torrents? The closing of d-addicts means the majority of those torrents will end up dying.

This is shockingly abrupt. If this really goes down, let me know if anyone is planning on making a new (and safer) public indexing site for Asian dramas...
