What player are you using?
I don't think the sub file works if you change the file name to srt.
Try to play it with ass file.
I know Windows media player and The KM player works with ass file, so
whatever you are using doesn't work with ass file, try those players.

Yes, I've been using the subs with the 1280x720 version and they work completely fine.

Thanks for the subs, Chuks.

I do have one suggestion for improvement, though… When the characters in the show say a name, I'd really prefer the subtitles to show exactly what they say—because even if I'm reading subtitles, I am still listening to the spoken dialogue. So if I hear them say "Surname + Personal Name," it grates on my nerves to see just "Personal Name" in the subtitles (or worse, no reference to the name at all). It seems rude, somehow.

I don't know if that bothers other people. Maybe not. Maybe it's just me.

Either way, I very much preferred the way you handled names in Episodes 1-5, and I wish you'd go back to it. To be honest, I'd also like to see the "-san" or "-sensei" (or whatever) included, too—but that omission doesn't bother me nearly as much as seeing a personal name in the subtitles when it was a surname in the dialogue.

Of course, I'll download your subs no matter how you choose to handle the names—and I'll be grateful for them too, I assure you. But my 'Vote' is still for Accurate Names, for whatever it's worth.

Anyway, it's just a suggestion. Do with it what you will; and in any event, thanks for your work! It is very much appreciated.

It's mentioned in the first post but I also prefer the way you handled the names in episodes 1-5 cause I have to think for a second to remember what their first names are.

Tao Libra,

I suggest reading my first post again.
You have to keep in your mind some people are not familiar with Japanese culture or Japanese name,
so if one line says "Mineko" and then the next line says "Mitsui" and then a line after that says "the victim",
some people get confused.
(Same as "Tamiko", "Yoshioka", "Yoshioka Tamiko", "Koji" "Tachibana" "Koji Tachibana")
Since some of the lines are long in this drama, and it's essential to know exactly who they are talking about,
simplifying to first-name basis helps people to understand dialog without thinking twice.
As for as the lines you think I fail to reference names, tell me exactly which line.
I'm sure I have an explanation for that. I'm not sure how familiar you are with Japanese, but Japanese people often use
names instead of "you'"she""he" so you hear a lot of names.
For when I omit names besides that case, usually they sound unnatural to put the name in the line, or it makes no difference.
Japanese tend say "What do you think, Brian?" instead of simply saying "What do you think?" during a conversion of just two so;
1) that makes no difference, and 2) that can be annoying to read sometimes.

In regards to your suggestion to use "san""sensei", that doesn't directly translate into English.
The closest translation would be something like "Mr." or "Mrs." but sometimes that is awkward. Therefore,
since these are 'English' subs I don't translate it.

And I suggest you start using PM when you opinion about somebody's subs, since it can be stressful to some subbers,
and worse it can drive the subbers to quit subbing. It's a matter of courtesy.

For episode 1-5, there weren't many confusing names, so we didn't need to go with first-name basis.
As much as I hate changing subbing style in the middle of project, there were many confusing names on episode 6,
so we decided to switch.
I made the chart to refer the first names. You can find it on my first post.

I was using VLC. I upgraded and the subs work perfectly.
Thanks so much for taking the time out for subbing Shinzanmono. He's a little bit detective and little bit psychoanalyst. The people in this neighborhood are something special, lol.

I think what Tao means, is that if you could add the san or sensei or sama, not translate it.

Btw thank you very much for your subs, keep up the good work! gambate!

Thank you for subbing this good drama, Shinzanmono is also, like many detective dramas, more difficult to understand without subs than the average for... average Japanese learners :D So, please keep sharing your skills with us :)

Hey Chuks!
Just wanted to first off thank you heaps for your efforts with this show! I'm still a longshot from being able to watch these kinds of shows without subtitles haha.

Secondly, I was wondering if there was anyone out there willing to retime the subtitles for episode 4 (and possibly onwards..? I have yet to DL episode 5+) for the 1080p releases. The subtitles are rather out of sync, and I'm afraid I'm quite the noob when it comes to these things :(

どうもありがとうございます!

I'll do it someday but no promises, as I'm a very newbie timer, and I am sure someone else can do it faster & better than I, so eventually if no one did, I will ^^;; just no promises...

I did not even watch ep 8 & 9 and that is how busy my life is these days *sighs*

I actually do mind.
