I will have to go on vacation before the final episode is scheduled to be aired,
so I won't be able to sub it until I come back from vacation.
It'll be around middle of January.
I hate making people wait for especially final episode, but I have no choice.
I apologize for it in advance.

Hi Chuks
Please have a well-deserved vacation. All of us knows the painstaking effort that you've put in so far. The mind and the body has to be in sync - so the end result?...a quality product. We are ready for you when you are all set and systems go..the wait ,,well..is of course worth it..

I kinda get a tinge of trepidation when it's already coming to end for Fumo Chitai..the climax is killing me!!

Subs for ep06 is up.

I love this episode personally.

I read interview of Karasawa Toshiaki (he plays Iki Tadashi).
He said he lost 8kg for the role even though the director didn't ask him to.
He just drunk juice twice a day for two weeks.
I can never do that...

dmatrix95, the interview I read is from the official guide book of Fumo Chitai
and it's written in Japanese.
Since the article is very long, unfortunately I can't post it.

Thanks for your nice posts, MaidFaiman. :)
I always enjoy reading your posts. :)
Merry Christmas to you, too.:)

I'm watching ep08 right now and it's getting heated.
This drama isn't getting good ratings. Apparently, it's too difficult for even Japanese, especially for female viewers.
To gain better ratings, the Fuji TV aired a show in which a female comedian Mitsuura
and two female tv personalities discussed about how cool male casts are on the drama, to
appeal to female viewers.
I wish they didn't do that. It's so desperate lol
It's a shame that such a good drama isn't recognized well.

I feel fortunate to be able to sub this drama, since these days the quality of dramas are low.
I live in USA for almost 6 years now, but my English is still far from perfect.
My good friend, who is an engineer, checks my subs. He deserves all the credits.
He knows well about airplanes and cars, so you can expect quality subs regarding those subjects.
And, I would have missed some details without Japanese subs qop123 is providing.
So I really appreciate him too.

I'll leave on 23rd. Until then, We'll keep providing subs. :)

Did I mention before that I like your avatar? Especially Samejima's face.
He is a great actor. He played a totally opposite character on Shiroi Haru and he was also believable. That was a great drama, too.

It is both.
Language wise and content wise.
Iki is a very capable man and ladies like him. He is an ideal to many business men in Japan. Naturally, guys like it.
But for women, it's nothing but a story of men-oriented business world. And it happens fifty years ago. It's not appealing.
The drama uses many unfamiliar words, and it is alienating young generation.

And, you're welcome. :)

Yes you did. :lol
The idea for my avatar was literally taken from the official site. But somehow or rather it's not displaying anymore. And I wonder if it's a browser issue or something to do with the messaged displayed below... :fear:
Yeah I second Endo Kenichi being a great actor. I notice him doing a fair amount of narration work in documentaries and CMs too, like the mention of sponsors in (currently aired drama) Jin.
And thanks for the explanation!

I didn't know he was doing narration. It's interesting.
I like Jin.
Since subbing takes a lot of my time, I am at ep03 right now,
but I'm downloading it and planning to finish watching it.

Right now, all I can think about is my vacation! :p

..humming to Belinda Carlisle GOGOS classic ditty -...Vacation is all Chuks ever wanted...-;-)

Chuks - i second chokubi's take on your humility..definitely a Japanese trait; like almost all Japanese i've come across! btw, i;m also watching JIN(another great drama). Had introduced this to a doctor friend and he in turn; told the rest of his doc-mates about JIN in the hospital he works!
I can understand the low-ratings of Fumo Chitai - the 'heavy' factor of the drama is a turn-off. After a hard day's work; I believe common people wants something simple to digest - anything that takes a 'rocket science' dissection; they would rather go to sleep or hit the pacinko parlours, agreed?

I can already see the 'Highway to Airport' neon signs in the midst.Chuks, can you?.Passport/VISA checked?

Thanks for ep 7 Chuks and enjoy your holiday! Its sad that the ratings are bad for Fumo Chitai. We need more realistic and well acted doramas like this instead of the usual idol fueled doramas.

I also had the pleasure of using your subs for Aishiteru and I thank you again for another great worK on a very interesting project.
I particularly enjoy the notes that shed additional light on what is going on.

One question : How are Noh actors supposed to be since Koyuki's character is surprised by the personality of her omiai partner ? Are they notorious assholes ?

Notorious assholes lol

I'm not an expert of those cultural things, so I'll tell you from my point of view.
If anybody has better knowledge, feel free to comment on this.

Not just Noh actors, but actors for traditional plays like Kabuki, Kyogen... they are from
very traditional families.
People in general perceive those actors somewhat arrogant since they have a big pride
and are in a high social class.
Yasuo's character is down-to-earth, and also nontraditional.
He said he wants his wife to have a job.
Usually, when you marry with traditional actor, you are expected to focus on
taking care of her husband and have a boy who can succeed the family business.
Especially back in days, women were expected to stay home and raise kids,
so it was very surprising for Koyuki.

I hope I answered your question.

^^ Thank you !

Although, I know the reality of post-war Japan was a lot grittier and tragic but I enjoy this show's description of the mentality and atmosphere of the time.

I just watched Ningen no Joken, again, and Fumo Chitai is a great continuation as if Kaji had actually made it back home.

I assumed it would be 11 episodes since the drama wiki said so,

I have a little question concerning the translation of フォーク. In the last two episodes you used Folk instead of the previous Fork (logically referred to Ford), but in episode 9 Iki writes with the typewriter a letter addressed to Mr. Fork (14:30 min:sec). Why?

Because japanese often assimilate the "R" sound with the "L" sound.
fo-ru-ku : can be folk or fork - you don't know it until you see it write like you told. Or when it makes sense in a sentence. Here it's a name :)
It reminds me the movie "Lost in translation" :
"Lip my stockings, lip them !"
"Lip what ?"

Yes, I know. I simply asked because it was written in the same episode. No polemic intent, the translation is the best I've ever seen.

P.S. Amami has a good scene in the lift.

Haha, I didn't even notice that.

At the Detroit Airport, you can see the advertisement of Folk on the wall,
and it spelled Folk. Also, Mr. Folk's privet jet has "Folk" in the body.

So, it's Folk.
I don't know why he spelled Fork.

Haha, I didn't even notice that.

At the Detroit Airport, you can see the advertisement of Folk on the wall,
and it spelled Folk. Also, Mr. Folk's privet jet has "Folk" in the body.

So, it's Folk.
I don't know why he spelled Fork.

Let me take it back.
It was Fork.

Somehow, it did look like Folk to me.
Srry about that.

Don't worry. You're doing an excellent work (subliminal message -"Sub Kemonomichi, sub Kemonomichi"- end of the subliminal message).

True :p

Welcome back. As i rewatched ep09 yesterday i got to admit the quality of the subs is very good. Just one thing is about the english talking parts not subtiled, i know it's a little bit more work but it's sometimes difficult to understand when you're not used to listen to it.

Haha. We were back in middle of January.
I just didn't post right away. Problem with internet connection, our baggage were
lost, catching up with work, getting over jet lag...

Just to make sure that I get my expectations right, how long does it take to sub an hr's show?

Jeez man! Don't be such an ingrate. You are getting something for free! You should be grateful that Chuks is doing the subtitles at all much less on your schedule...

Thanks Chuks for your work on this. I am thoroughly enjoying this as are so many others if the number of comments are any measure.

Because like every other fansubber, Chuks gets paid handsomely by d-addicts to produce subs for everyone in a timely manner right? Oh wait... :roll
