Just picked up this show (just random selection, didn't know what it was or what to expect from it ;) ). Surprisingly fun so far. :)

Subs are good too, didn't spot any major problem and they are easy to follow. Keep up the good work. It's appreciated! :notworthy:

I just happened to get a fan-made trailer of this drama. Its file size is 49 MB, and video length is 1 minute and 55 seconds. If someone wants to get it, PM me.

Thanks for waiting! Episode 5 is now up! This episode had a few language jokes so I'm hoping I was able to do a decent job with them without making anyone sound too out of character.

A quick note about raws, I had a feeling jdramacity wasn't going to last this whole show so I had actually already switched to Dark Angels' raws here. Fortunately, this show doesn't have any commercials so the sub file should work for pretty much any raw, but please let me know if anything needs to be re-timed.

Translation and other miscellaneous notes beneath the spoiler:
- "dono" is a title similar to "sama" that I translate several different ways in this drama. It's title of address for someone very respectable and is essentially the equivalent of "Lord," "Lady," or "Sir" as in like calling a knight 'Sir Percival." Sometimes I translate it and sometimes I just leave it depending on my own personal preference. Sorry if that bothers anyone!

- The bands on Yui's legs are for tying her greaves on her shins.

- Fish formation essentially looks like a Christmas tree (triangle with a stump) and the arrow point formation pictures that I found normally all looked like an actual arrow. I'm not sure why they made it just look like a line. Both formations are "pointed" formations good for piercing an enemy line.

- An equerry might not be the right exact word for Yui's job, but her job is basically to take care of Wakagimi's horse and be the person who leads it everywhere. It's a step-up from a foot soldier grunt since she'll be closer to Wakagimi, but not like an extremely honorable position or anything.

- Fuku's song/poem for Wakagimi is meant to be his epiphany that 1. Yuinosuke is Fuku (Fuku didn't want to stay with him because she stunk from being a foot soldier) and 2. that the girl he likes is currently working surrounded by flies and horse poo in his stable. I originally thought it was just a really lousy poem lol

- As far as I understand, cold water ablutions are like an extreme form of prayer because they involve purifying rites that are generally very exhaustive. In addition to dousing oneself with cold water as you pray, it could involve starving yourself, not sleeping, standing under a waterfall for extended periods of time, etc...

Enjoy~~

Episode 6 is finally up! And it's got lots of cutie-pie Kentaro in it :D:D It also has a lot of my favorite pairing in this show. I wonder if anyone can guess what it is~

Notes under the spoiler:
- Takeru progresses from addressing Yui as a casual "Onee-chan" to "Onee-sama" and then finally "Aneue-sama." This is his way of showing his newfound respect for his sister now that he's gotten a taste of what she must be dealing with in the Sengoku era. I think he also likes to use "Aneue-sama" because he's caught the "Wakagimi Bug" and wants to talk like he's a Sengoku person now, too lol

- Modern Japanese has 3 different alphabets: Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Katakana is a newer alphabet that was created primarily for use with foreign loan words. Nowadays it's often used for English terms, emphasis (like italics), and slang. A lot of manga is written with Katakana so that's why Wakagimi thought the comic was like some kind of dangerous secret code or something. I apologize for the manga translations being weird. It goes from a British dialect, to something a preteen girl would say, and then more ghetto-like talk... I tried to keep it to one kind of dialect but it was too hard for me.

- The t-shirt actually says "Meat-eater" or "carnivore" but it's a term that is normally used to describe a person that is proactively aggressive in romance, kind of like a romance go-getter. They aren't afraid to make the first move and will do whatever they can to make it clear to the person they like that they like them and want to go out with them. There was no similar term in English for this that didn't include a negative connotation (like skirt-chaser or player) so I just changed it to "Ladies' Man." Yui is actually a perfect example of this type of person in that she's always doing whatever she can to be near Wakagimi without caring about what anyone else says or thinks. The joke though is that Takeru is the complete opposite so the t-shirt was a bit of a cruel present for him.

- One of the most defining aspects of a samurai that sets them apart from simply being a soldier/warrior, is there very strict honor code and sense of pride. A samurai was one of the most respectable positions in Japan, even during times of peace, because of this. Wakagimi's choice to address Takeru as a samurai, even though he's never really fought before, is his way of acknowledging that he feels that Takeru is just as honorable and respectable as a fellow samurai. Takeru telling him the truth would prove that he also possesses a strong sense of honor.

Releases might be slower now because Dark Angel doesn't really upload the raws for this show very quickly. I'll see what I can do with finding another raw so that I can at least work on the subtitles in the meantime.

I hope you enjoy the episode!

No, since NHK dramas aren't part of the streaming "portal". The AOZ files are webrips. Nothing to rip so.

Thanks for the new sub.

I also wondered (or worried) about the missing RAW for ep7. I checked the Japanese wikipedia entry and the episode was already broadcasted according to that information. Usually it doesn't take that long for a RAW to appear. Let's hope for the best! :)

Thank you so much for eps 1-6! I just finished catching up with this show and I'm so into it, even more than I expected to be! They're doing a time-travel romance so well, I love all the recent development of Wakagimi and his acceptance of the modern world. It's really great to see the two lead characters each getting the chance to appreciate each other for who they are, can't wait until we get to see them reunited again! I'm so glad you're subbing this!

Calling all Kentaro fans~

I know this isn't exactly Ashi Girl related, but our Wakagimi actor has been doing promotions for his first starring role movie and I had an uncontrollable urge to translate one of the Line Lives he did for it. I found the combo of him and Kanata really adorably awkward and cute. For anyone interested, you can find it subbed on Youtube here.

It was pretty difficult to sub since there was a combination or mumbling, talking while eating, dialects, etc... but I think it's overall pretty accurate. If anyone has a better translation for anything though let me know.

As for Ashi Girl, it's on the way, I promise! This time of year is just super hectic and busy so I don't have a lot of time to work on it, but it's coming along slowly but surely. Rest assured, I have not and will not be dropping it. I hope you all can forgive me for my little break to sub this Kentaro vid instead.

Episode 7 is finally up! Thank you so so much for being so patient during the long wait. I only have Christmas left to prepare for now so hopefully I can pick the pace up a bit.

Also, shockingly enough I have no notes for this episode other than that probably all the lines in the preview are going to get changed.

As an aside, for those of you that haven't seen the Kentaro interview thingy I subbed yet, I made it too easy for the copyright bots on YT so feel free to PM me for the file if you missed it and want to watch it.

I hope you all enjoy episode 7!

Thank you Grrrcat for subbing episodes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
Once in a great while the actors, script, and director will turn a Saturday afternoon kids show
into something to keep, and share with others who are hungry for Theater.

Hello! I just created an account to say thank you very much for subbing this! I came across this show and decided to give it a try because I like Kentaro and Yuina. I fell in love!!! Knowing that I had a new episode to watch every night made my day bearable, I knew I could count on Wakagimi-sama to cheer me up.
Please continue subbing Ashi Girl!!!!

Grrrcat, you said:
This is a historical drama so everyone in the Sengoku period talks different than people in the modern era. I figured if I made everyone speak in old Shakespearean English it might be overkill, so please just imagine that people in the Sengoku era talk like they are in medieval times or something.
Thank you for taking language in Ashi-Girl seriously. Formal-speak is full of information about the speaker, the listener, the context. Your notes alert us to particular instances, then you let it go, and present those ideas directly, in a language free of empty phrases. Thank you.
D-Addicts has a history of respecting original translators/editors/subtitlers. If you can find time to finish this great start in the next few months, please do, I will patiently look forward to that time.

Has this project been abandoned? That would be very disappointing as it is such a wonderful show. If it has, can someone pick up the subbing the rest of the episodes?

MOD
You MUST start at the beginning and not upload from where another group is currently at. The exception to this rule is if the existing project has been dropped, confirmed by the individual/subber or group working on it and they have agreed for you to continue from where they left off. Otherwise, if the thread title has been marked as dropped by a moderator, are you then allowed to continue.

If it looks like the individual/subber or group have abandoned a subtitle project, and you have tried contacting them with no response whatsoever, are you then allowed to continue from where the individual/group has last posted their subtitles. However, please allow 3 months before resuming what appears to be an abandoned project (based on the user's last post or login date), as the original subber may be busy with work life.

It's been a loooong time coming but episode 8 is finally up! I apologize for the wait everyone and thank you so much for your kind support and patience. Life happens. I've said it before and i'll say it again, I have no intentions of dropping this show. Releases will continue to come even if they aren't lickity-split. Episode 9 is already in progress as well.

Note: For some reason, the darkangels raw for this episode didn't work in aegisub for me this time so I had to sub this using a stream rip. I think it should work for everyone else and the timing should still be okay, but if it doesn't let me know.

Translation Notes:
- The joke in the beginning with bestowed and esteemed is because there is a certain line in Japanese that is used pretty much exclusively in historical mangas and such to mean "It's an honor to be in your presence." However, Yui doesn't have a good memory and mixed up the words so she ended up saying silly nonsense instead :)

- I'm not 100% certain about the poem that the Kanegae princess recited since classical Japanese + poetry = big confusing mess for me. Essentially she just wrote another poor quality/cheesy poem about how much she misses Wakagimi.

- The "ridiculous characters" and "was he trying to write a poem" comment about Yui's note for Wakagimi was I believe because Yui either wrote in modern day hiragana and kanji or tried to mimic classical Japanese. Classical Japanese can look pretty illegible to many modern people and it's even worse in poem form since it's intentionally made even more squiggly lined for the sake of artistic style. However, of course to a medieval time period person, Yui's writing probably looked very strange as well (but still understandable).

- The "it pisses me off" line was one of the worst lines for me to translate and I'm still not 100% happy with it. Yui says 嫌だ ("iya da") which basically means, "no," "i don't like it,' "I don't want to," etc... However, it's a modern day term so I needed to turn it into a phrase that sounds more slang-like. I interpreted her use of it as her way of saying she's jealous so I settled with "pisses me off" even though people don't normally say that while bawling... Also, when Wakagimi repeats it afterwards I added a note in the subs to clarify that he's most likely referring to how he got angry and jealous himself when Yui was in his brother's room. This is a broad term so it's possible it could have had other meanings like Yui saying she didn't like the Kanegae princess or Wakagimi saying he didn't like being separated from her, but I thought the jealousy theme was the most appropriate interpretation here.

Enjoy the episode~
