These are transcriptions from hard subbed episodes. The last 30 will be done on a weekly basis. Episodes 16 - 19 were "catch up" since the poster was on hiatus for the month of June.
Translations by MTI.
English subtitles trascribed from hardsubebd TVrip provided by Saburo. Thank you!

I hope this stupid boring arc with the thieves will end soon.
I've got tired of them.
This is what I feared when I told I did not expect much from Naotora.

Atsuhime was a great Taiga. My hope is that Naotora will get more interesting. Hana Moyu is the only female lead Taiga that I did NOT complete. Gou and Yae were okay. But this is only my own opinion.
Thanks for continuing to sub this.

Please continue subbing this story. We have watched all of the Taigas made since 1999 and a few from before that at least three times and just finished watching "Atsuhime " for the fifth time. They all have some parts that are boring, but they are "docu-dramas" about the main characters life story. When you spread a persons life story out over 52 episodes there are going to be some dry spells.

Thanks & question about music

Postby Aethera » Sat Jul 29, 2017 8:29 am

First of all thank you so much for subbing this incredible drama. I can't believe you guys do this work without compensation. You are helping to improve the spirit of humanity by making such great art available to a much wider audience.

I have a question: Does anyone know what the solo violin piece in the epilogue of episode 13 is? At first it sounded a lot like Bach but I checked and it is not from his Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin. Nor is it a transcribed version of one if his cello sonatas. Perhaps it is a transcription of a work for another instrument or by another composer entirely. I would love to know so that I can find the sheet music otherwise I might be tempted to try and score it with Finale.

That's amazing that you've watched so many. I think one of my first Taiga dramas was Hojo Tokimune. I think I saw Atsuhime when it was aired on a Japanese station in the states. Such a great drama.

I think it's a thing with dramas in general that there are natural ups and downs. Things cannot always be gripping moments. But when you hang on through a drama and trust the writers and the actors you will be rewarded with some precious moments when the actors come alive. There are also those memorable characters that stick with you. I'll never forget Ikushima in Atsuhime. How wonderfully she played that part! Also the opium-pipe smoking lady in the ooku - forget what her name was - but just one of those lasting impressions you can't forget. I'll also never forget one scene in particular in Atsuhime when she's at her peak of power in the ooku and she comes out adorned in the most breaktaking garments and all the ladies are just totally bedecked. Amazing stuff. It kind of makes me jealous that we don't have something like this in the west.

Maybe this is helpful, you can look up OSTs at Amazon Japan and listen to short clips of each song.

Onna Joushu Naotora OST 2

Main music composer is Kanno Yoko

Looks like the epilogue piece is not part of the soundtrack based on the instrumentation listed for the OST tracks at Amazon.

Yes was surprised to see Yoko composing soundtrack for a Taiga drama. She's really been expanding. I think I once read that she taught herself piano. As a piano student myself, if that's true it's pretty amazing.

I realize that.
The main problem is that Naotora is not the character for 50 eps long taiga.
Usual 10-12 episode drama about her is probably would be much better.

Thank you for all the hard work! I've already seen the episodes 24 to 28 but unfortunately my Japanese is still basic at best so my understanding of the plot is limited hahaha.
I have a question, do you guys have the japanese subtitles from which you translate, or are you doing everything by ear? Cause I've tried to search for the Japanese subtitles, but I've come up empty handed.

The music you are looking for only got a digital release. You can find it on many Japanese websites, and on iTunes Japan. I think it's called "Ritsu":
https://itunes.apple.com/jp/album/%E5%B ... 85461?l=en

They also released the full version of "Tora no Kiba" (the choir song):
https://itunes.apple.com/jp/album/%E8%9 ... 54613?l=en

And an alternative version of "Utai Kei" where Kou sings the whole thing:
https://itunes.apple.com/jp/album/%E8%A ... 54868?l=en

And finally more recently they released Ryuunmaru's theme, "Nora":
https://itunes.apple.com/jp/album/%E3%8 ... 40955?l=en

And I'd also like to deeply thank Avallac'h for his/her work!

Please be patient. Avallac'h does a lot of great work for all of us, and not just on this show, see "Dokuganryu Masamune" and others, and all for no pay. I for one, would be happy to pay for this work if there was a way to do so, and am more than willing to wait patiently for the subs to come up.

Please be patient. Avallac'h does a lot of great work for all of us, and not just on this show, see "Dokuganryu Masamune" and others, and all for no pay. I for one, would be happy to pay for this work if there was a way to do so, and am more than willing to wait patiently for the subs to come up.

I don't care If he payed or not this is not charity every click on this site means money if they cant use advertisement that is their problem. All of the sites are the same they are kind a lazy when it comes to translate because they earn more money because we check this sites every day for updates. And speaking for this drama they don't even translate they just take it from kiku tv broadcast. There will be time when my country dramas will be popular then I will see people begging for me to translate but nooo let them wait. Be patient I say because I work for free. Because I cant put advertisement to the site. and watching dramas online is not copy right at all. every one is here so pure and patient. I am the only dark one so be it. :cussing:

This will be my last answer to you.
You're not my boss and not paying me money. So stop demanding after every "delay".
Subs will be done. This is all you need to know.

Kanasia You have been given 1 warning. If you keep behaving the way you are you'll get a ticket out of here.

You have repeatedly been asking for subtitles, even though I and others here have explained that Avallac'h is busy with real life, and asked you to be patient. On top of that being rude.

Thanks for episode 24.
The ratings in Japan are not doing well:
The source is Tokyohive's regular Drama Prime Time Report that gives you a detailed look at the prime time ratings with a focus on the weekly dramas

Sorry off topic, but do you know when was the last time a taiga drama was successful, in terms of rating? And what constitutes as a good rating nowadays in Japan, about 20% or so? Thanks :-)

With today's numbers I'd say 15% (for regular 10-12 eps dramas) is consider (very?) good ratings. This number might be different for longer dramas such as taigas and asadoras.

Compare to Inochi (1986)
Viewership ratings: 26,6% (1st ep), 36,7% (highest ep), 29,3% (average)

More recent example being Atsu-hime (2008)
Viewership ratings: ep1=20.3 high=29.2 avg=24.5 (all Kanto #s)

You can follow Candylemon's blog for updates on viewing figures (for main dramas)

We have talked to my wife's family in Okinawa a few times about this subject, and they say that due to there being so many options available for viewing a 15 rating is considered very good for any type of program. It's not like a while back when there were fewer options. On our last visit there in 2013, they were watching more American programs dubbed in Japanese that Japanese programs. Taigas seem to be more popular outside of Japan than in Japan.

Thanks for doing this. My wife (Japanese) watches these as soon as I put them up on our Plex server, but I make her rewatch with me once subtitles come out!
