What? I am totally surprised, I quite liked the anime, but I could never imagine this as live action :)

But I said the same thing about saikano, and finally, it wasn't bad. I will see this for sure.

Could one of you who know the anime give those of us who are clueless a brief idea/synopsis of what this is about? :-)

All I know is that Iwata Sayuri is in the lead role, I didn't recognize the rest of the cast.

I've just watched this episode and it was really good IMO... :-)

So I just downloaded and watched this. It's not so bad, but I am afraid it will be just copy of anime version. The first episode is nearly identical with the anime. But too bad that Enma Ai is not as beautiful character as in anime, but it's just impossible in live action :)

skachild: You can find cast at this series' homepage, it's in Japanese only though. As it was mentioned, Iwata Sayuri is in Enma Ai's role. If it goes on like the anime (and I suppose so), except for two characters appearing in later episodes, there won't be any single person who is in more episodes.

I will keep watching this anyway :)

The first episode of the anime makes a good introduction to the whole concept of the show. They can't do a complete copy of the anime, though, because they only have 12 episodes to work with. (It's 12, right?) They'll have to dump most of the anime's stand-alone stuff in order to cover the storyline with Hajime and Tsugumi.

Anyway, thanks very much for the upload!

Well, I couldn't find total episode count anywhere, so I can't say. I hope they will dump it, it would be boring with same length as anime.

I'd like to see them develop the story more like the anime series did from about the 8th or 9th ep. I like stuff where there are several storylines going at the same time and they eventually circle back around and connect and I kind of feel that's where it is headed.

If no one picks this series up, we will, but we won't start working on it until after we finish Regatta. It would be a hardsub if we do it.

I hope they won't ruin the image of the anime because the anime itself is almost perfect. It's beautiful and great.

I know the real drama probably can never produce the same impact as the anime but I'm looking forward to see what how this drama go.

After checking the official site I'm pretty sure there'll be 12 episodes.

I've started a DramaWiki article with the basic info I've found:

Woah! This is a huge shock! I had NO idea they were making a live-action! I never saw this on DramaWiki's upcoming/currently airing drama list, but I must be BLIND!

This is AWESOME! I love the anime. This can;t possibly be as good, but COOL!

Thanks for posting it up. :) but 12 episodes, each <25 minutes long? That's... short.

From the first episode, it seems to be sticking quite close to the anime, even the music is too, which is good :D Still think they should have gotten a little girl (at least a younger one) to act as Enma Ai though.

Iwata Sayuri was the goodfornothing random Sakuno-replacement in the Prince of Tennis movie earlier this year. I really loved the anime, so I wonder how she's going to do in this series seeing as in the movie she was completely crap (though her part was badly written so maybe it's not her fault)

Katou Kazuki, who plays the main male character, is very popular as the actor who plays Atobe Keigo in the Prince of Tennis musicals. He did a short stint on a sentai show also earlier this year, as well as having a moderately successful (if very new) music career. I don't like his music, but he does have a gorgeous voice and good stage presence. I look forward to how he's going to do in this drama, though I personally think that he's pretty shallow.

If no one picks up the series, we will, but it will be a while before we can work on it. We would do a hardsub if we do it. If another group wants to sub it, please do so because we can't work on it right away. But, if no one else does it, we will for sure. I'm a big fan of the anime, so I would really like to do it, but we have already made previous commitments, so we can't do it now. ganbarimasu!

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't picked up by at least one of the groups that subbed the Jigoku Shoujo anime.

we (skewed studios) are also in the state of deciding on doing this (have kinda lots of projects at hand). we will most prolly release both softsubs and hardsubs.

A couple of comments about the Ep. 1 sub, for future reference or in case you want to do a Version 2. :-)

The title character's name is Enma Ai, not Emma Ai.

The type face at the very beginning (subbing the narrator's introduction) is really hard to read.

Regarding the bit in Ai's speech where she's explaining that the person sending someone to Hell will also go to Hell, when she talks about the "two holes" - the anime fansubbers have generally translated that as, "When one is cursed, two graves are dug."

But those are just nitpicks. Overall, you guys did a good job. Thanks very much!
