In most sageuks I have watched, city streets in daytime scenes are busy with people; on the other hand, if something happens at night, the streets are deserted and the only ones out are the drama's characters.

Can anyone explain? Was there a curfew in the Joseon era?

Sign is my favorite among the KDramas running right now. It has action, humor, romance. It has Kim Ah-joong; it has Eom Ji-won.

I have never watched CSI.

KDrama Set in North Korea?

Has there been a KDrama set in (post-Korean War) North Korea, the DPRK? At least partly? Dramas with a few DPRK scenes, like IRIS, do not qualify.

Re: no cgi!

I agree with you. CGI has no place in historical drama's. I'm not so sure about that. Part of the attraction of Dong Yi , for me at least, is the sets and decors and costumes, as well as the sheer number of extras. The whole thing seems so real , like they were serious about things. I remember givi...

I just posted (in another thread) about Dong Yi, rating it the best sageuk I have seen. But now I wonder whether it should be called taeha, instead. I was not aware of the distinction.

I finished Dong Yi yesterday. The best sageuk I have seen, and one of the few I have been able to watch to the end.

I'm curious about this drama's setting... is this taking place someplace in the Kansai prefecture? It seems that some of the characters, such as Ryota, slip into kansai-ben so just wondering. Thanks! If I am not mistaken, the setting is Enoshima in the Kanagawa prefecture just south of Tokyo, which...

Thank you, but... None of my player programs can play the file, and even my media player (ASUS HDP-R1) says "Invalid File."

Is it just me?

I just finished reading The Barren Zone , the English translation of Toyoko Yamasaki's novel. Curiously, there is a foreword stating that this is the first of four linked novels. Indeed, it only covers the period from 1945 to 1959 and ends where Iki is returning from his first visit to the US. Howev...

Going by the Book is a hilarious comedy about a policeman who does just that - he goes by the book.

What Do North/South Koreans Call Each Other?

IRIS made me think of this. How do North/South Koreans refer to each other? That is, what words does a North Korean use to describe someone as South Korean? Correspondingly, what words does a South Korean use to describe someone as North Korean?
