@Cubicheote
Make a Backup of your srt-file.
Open srt-file with notepad.
Choose 'SAVE AS' - it shows the dialog where(at the bottom) 'ANSI' 'UNICODE' or 'UTF-8' might be shown.
That's the coding now. Choose UTF-8 and save.
Check for the right suffix. Do not use caps.

I have been using Verbatim+R (for storing data the advanced failure-correction is vital) for years now. The failure-rate is under 0,5%. The oldest archieved DVDs are 5 years old without any dropouts. My DVD-writers last about 1000 discs. (10 months). A 500GB-HDD is 465GB in reality - cost 87,5$. 110...

MPC/VOBSUB sometimes do not show subs if it is coded in UTF-8. After saving as ANSI-coded (notepad will do the trick), the subs play just fine. Same goes for UNICODE-coded. It appears that VOBSUB does not work with UTF-8, but ANSI and UNICODE. Don't forget to make a backup of your srt-file before ch...

Looks like here is a major problem. Your movie-file should be an *.avi and your subtitle-file a *.srt. Do not install more codecs, that is no good. Follow the instructions and it should work. *** I recommend the VLC-Player. Because it is easy to use - not only for Beginners - and you don't need to d...

There is no need installing any codec while using VLC. I have seen similar popups with onboard-graphics. You could try in: settings/video/output switching to 'Windows GDI...' (advanced options have to be activated). The video runs fine with me.( though I downloaded it about a year ago) You might fin...

You might have installed too much. Start reading here:
http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopi ... 455#141455
You possibly have to uninstall some codecs - or all - and start anew with a selected choice.
A simple way to view videos and softsubs is to use the VLC-Player.

@knuts: If your desired subtitle-file is in ANSI and a different codepage, you might encounter those troubles. I never tried this, but you could: Try opening the srt-file ONLINE with notepad. If the letters are okay, you can 'save as' . If you cannot read the letters, the subtitle-file isalready dam...

Have you checked your *.srt-file? Some brains rename .ssa or .ass files and even .sub-files to srt. You can use notepad for this.
