Hmm... I guess it depends, but overall I would say Japanese just because it's usually a good story and you don't get sick of it cause it's only a limited number of episodes.

Korean dramas for me is usually really refreshing to watch cause they take on plots other asian dramas don't and have fun with it, but then again I usually stop watching after seeing 12-13 episodes. Don't know why actually, it's not like they're horrible or something, I just lose interest.

Taiwanese are 90% of the time very low budget, and the episodes are very long. The producers have streched out the drama to a least 24 episodes, and therefore the episodes has to be low budget to go according to the total budget. One thing that REALLY annoys me when watching TW dramas, is the comical backgrounds that are supposed to be "funny", and the jokes are usually the same. 70% of all the TW I've seen are crap, but then again, when they decide to do more serious dramas like The Rose or Mars, then they're not that bad. Smile

This is an interesting thread to read.

So far, I've only watched K-Dramas, with the exception of Friends, but that's a K/J Drama.

The reason why I became interested in K-Dramas in the first place stems from the fact that I used to live and work in South Korea. So for me, watching K-Dramas is like looking through a window into my past. I love it when I recognize places, and giggle when they go to NoRaeBongs and Bath Houses, because I used to do that too Roll Eyes Tongue I used to frequent DVD bongs in Korea and became addicted to Korean cinema over there. So from movies, it was just a short step to drama, where I still recognize a lot of the same actors and actresses.

K-Dramas are very addicting, I love them!!! I watch at least one, and most of the time, two a day! Smile The story lines are sweet, and I like the comfortable feeling of them being predictable. And I am finding I really like some of the new ones that they have now, like Yi San and Legend, Legend is just fantastic! Smile

I will probably watch some J-Dramas as well, there are a few I've read about that look very interesting. I vacationed and traveled around Japan while I was in Korea, so even watching Friends, I found that I was still able to recognize quite a few things. And from what people have written here, it's perked my interest up enough to give a few of them a go! Smile

It really depends on the drama. There are some really good Korean Dramas, but there are also some great Taiwanese and Japanese dramas that are really addicting.

K-Drama - there's Kim Sam Soon, My Girl, Sassy Girl, Sorry I Love You, etc
J-Dorama - 1 Litre, Orange Days, Last Christmas, Nodame, HYDs, etc
TW - ISWAK, DBY (that's all I've seen and they're quite addicting)

but then you see a couple of bad ones, you'll think k/tw/j-dramas are boring/bad, then you stumble on a good one and yay you're addicted again..

okay the most addicting for me right now are J-Doramas because I didn't enjoy the last few dramas that I saw (Dog & Wolf and Hello Miss) and I just saw PropDai. thumright

Even though I like K-dramas and am a fan of Korean entertainment in general, I have to agree that I don't find it very addictive either. I mean, k-dramas are very good, without a doubt, but let me put it bluntly - There's not enough crack in it Cool I don't go through withdrawal's if I don't get my daily dose, and I sure as hell don't wake up any earlier for a morning shot.

I'm beginning to think I'm only watching k-dramas for the beautiful Korean actresses (and they do have so many), and I'm not really appreciating the content provided. I'm not sure why, but the dramas just drag on and on for so long that it feels like a chore just to complete. You know that feeling you get when you've just finished cleaning your room so your mommy can let you play outside? Tongue Anyhow, I still enjoy k-dramas enough to stick with it. For now, anyway.

As for Taiwanese dramas, hehe, I'm actually not surprised one bit that you're so addicted to it. Not because I think they're good, on the contrary, but because you said you're in high school. Taiwanese series are really aimed at the high school demographic (from what I've seen anyway), whilst neglecting many things which older viewers enjoy, such as good acting, intricate plot and high production values. But the three things that I hate the most about Taiwanese dramas are:

1/ They copy K-dramas. A lot.
2/ In some series almost the entire cast aren't professional actors. Instead, they use singers, or 'idols'.
3/ Actors/actresses aren't very good looking. Joe Cheng is supposed to be handsome? Ariel Lin is supposed to be pretty? Ok, they're decent looking people, but not quite at the standards set by the Koreans.

But I guess it all comes down to personal preference, and you do what floats your boat. Sorry to hear you've defected to the dark side though, I hope you see the light, eventually Smile

I have watched many K-drama's, some J-drama's. As for T-drama's, I have watched 2.5 and skimmed through a few.

I have seen MG1and half of Heaven's Wedding Gown. I watched the T-drama's, because they were supposed to be good. But I thought Heaven's Wedding Gown was so so bad, that I could not finish it. It put me off T-dramas. Recently I watched the T-version of HanaKimi, because it was shown in Korean and thought it was not bad, better than the J-version, so now looking for other good T-drama's. But those seem hard to be found.

I also think that the K-drama's have far more pretty actors and actresses. I was wondering why. Was it because I was used to seeing them? Pretty people are everywhere, but how come there are so many beautiful K-actors/actresses? Do they get themselves more fixed than the Taiwanese and Japanese ones? Or is just that the not pretty ones, talented or not, don't get offered roles?

Like this Ariel and Angela. Sorry, but I don't think they are really pretty.
I have dl a few recommended ones, like ISWAK, My lucky Star, Mars, At the Dolphin Bay etc. Skimmed through a few, but must say I am not impressed.

Reading the comments in the thread makes me understand why that "palace" in Romantic Princess is so not nice: T-drama's are low-budget drama's.

I have seen very very good J-drama's, but overall I think I prefer to watch K-drama's, because the recent J-drama's are so...unrealistic?....comical?....
If HYD and HanaKimi are supposed to be the best J-drama's nowadays, then I will also stick to my K-drama's.

ps: I wonder, is it then not sad for the really talented Taiwanese actors/actresses to be limited by the not so talented PD's, script writers, etc in their country?

To get back to the topic of this thread, I find K-drama's most addictive. K-drama's are the only drama's of which I felt the urge to rewatch shortly after having seen them. Only the good ones. of course.

First, i got addicted to asian drama when meteor garden boom in my country..
and i started watch many twdrama and k-drama..and last jdrama..
so far i almost watched their drama, even not all...
First I like twdrama coz, there are cute, and funny drama..but, usually they dont have the original story..(Meteor Gardem,ISWAK,DBY,MARS,HanaKimi),just copy and make it more funny..,i watch it just to have fun..

THen,i watch kdrama..and i like it! so funny..lively..romantic.. with beautiful people..
but, that's all... somehow i find my self stuck just watching the beginning of the episodes (the funny part) and the endings..(just want to curious about the ending, even sometimes you can predict the ending..)but not the middle part !! (coz, for me it's too draggy..just the same problem and cliche)and the plot is ..too so-so!! usually love 4angle.. but i still watch kdrama coz it still funny.. Wub

But for me, the most addicted drama is jdrama! somehow i like the story,plot,setting,actor/actress,music,its really hooked me!
I like their plot ,which is not boring for me..and of course the most important for me is they have "message" about the problem in every story of episode ,you can list many quotes about life just by watching the drama ..
And most of their story is realistic..they dont show you the character of an angelic or the devil one, just as human being who can be both..and sometimes it's not easy to predict about the ending, and yeah..it's not always a happyend

And i understand, some people may not like jdrama, coz yes jdrama usually didn't have the romantic and sweet kind of it..it's more like life altering drama..it's all about life, not just romance, but also friendship, family, carrer and sacrifice.. but i think those are really close to our life,so it's not impossible if the main problem in drama could be OUR problem in the real world.. thumleft

This topic is interesting!

I got shocked at how many people don't watch or like Japanese dramas! They're the most creative! Not only are they plot-based, but some have really good looking characters and funny scenarios (like Hotaru no Hikari & Nodame Cantabile)
& some are life-altering, like 1 Liter of Tears...

Jdramas are very creative, unlike Korean dramas you don't see much of cliches.
Yet I can't say that Japanese dramas are the best because there are very entertaining Korean & Taiwanese dramas. Some Korean dramas have good looking cast (males & females) & you feel that you can't take your eyes off the screen for a moment! Not to mention the good story that goes with it ^^ The only flaw is that some series go longer than they should (when the whole story could've finished nicely in some earlier episodes)...

Taiwanese dramas..I don't have much experience because I've only watched a couple (& enjoyed what I've watched) but then again, the story feels so elongated when it could've ended nicely & briefly sweating

So all kinds of dramas have their flaws & goo points so choosing which is better is a personal opinion....as for me, I'd choose Japanese ^__^

TWDRAMAS:
First and last drama I watched was Meteor Garden. It became a "craze" here in the Philippines but like all crazes and fads, it slowly died down and was overtaken by kdramas.

JDORAMAS:
First one I watched was Gokusen. It was really funny. The second, Princess Princess D and the third and the one I liked most is Hana Kimi. The humor is great but Kdramas are really more romantic.

KDRAMA:
First drama I watched and loved was Full House. Then I watched My Girl, Goong, Coffee Prince, Witch Yoo Hee... and a lot more. So i think Kdramas are more addicting!

Rank according to most addicting:
1 - Kdramas
2 - Jdoramas
3 - Twdramas

Ehh, I like all types of dramas depending on what's being shown, but i mostly prefer watching Korean and Japanese dramas. I don't really understand the concept about what you mean as "addicting" especially when you describe it for Taiwanese dramas. I like Devil Besides You and Corner With Love the best while ISWAK was ok.

But I have to admit, it was kind of a pain to watch ISWAK because of all the overacting and so I fastforwarded most of the time. The beginning was funny, but Ariel Lin's "dumb and naive" personality got old. When it got to the middle episodes, I stopped watching it for a while (more like a year later) before I started watching where I left off and fastforwarding the "dumb" Ariel Lin parts and went straight to the end just to see the end. The ending was really funny but also really stupid. I mean would you really ruin your wedding day by dressing up in opposite clothes. I think this happens to me most of the time when watching TW dramas. I tend to watch first few episodes and stop halfway only to continue it at a later time (like 1 or 2 years later when there is nothing else to watch) Really how can you get addicted to dramas that really don't have good actors, bad quality most of the time and nonsensical plot.

Like many others say, I prefer Jdoramas for their plot driven stories and Kdramas for their awesome actors, and emotionally/character driven plots. For these two, I can easily watch one series (especially if they're complete) in 2 days to 1 week max and not 1 year later.

Lately though, I'm also getting into Hong Kong dramas. I think I started watching those when I was younger and they were dubbed in Tagalog. And they are mostly high quality stuff and I am a big fan or martial arts.

I also think that J-dramas are better! Unlike most K-dramas which have similar themes, J-dramas have more variations. As for Tw-dramas, i don't really like them...

Taiwanese dramas. Why? Because they're the only Asians that can kiss. :\
You're more likely to find a steamy sex scene in a Taiwanese drama than any other kind of drama.
The Cast's chemistry really does alot. Meh, I like Japanese dramas the least since they're pretty much over-rated and I don't find interest in alot of them.
For tears, I watch Korean dramas because they actually know how to act and I love melo-dramas.
