nice, thanks for the subbed version. i really hope they continue the story in the form of an actual drama later this year or something because the ending of this special didn't do the original comic justice

Well I never heard of it before, and I found it hillarious. Maison Ikkoku is a mad house...

But I just can't believe it ended that way, are you guys sure this is a one time thing?

Supposedly it is a 1 time thing. Maybe this is a prologue to the drama series... or another special? We do not know at this point. Nothing's been confirmed and it's all hearsay at this time. Crying

The SP covered almost the entire manga by showing key moments but left out sub plots like the ones with the tennis teacher. Hopefully if they decide at some point to make a proper series they will keep the same cast. Big Smile

arigatou gozaimasu! Outsukare!
Maison Ikkoku is by far my favorite anime series. It got me hooked on Japanese anime again. Such an amazing story. I recommend anyone here who hasn't seen it and even PARTIALLY liked this special to find the originals and watch them. Viz distributed them and they're a pretty good translation (with subs) however the originals were fansubbed by a group out of Vancouver way back when fansubbing = ???(Lots of hard work)

What a trip down memory lane this special was. The characters did a REALLY GOOD job with this, but I agree, they left the ending WIDE open, with Kozue and Mitaka Coach just coming in at the very end. It sets it up perfectly for an 11-episode drama love triangle or two... now that he's in College. I think the original manga couldn't have been done in one drama... and this way, IF THEY DECIDE to do a live drama, and IF they keep the same cast, they can really focus on the heart of the story.

The original anime/manga, I think, is far too slow for most of today's audiences... the build up in the series was amazing... and took forever to get going, which modern audiences rarely have the patience for... however, the characters were developed SO well... but anyhow...

The special is a complement to the original, but I REALLY hope they finish it off!

IMO it's pointless to watch this special without knowing the manga or at last the 96 episode animated series. At last if you don't plan to watch this dorama just because of Ito Misaki.

is that really a baaad thing hehehe!

thanks SARS!!

Has the general opinion of this drama special changed after Part 2 was released (July 26, 2008)?

Out of curiosity: why did SARS reencode this to 704x396 from a 1280x720 raw?

This was released back when 1280x720 (HD) fansubbed content wasn't as popular. We only made the change last year after the demand for it grew.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the quick answer! Any chance for a re-release in 720p, or are we left to our own devices for that?

Bump with the same question. I assume that you won't re-release, but I just wanted to check for sure.
