Curious as to what you'd recommend I do if I want to make a batch torrent of a completed series, but cannot get a response from the original uploader. Seems a bit ridiculous that there should be preference of individual episodes over a batch for any reason, but maybe that's just me.

How long ago did you PM the uploader? Some of us don't go on D-Addicts everyday - or even every week. I would give him a month or two before declaring him inactive.

If I'm downloading pretty much from scratch, I prefer batch torrents. However, I rarely download something "late into the game" where I would need a batch.
As far as seeding, I really do not like seeding batches. If someone requests a batch to be seeded, I won't seed unless I know that particular person. On the other hand, I am constantly seeding individual episodes because I prefer to seed these.

re: Downloading certain parts of a batch
there is that snippet in the FAQ that probably goes over people's heads, so i'd thought i'd post this image:

| I guess I kind of diverged from the topic earlier, but my opinion is that 1 month should be sufficient as long as the original torrents still exists.

thanks for asking.
a courtesy request to the original uploader is ALWAYS necessary. as for the 'wait time' for a response, i would say it should be approximately three to four weeks.
that being said, it's always good to follow these guidelines:
1. send a request to the original uploader notifying them of your intention to batch their series.
2. inform a moderator that you sent a request, and that you will wait for a response.
3. if you do not get a response after several weeks, notify the mod of what the situation is. given the time frame, whether the member signs in or not, etc., the mod will probably allow you to batch the series.
4. if you receive permission, go ahead and batch the series (preferably using DA as the tracker).
5. in your Torrent Comments:
..... give credit to the original uploader
..... mention who gave you permission (original uploader or mod, etc.) - this protects you from having another mod delete your torrent
..... include some comments about the series (or copy/paste it from the original uploads)
..... provide links to the original Torrent Comments for the single torrents
6. after you post the batch, use the REPORT button to notify mods that the single torrents should be removed ... and the original comments locked._________________ Use THUMBS UP/DOWN buttons to KEEP or DELETE posts.

Why would you rather seed individual episodes instead of a batch? It's completely irrational. If someone wants more than one episode from you, it requires multiple connections from the same I.P., requires you divide your bandwidth among the individual episodes, and in the end simply slows down the entire process of download for everyone. With a batch all one needs to do is select which files out of the batch they want. It's not rocket science. If individual episodes were more efficient than batches, there wouldn't be any batch torrents._________________

This statement isn't true at all. Personally, I could give a flying f**k about the leecher. If it takes him one month or one year to download an episode, that isn't my problem. My only concern is the tracker. After I upload all the episodes of a series, I turn them into a batch without a month or so later. But I do this ONLY for the sake of the tracker - as it places less of a burden on the server.
Trust me... There are far more important things to worry about than these leechers.

That doesn't make sense to me. Aren't you uploading so other people can download? We can't all be uploaders afterall. I think it's easier to upload and download a batch. That's why I prefer them all around. |
Seriously, I have a political agenda when it comes to uploading... Uploading 1990s dramas offers an alternative to people who don't want to spend the next 10 years watching manga-based school dramas with flaming queer-looking boys. The outcome of the seeding - I really don't care - seriously I don't. My goal is for a torrent to reach 10 completions. After that, I stop uploading to that torrent. The number of completions beyond that point, *shrug*. Whether a torrent reaches 0 seeds one year from now, *shrug* the torrent has entertained the lives of those who were fortunate to get it in time. Whether a newbie can't get the drama one year from now - hehehe, that's his problem, and is not of a concern for me. If you don't understand THAT, then we have nothing further to discuss.
