UPDATE:
I'm now starting up my own fansub group, Noypi Fansubs, specifically for subbing Filipino movies and dramas. If you wanna help out, just e-mail me at wangbu@supaprends.net.
Hi,
Just wanna ask, are there any Filipino fansub groups out there? Or is anyone interested in putting up a fansub group for Filipino dramas and movies?
More importantly, are there anyone who have watched Philippine dramas? Or someone who has but wants it in English subtitles?
I've been doing translations for some Pinoy-movies lately.. I'm just wondering if anyone does the same and would like to team up together?

Thanks sweetserenity. It's good to know someone's translating japanese anime/series... do they translate in Filipino/Tagalog?
What I'm doing is quite the opposite, been translating filipino movies into english (I'm thinking of subbing fil dramas too.) Maybe if you got some time would you like to help?
I've been reading on the filipino thread from time to time... i've posted hello there before... but the thread goes so fast I didn't have enough time to read them all hehehe....

This is my first post but I've been a long time fan of Asian Dramas!
Translating Filipino > English seems like a good idea but is there any good Filipino dramas as of late? Last I've seen was about 7 years ago before we moved out here in Toronto.

yeah movies are actually much better to sub since it's not that long compare to dramas that's taking forever to end that would surely make most of the viewers ditch it halfway but maybe we could find few good dramas...

I'm interested in joining one, yet again...
Philippine series are not like any other asian series, because they air it from monday to friday with less than a 30 minute actual airing time(less the commercials). So I dont know if we can get it in an hour per episode basis. And they also usually runs more than a year, if you get what I mean. :
Although, right now, i'm interested with Philippine version of hit mexican series MariMar. |
is there really phil. version of marimar? is it any good? it's been quite long time since i watch phil. shows...
missing phil. television so much... _________________

7 years ago.... there wasn't much Fil drama to watch... maybe a few ones but most of them are soap operas, the long, draggy, etc. dramas of before.
In the recent years, there have been much development in Philippine dramas. The two most popular stations (ABS-CBN and GMA) have now been producing various "teleseryes" or "teledramas" of different genres (Fantasy, Sci-fi, Drama), and they even adopted from old Fil comics and even other works. GMA for instance has created Lupin, Marimar, Bakekang... which I find entertaining to watch as well. ABS-CBN, on the other hand, adopted various old Fil movies like "Maging Sino Ka Man", "Kampanerang Kuba", "Ang Panday", and so on.
Sure, I always believe that the current Fil dramas today still have room for improvement, but I believe the trend for FIl dramas has changed from the old times. For the better.

Yeah, it's true... although compared to old soap operas (I think the longest is 3 years), many Fil series nowadays last at least 6 months (well, still quite long.)
With regards to the story, well I have to agree with you, especially with some released dramas. I even disliked watching some series at all when watching it.... but come to think of it, perhaps other people might feel otherwise... it's a subjective thing. Plus, non-FIlipino viewers might appreciate it if we put in subtitles.
And if we can get it in an hour per episode basis, probably not, although I know of a forum site that downloads each episode and takes out the commercials (well for the newer series.) I'm even downloading Marimar everyday... I'm planning Marimar as my first Fil-drama fansub project

actually i visited one of threads here on d-addicts and i read that last year 2006 they were actually planning to sub "Maalala Mo kaya" into english though im not sure if the plan was pursued since there's a little doubt if it would actually click here..
but my fellow d-addicts on filipino community were actually asking if we could sub some of our own series (i mean filipino drama as you may call it) but we dont know where and when to begin and who to ask for..and plus the fact that we dont know anything how does fansubbing works... but im more than willing to extend any help if you plan to pursue your original plan and i could ask some helping hand from my online buddies here on d-addicts...
and lastly, as for the filipino thread yeah the pages keeps coming everyday we made it sort of meeting place coz everyone were actually located in different place so it's a good meeting point where we could get news and discuss topics...really hope you can visit there often..that would be fun and everybody are nice too... |
A friend of mine gave me a link where they post Filipino dramas and movies... I'm so surprised that they've kept a lot of Filipino movies there on torrents; and the newest Fil dramas (more commonly known as teledramas or teleseryes here) are there too!
Here they are:

woah so this is where they keep the torrents...
but do you think were allowed to post the torrents here (assuming we started subbing some of them)? im little bit freaky when it comes to legality issue.. |
That I'm still asking them I'll let you know if I get a response from the uploaders in ipmart. The people there doesn't seem to know about d-addicts as well.
Although, my friend who's a regular there told me that they wanted some people to do subtitles for the Fil movies (not sure about the Fil dramas, gotta ask too). Maybe, in case we start subbing, we could do some sort of exchange deals? Hehehe...
Oh, I forgot, I've completed subbing one movie already, I'm currently posting it at:
http://chinkymovies.blogspot.com. There are other Fil movies there, but the one I subbed is "Mano Po 5: Gua Ai Di". Right now I'm subbing "Ang Tanging Ina". I've started subbing ep1 of "Marimar" as well but I wanted to finish ATI first before I start with another.
I've checked in crunchyroll, there are independent subbers out there subbing Fil dramas and movies--I've seen "Maging Sino Ka Man" already subbed in English.
