Hi -

I've just recently uninstalled my previous codecs and installed the K-lite codec pack full and the CCCP codec pack (recommended by fellow d-addict members in order to view .mp4 & h264 videos properly). I like to burn my videos using Nero 7 (it's actually NeroVision 4) onto DVD's to watch on my TV. Today is the first time burning after installing these codecs and my Nero program stops after adding the video file(s). Like it gets "stuck". I see on the bottom of my computer as I'm adding the video file(s) that FFDshow and Haali Media Splitter gets activated. Why is that?

Why do adding these codecs affect my Nero program? And how do I fix this problem? Do I have to adjust the settings on the codecs? If so, which ones and how? scratch

I'm a newbie with this techy stuff, so any advice and step by step directions is GREATLY appreciated! I would hate to have to uninstall the codecs, burn the DVD's, and then install the codecs again. That would be such a pain. Crazy

Someone please HELP!!! Many THANKS in advance!! salut

Personally, I haven't experienced the type of set-up you have. However, I do know that Nero uses its own video and audio codecs, which are installed when you install Nero. So it is possible that because you installed the codec packs AFTER installing Nero, your Windows PC is giving priority to the most recent installation of a given codec type.

So with that, what I would do is:

- Remove ALL codec packs.
- Remove Nero.
- Install just ONE codec pack. It isn't good to install two or more.
- Install Nero.

Try this first before uninstalling (per suggestion of groink)

Look for the program "codec tweak tool" located in the K-lite codec pack folder. Then uncheck all boxes that reference Nero. I found two in my program.

Hi -

Thanks doggieusa & groink for your help! The only way I can get the Nero to work is if I disabled the ffdshow and Haali Media filters (not sure why that is). I'm going to do as groink suggests with the uninstalling and reinstalling to prevent future problems, but I have another question:

Is there any difference between the K-lite codec pack full and the CCCP codec pack? If I only install 1 codec pack, which one should I pick? scratch

Because another member recommended adding both codec packs, that's the only reason why I did, but I think some of the programs are "competing" against each other and making my computer a bit screwy. Goggle eyes

Thanks again in advance for your additional help!! salut

actually, the burning portion of nero is unaffected by codecs. but since you're actually CONVERTING the video before it's burnt, that's where the codec problem comes in.

so, your other option is to use another program (like autogk, etc.) to convert your video FIRST. then, just burn with nero.

a good place to look for conversion guides is: www.videohelp.com

Thanks jholic! Actually I convert the .mp4 videos into .avi files using AVISynth and VirtualDubMod first (XVID files), then use Nero to burn only. I used the guide from www.forum.videohelp.com/topic289872.html. But even coverting the videos first, my Nero program "locks up" when using it only to burn (if I don't disable the ffdshow and Haali Media filters first).

Does anyone know: Is there any difference between the K-lite codec pack full and the CCCP codec pack? If I only install 1 codec pack, which one should I pick?

Thanks again in advance for any help or advice!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!

if you go to www.free-codecs.com, you can see the difference by clicking on both of them.

it's odd that codecs affect nero's burning ability. instead of that nero vision thing, have you tried, just using nero burning rom? it should be in your start menu.

Ore.Sama: i hear there's some issues with nero 7. i also wonder if you have enough memory in your computer.

before you press 'burn', ctrl-alt-del and look at your task mgr and processes. after you press burn, how much of the cpu is the burn using? 100%?
