i swear by k-lite, so i hope it works out for you.
this is what you should do: go to add/remove programs. remove all your codecs, including k-lite. reboot.
re-install k-lite, AND install media player classic.
from now on, you should be able to use mpc to play EVERYTHING. in fact, you should go back to www.free-codecs.com and install quicktime alternative and real alternative. mpc will play those files too._________________ Use THUMBS UP/DOWN buttons to KEEP or DELETE posts.

thanks!
I have done what you have suggested and now Windows media player works on my old existing avi files however it won't play Mars anymore and it won't play Baminbo. The new media classic player will play everything including Mars (yah! looks like this is my new player) however it still won't play Bambino. This only plays in Winmap. Looks like I am going to have to use a variety of players. I just have to remember which one plays what.

That's a little weird.
My setup is really simple. K-lite and real alternative codecs and KM player. This lets me watch anything. I've yet to come across something that wont play.

as usual, I recommend the VLC-Player. Because it is easy to use - not only for Beginners - and you don't need to download or install any codec or other crap. So there is not much to worry about.
Goto:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
download player Ver 0.8.6a (As of today(2007.05.17) it is 0.8.6b)
install player
watch dorama
(This version is bound to handle unicode)
There are a few rules though:
For Softsubs:
Movie- and subtitle-file in the same directory.
Identical names, suffixes not in capitals.
VLC does not recognize .ass-files. Rename to .ssa (technically the same anyway).
(Unicode in subtitles isn't always displayed correctly.)
With version 0.8.6 it seems that subtitles are enabled by default. So there should be nothing else to do but enjoy.
As I said: enjoy _________________ Life isn''t that complicated. One sweet memory will do...

| I never have any problems in playing anything after installing CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) (http://www.cccp-project.net/download.php?type=cccp). I play everything with Media Player Classic. Of course, the codec works well with the default Windows Media Player too. No additional player needed.

bria: i'm confused. i can only imagine that you didn't uninstall all your codecs. i have not dl'ed bambino, but i dl'ed joudan ja nai. according to the specs, they are both encoded with divx6. JJN plays fine on my computer.
ok, you have a few choices. you can either uninstall everything and choose the player jocotus recommended or kdramasaranghae.
OR, you can go back to www.free-codecs.com and download/install: DivX Free 5.2.1
it's the one codec i installed because it helped me remain compatible with autogk._________________ Use THUMBS UP/DOWN buttons to KEEP or DELETE posts.

| Is there are programm which could tell me which codec I am missing while playing certain files? I just got a new PC and installed the newest version of K-Lite. However I have problems with playing Coffee Prince on it now as the video won't show. I can hear only the audio. Already deinstalled and reinstalled K-Lite. It's still not working. I am able to watch the file with VCL Player. But still I am curious how to find out which codec I am missing. Any ideas?
