Hanoi Bride (하노이 신부)

[Hanoi Bride Wiki]
[Twitch Review]

This series was a 2 episode special from SBS to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the ending of the Vietnam war. The story in a nutshell is basically about a Korean doctor (Lee Dong Wook) who works in Vietnam and falls in love with a Vietnamese girl (Kim Ok Bin). There are some minor twists and turns in the story which makes things interesting and everything was wrapped up very well in the end despite being only two episodes long.

The big revelation for me however, is Kim Ok Bin. She is amazingly beautiful. Her beauty is not the type that's glaringly obvious - My first impressions was that she's decent looking, but by the end of the show I was totally mesmerized by her beauty and her convincing portrayal of a soft and fragile yet strong-willed Vietnamese girl. She did speak a few lines of Vietnamese in the show and to be honest, it was incomprehensible, but she sounded cute, so it wasn't an issue Tongue

I noticed after reading some of the comments from Mister X's Twitch Review that some people were offended by how the Koreans portrayed the Vietnamese. I personally feel there wasn't really anything to be offended by. Sure, this drama does tackle the issue of Korean men going to Vietnam to "buy" a bride, but you'd have to be pretty paranoid and cynical to be offended by it. I guess it's all about how one perceives things, but I digress.

Overall I thought this was a solid drama for its short length and obviously lacked some character development, but the story is interesting enough, albeit typical. It has beautiful sceneries of Vietnam, the gorgeous Kim Ok Bin and of course Lee Dong Wook for the girls Big Smile and also a very nice song by Park Hwa Yobi. It's only 2 episodes so everyone should give this series a shot.

The only problem for me now is that I haven't had enough of Kim Ok Bin. I've just seen Whispering Corridors 4: Voice (she did great there) and am now deciding on what to watch next Smile

If you want to see more of Kim Ok Bin, watch Over the Rainbow.
