Elysse, that helps A LOT. Thank you very, very much for the tips. I'll start working on that right-o. I love "Flowers for Algernon" that much.
Thanks for the subs, KBS World team!

The subs on them were intelligible, but definitely mediocre in the mildly annoying sense. LIke you, I would much prefer to view the series in a well-put-together form, rather than just a "as long as we get the idea" sense. Which boxset did you purchase? Mine's got a pink-ish cover.
Anywho, I've been trying to take the video files off the DVD's so I could use the KBS World fansubs from here with them, but... As you no doubt have encountered as well, I'm having the gosh danged hardest time figuring that out. I use VLC Media Player, and nothing I've tried has gotten the video and the subs to play together. The video plays, but the subs don't show up. I'm still trying to figure out if I could make this work. Want.. to.. watch.. badly...
Also, thank you for suggesting that Japanese series! I shall definitely keep it in mind. Hope to hear how you (and anyone else out there!) are doing with this soon. I'm on spring break too, so I understand. |
My DVD box set copy of Hello God is a blue on top/green on bottom with characters in the center copy. Nice box with a cardboard sleeve, with English on the back and Chinese characters all over it. It won't play in my DVD player. I had to get the DivX codecs to get it to play. It was about $45 for the set, and I Knew that I was in trouble when I read the first lines on the back cover:
"27 years old, the official duty is the swindler, the side occupation: Disguises as the female teacher temporarily. (Jin Yubin) She does not believe love, also cannot believe has the joy. Because she thinks in this world you so long as believed those that link the qualification also not to be able to gain."
Gaah.
I have the srt files, and I've been meaning to tear off the video from the set and try to merge the srt file so that I can burn this off and play it in the DVD player. Nobody in the household has the patience for this but me.
It has put me off buying any more of the videos with "English" translations. I really want these places that sell the videos to offer short clips of the story with a translation segment so that we can see what we're buying.
I'll pm you later. Elysse's post gave me hope that I can get this to work.

I loved this series. Haven't heard anything about Kim Ok-bin in the last few months though...
I too bought a boxed DVD set here in Mainland China. I don't think there ever was an official DVD release of this series in Korea because it wasn't that popular. Like many boxed TV sets here in China, it was clearly made from high-def TV captures -- the picture quality is great except for the last two low-def episodes.
Anyway, there were no English subs (just Chinese ones), so I did what I often do with series I buy here -- I too used DVD Decrypter, extracting each episode into a single VOB file, and then watched them with the softsubs from here using Media Player Classic.
Since I have a laptop with TV Out, I don't bother burning new DVDs -- I just hook my laptop up to my TV to watch.
The big screen TVs here usually have a USB port, and can actually play DivX movies directly off of portable hard drives, like the iPod, so my sister-in-law would sometimes watch hardsubbed videos from D-Addicts that way. I'm curious as to whether TVs outside China have this feature...

Is it easy to make that hook up (laptop to tv)? Could you explain please?

I plan to upload the file on the web, but they took the file down saying it violate some of the term. So for now you can go to the website bellow to watch it. Sorry for the inconvinient, You just have to download the software and then dowlnload the movie with that same software to watch. Once the download is finish you can find the movie in your "My Video" folder you can open it with Media Player Classic or watch it with the same software you download with. Enjoy.
* The problems with this version is that the they change the main character name to Day. The quality is not as good as the original. And about 2 minutes of the end is cut off. (If you want to know what happen at the end you can watch the original file without sub since it's only 2 minutes.
Anyway here is the link to the video.

And here is the link to the transcript for those whose want to make softsub and share it with everyone.

I have re-timed and re-spellchecked the sub for Ep.13 (high quality version) using the fansub's raw sub. Thank you fansub and creidesca for all your hard work, and thank you loveme23 for providing the link. With your help, I am able to enjoy this great series. Now here is the last missing sub.
