When I have uTorrent running, internet slows down. It's almost not working! But when i exit uTorrent, it's working again. Why? Can someone help me? This is starting to get really annoying -.-'

Thanks in advance Smile

limit your upload speed. let's say the most you can upload is 55kb/s you wanna have at least a 5-10kb/s buffer for your browsing overhead. So, take your max upload and limit it to 5-10kb/s less Idea

Actually that's the magic number that'll limit your download speed. I guess try 6...What kind of connection are you on?

Ok, I'll try 6 :-P

I'm not sure, i'm bad at that Laugh but before i installed uTorrent, it was fast. And when I first used uTorrent, internet worked fast. It's only now it has been going bad Sad My downloadspeed is pretty fast, it's just the internet that works slowly.

If you are downloading a lot of uTorrent, then it is using up your download bandwidth, which would also cause your internet to be slow.

Yes, but what speed is your connection? For example, the slowest DSL is around 256/256, which means 256 kb/s both up and down. That's about 25kiloBYTES down, which is easily reachable even for not very seeded torrents. Then your computer would use about 22kilobytes for the torrent and about 2 kilobytes for internet browsing, and 1 for overhead (adding up to 25). 2kilobytes is a lot slower than even dial-up modem! (<-- btw, I used to do this all the time, before I finally upgraded my internet)

Yeah, she doesn't really know it seems. I thought everyone had a fat pipe in Sweeden.

But 256/256 is really slow, it's more like 32KB U/D. They trick us with the numbers...they know most people don't know the difference between a kilobit and a kilobyte. a kilobit is 8 times smaller though. so most people think they have great connections, like 5mbps down and 384 up sounds really great in terms of kilobytes, but they're talking kilobits, so divide by eight and that's why it's so hard to keep good ratios.

Anyway, that's how they get away with giving really crappy upload speed in 2007 Mad Glare Mad

WayaLe: the best way to tell is to stop all your downloading and uploading and internet activity.

then google for "bandwidth speed test"

use several different sites.

you should see what your avg dl and ul speeds are. then you will know how much to use.
