story is mao has an icurable disease ad she needs to have surgery. but there is a possibility that surgery won't work. 50/50 chance. so she wants to experience love and her first kiss since she's never experienced that before as she awaits the day of her surgery. so she goes back to japan and meets her brother whom she's hasn't seen for 10 years. and her brother knowing she wants to fall in love helps her. she falls in love with yuta's character. she's a spoiled brat here so she makes her brother's life a little complicated.
i hope the story gets really interesting...
edit
it's supposed to be a light-hearted drama...
with an incurable disease...
go figure...

Oh wow, it really is a proper series. It's getting the ProDai spot. AND Inoue Mao gets to die (thus legitimizing herself in the Top Actress category!!) Woohoo!!!!
Wow . . . looking at the people working on this, dang . . . it looks like they're really serious about promoting Inoue Mao as a serious actress. You have the screenwriter of 14 Sai no Haha, Romeo and Juliet, and King Lear. You have the director of Densha Otoko and Nodame Contabile. Seriously look at this cast she's playing against; they're all serious veterans.
Yeah, I don't think there will be a romance between the brother and sister. Uhm, the brother is uhm rather old. |
Yeah at first I just overlooked this one when I saw the title in this forum a few days ago but then I saw the wiki and my jaw dropped! Takeuchi Hideki is amazing at executing seemingly formulaic plots into really great dramas. Plus you got three of the very best comedic actors in supporting roles (by that I mean comedians who can actually ACT and not just be silly) with Takenaka Naoto, Abe Sadayo and Gekidan Hitori.
To be honest I'm a little worried with Hiraoka Yuuta, he hasn't really struck me as a very charismatic actor in the dramas I've seen him in and I don't see where you are getting the Yamada Takayuki comparison from but hopefully him getting tossed into a leading role will prove me wrong, I'm just happy that it's surprisingly not a johnny's kid for once .
I haven't really seen enough of Inoue Mao to form an opinion on her but I assume she'll have lots of material to work with when creating the incurable illness character heh. Ito Hideaki seems a little to old to play a brother to Mao but whatever, he always delivers good performances.
Looking forward to it, hopefully it will add something new to an over done genre!

Yeah, the k-drama "Thank You" was promoted as such too. I laughed so much that I had to go through a tissue boxe by episode 9 huhuhuhuh! (Beautiful drama, though. Favorite thing so far this year.)
I *guess* I can see it as a comedy version of Sekachu or Tayou No Uta. Laugh for 6 episodes, cry for 4 episodes, laugh and cry for the finale. Yay!!!

Oh Hana Kimi is going to be hella fun. ALL of Johnny's roster is going to be in that one!
Ratings for this show will probably be between 10 and 15. Nobody wants to cry on Monday. Our careers are depressing enough!

Sadayo with a pompadour = teh sexy!! I really loved him in Dare Yorimo Mama wo Ai su too, funny and moving.

Yuuta doesn't draw into the wells that Yamada is well known for, but he has a laid-back acting style that quietly betrays conviction.
I'm not sure how the story is going to lay out, but I think the world of Inoue Mao. Just from the standpoint of "acting acting", she may be the most technically talented in her group. Her line deliveries are really a world apart from everybody else -- for me, esp. with Japanese acting, line deliveries are so important for both comedy and drama. Yamada is a genius at messing with his cadence in order to create believable emotional responses and hit the punchlines perfectly. Mao has a similar knack of riding her intonation to kinda make you see the character and not her.
In any case, I hope Inoue Mao dies in a tearjerking fashion, so that she may go to Heaven and win another dang award. I hope Buddha will cast a vote for her too.
