Haisai minna-san! Welcome to the world of 'Churasan'! I am now uploading all one hundred and fifty-six episodes (of 156). They're all here at last.
Resources:
D-addicts link to 'Churasan' avi files (thanks kapneemo!):

DramaWiki link for 'Churasan':

JDrama link for 'Churasan':

Japanese Wiki site for 'Churasan' (in Japanese, but very informative):

I believe this is the first translated asadora (morning drama) so far on d-addicts, so I hope you'll find it a good transaltion. I also hope this will encourage other translators to work on asadoras in the future. There's lots of good stories out there waiting to be translated!
Notes:
You may I use two terms for Kohama Island: 'Kohama' and 'Kohamajima.' They are interchangeable. Kohama is the name of the island itself, while Kohamajima means 'Kohama Island.' This also goes for the other islands mentioned in the series such as Ishigaki Island.
For episodes 7 and up, I've decided to use Niinii and Neenee for 'brother' and 'sister' respectively. I hope this doesn't cause too much confusion. I will be updating episodes 1-6 with this usage as well for consistency's sake.
Koshien refers to Japan's national high school baseball tournaments, or it's version of the 'World Series' It actually refers to the stadium in which the final playoffs are performed, in Kobe. Find out more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koshien_Stadium
Haisai is the Okinawan way of saying 'hello' or 'hey there.'
Yamato is how the Okinawan people refer to Japan itself. Since Okinawa was an independant kingdom until the 1600's, they still refer to Japan and the Japanese people as Yamato, which is an ancient term for Japan. It also refers to the japanese language (as opposed to the Okinawan language).
Jyakaijinyakyuu This is a term Makoto uses in episode 15. It refers to companies that create their own non-professional baseball teams and hire players to fill them. Makoto hopes to go to Osaka and get a job with a company doing this. SInce this is too a long a term to put in the subs, I've just used 'company baseball' instead.
Yoroshiku Keitatsu picks up this word as a 'catch-phrase' of sorts in his quest to get into Rock. Since this term has many meanings depending on the situation, ranging from 'thanks,' to 'nice to meet you,' among others, I've decided to just leave it as is in the subtitles.
Teegee Some of you might remember this one from episode 007. It's a phrase meaing "Take it easy,' and pops up again in episode 022.
Ronin 浪人a student who is waiting for another chance to enter a university. The most famous one would probably be Godai of 'Maison Ikkoku.'
Sabani サバニ a small fishing boat used by Ryuukyuu villagers. Here's wikipedia page with a picture of one (in Japanese): http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%B5%E3%83%90%E3%83%8B
Tencho 店長 a shop manager. Common term used when addressing the owner in their shop.
Gogatsubyou 五月病 - blues experienced by college freshmen or workplace recruits shortly after beginning school or work.
Kanrinin 管理人- Manager (in this case, of the apartment complex). Much like "Tencho," this can be used to refer the manager as opposed to using their name.
Gojira ゴジラ - Godzilla.
Sanshin 三線 - "Three strings" The banjo like musical instrument Keibun carries about. A precursor to the Shamisen.
Senpai 先輩 - one's senior at work or school, or a superior.
Kouhai - 後輩 - one's juniors at school or work
Yaeyama - 八重山 - the islands of Okinawa
Teida - 太陽 - the Okinawan term for "Sun," and the life-giving/life-healing properties therein. Due to Eri's warm, energetic nature, she as often compared to or even seen to be possessing the qualities of 'Teida.'
Uchinanchiyu - ウチナンチユ - The term Okinawans use to refer to themselves/other Okinawan's. Literally it means "human being of Okinawa."
Kanbanmusume - 看板娘 - the pretty girl who attracts patrons to a store, often the daughter of the owner
Tora-san - 寅さん - "Otoko wa tsurai yo," 男はつらいよ "It's tough being a man." A series of films about a traveling salesman named Tora-san, who is eternally unlucky in love. One of the longest series of films ever made. Well worth seeking out. YesAsia has many of the movies available with english subtitles for those who are interested. Also see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otoko_wa_tsurai_yo
Uma no mimi ni Nebutsu - 馬の耳に念仏 - "Praying to Buddha into a horse's ear." Similar to "Casting pearls before swine," i.e. wasting something precious on someone who can't appreciate it.
Shunin - 主任 - the person in charge (of a department)
Tenshoku - 天職 - vocation or lifework, a "calling." Literaly, "Employment from Heaven."
Akisamiya - あきさみよ - Okinawan expression of surprise or shock. Usually spoken by older people. Was often used when suddenly coming across one of the dangerous snakes that inhabit the islands.
Presceptorship - プリセプターシップ - Training period for new nurses to a hospital. Basically a chance to let them get their feet wet and aclimatized to the hospital's culture before letting them carry out duties on their own. The Presceptor is the senior training nurse.
Shacho - 社長 - President of a company. Much like 'Tencho' is the owner of a shop.
Oshidori Fuufu - おしどり夫婦 - "Mandirin Duck Couple." A married couple who are active in similar work or fields of endevour and who take good care of their children. Named after the Mandarin Duck which, as a pair, works closely together to raise their family of ducklings.
Kariyushi - かりゆし -Usually something spoken as a prayer along a journey, it is a word denoting something joyous and of good fortune. Used as a name for boat and tourist destinations, it is also widely used for the names of sake. In kanji it is written, "嘉例吉" (Kareiki - Fortune of a happy precedent).
Shuri-jo Castle - 首里城 - Ancient historic Okinawan castle on the main island. See here for more details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuri_Castle
Nodo Jiman - のど自慢 - A popular NHK production featuring amateur singers. Literally meaning "Throat Boast," it allows ordinary people to come and sing in front of a national audience. One of the longest running programs ever. It started shortly after WWII was over.
Kamishibai - 紙芝居 - "Picture Play." An old form of entertainment for children constisting of 10 individually drawn pictures that cumulatively tell a story, usually of a classic Japanese fairy tale. Many of these picture plays are created by hand and given to children in schools, libraries or at home.

| Thanks so much for the sub, Haruspex. You've made a lot of Churasan fans out there very happy. It's really interesting to see how young the characters looked in this first series.

Thank you for this gem. I got hooked on this by accident when it aired in L.A. years ago.
It made me a fan of Japanese dramas from then on.
What a wonderful cast and story. It's a lot better than many doramas that are presented today. The acting by Kanno Miho is not to be missed. Unbelievably funny !

Good luck subbing all these episodes. I had the fortune of living in LA and watching all the episodes when it aired in LA. What a great series this was. I never knew that they edited the episodes since they were only something like 15 minutes each. I thought the time slot they put this in was something like 20 minutes after some 5 minute travel advertisement and then another 5 minutes of commercials.
Thanks for taking on the subbing of this series. Best of luck.
