This is my first upload so I hope everything is working alright ...

I finally managed to get this Jidaigeki Drama complete (after failing to download the formerly here posted batch which has been unseeded for almost a year). As there were still some people interested in the series, I decided to upload this new batch with different files ... the quality is not the best but watchable, the format is .mpg

Please enjoy! This is a must-see classic by now ...

Smile Dear Elisan,

This was one of my favorite TV shows when I was growing up. I loved watching the TV 8th Shogun, Yoshimune, going in disguise in town, solving cases and bringing justice to wrongdoers. It was also one of the most longest running shows in Japan with over 800 episodes, most of which we never saw on Kiku TV in Hawaii with English sub-titles.

You mentioned different files ... are they really different episodes? Or the same episodes for Season 12? I managed to get a copy on e-bay, but if these are different ... Wub I will download them.

The 10 episodes for Season 12 on Kiku TV were: Laugh:

1 Yoshimune is attacked by 3 assassins who are killed. Magistrate Ooka suspects that there is trouble in Kishu, Yoshimune's hometown. Yoshimune goes to check things out as his alter ego, Tokuda Shinosuke.

2. Yoshimune goes to Kishu with Eigoro when he hears that an old friend has fallen ill. He finds that his friend is not ill but is being detained by officials who want him to commit seppuku for killing his father.

3. The men of Megumi fire patrol puts out a fire at the Hanshu-ya warehouse set by an arsonist. The owner says nothing was taken but a cashbox is found in the street.

4. Yoshimune is looking for a new secretary. Arima Hikoemon who must make the selection is shot by one of the candidates. Yoshimune is determined to find the guilty party.

5. Yoshimune with the help of the Megumi fire patrol want to capture the thieves who have been robbing Edo's major businesses..

6. Oko's daughter is convinced that Tokuda Shinosuke (Yoshimune) is the real hero in her favorite comic strip. He takes her to meet the author of the strip. Magistrate Ooka investigates a bribery case.

7. Yoshimune and Eigoro save a geisha who is being harassed, leading into some interesting times for both.

8. Magistrate Ooka is enjoying drinking with Yoshimune and Eigoro when the fire alarm goes out. Rushing to the scene of the fire, Yoshimune sees some men in black heading for Ooka's mansion. He uncovers a deadly plot against his friend.

9. Osaki, a seer, has become popular among people of Edo. Yoshimune discovers the scam plus another plot.

10. Yoshimune sends out Hayato to track the opium that has been spreading in Edo. He also goes in disguise to find out who is responsible. Inspired by his going out among the commoners in disguise, his mother decides to do the same.

Are these the same episodes or cheers different ones? I guess I wanted to know since you mentioned that these were "different" files. Unsure

Thank you for uploading these and for your reply! Big Smile

my jp friends laugh at me whenever i tell them how much i watched 'abarenbo shogun'. i can hum the song and everything. quite embarrassing, but hey, it's how i was brought up.

four million episodes ... and they ALL END THE SAME WAY!! (spoiler for all 4 million episodes below:

Hidden:

scene: bad guys laugh it up about the success of their evil plot until they hear something outside in the courtyard. they open the rice paper screen door, and yoshimune steps into the light.

yosh: you thought you could get away with your evil doings, but not so.
badguy: you insolent scum. who the heck do you think you are??
yosh: do you not recognize the face of your MASTER?? (cue the cymbals as badguy remembers it's the shogun)
badguy: ohmygosh!! uesama (shogun)!! (gets on their hands and knees and bows deeply)
yosh: for all the crap you did in this episode, i command you to commit seppuku!!
badguy: nani??!? i don't give a rip WHO you are! guards, kiri - kiri (kill him)!! (1000 guards who have nothing better to do in the middle of the night than to remain fully dressed with all of their gear come out of nowhere and surround the shogun)
yosh: draws his sword, flips it to the dull edge (starts fight theme music). shogun ninjas who could probably pick these guys off with shurikens all day decide they need some on-camera time and leap into battle.

bad guy dies.

irregardless, i still think the show rocked. thanks for sharing!!

Call me crazy, but this is my favorite show too, I have to admit, and I've seen quite a few others too Laugh

So sorry to disappoint you but these are the same episodes as you listed, only the conversion (.mpg instead of .avi) is different. I tried to get the originally uploaded files to make a re-upload ... but that proved impossible ... anyway, I collected a huge number of episodes (173 by now) in DVD format so I might consider converting and uploading other episodes in the future. This is merely a test of how an upload is working from here ...

It looks awfully slow even though I've given it all the bandwidth I could ... I m afraid you will have to bear with it study Sleeping ... (I also did not expect it to be that popular: 88 leechers to date clapping)

Yep, more than true ... the tag-line is:
Hidden:

"Yo no kao miwasureta ka?" ... "Have you forgotten my face?"

unfortunately there are only 829 episodes, I wouldn't mind 4 Million thumright

I really like the first season best which ran for a total of 207 episodes from 1978-1982. Matsudaira Ken was still very young and looked marvelous. Also there was actually quite a bit of variation in the end-fight and they had a lot of great guest stars like Misora Hibari.
In the later episodes Matsudaira Ken grew as a person but also a bit in stature and of course age (he is still cool as Yoshimune, mind you Roll Eyes ) ...

Dear Elisan, Smile

Thank you for your reply:

"...anyway, I collected a huge number of episodes (173 by now) in DVD format so I might consider converting and uploading other episodes in the future. This is merely a test of how an upload is working from here ..."

I really hope that you will upload the other episodes. Suprise I can't believe that you have 173 w00t so far! I read that Groink has 45 episodes from Season 1. Sigh! I only have 13 from Season 1, 15 from Season 11 and 10 from Season 12. Found those on e-bay last year, but I haven't seen anymore. Tried a rental shop to see other episodes but it was too hard without the English sub-titles so I had to give up. Sad

I read somewhere that they finally issued a DVD set with 28 episodes from the first season in Japan, including several episodes with Misora Hibari. You're right! Ken Matsudaira is cute in the early series! I was so surprised since I was used to how he looks in the later series. Unfortunately, that DVD is Region 2 and there are no English sub-titles Sad

I did find that another long-running series in the rental shops -- Mito Komon -- is a lot of fun! Smile Like Abarenbo Shogun, it has a formulaic ending after fighting the bad guys at the end, ("See this crest! (his pillbox) Show your respect! (everyone bows) Arrest them" ). Mito Komon is the old, "retired" vice chancellor, a relative of the Shogun, who loves to travel in disguise as a retired merchant (Echizen no chirimendonya) with his small group of 5-7 others (including 2 disguised samurai -- Tsuke-san and Kaku-san, Oen, a female ninja, etc.). That has run over 1000 episodes and is still continuing. A connoisseur of the arts and food, he is interested in how the famous products of each region is made, while he uncovers plots and brings justice to wrongdoers. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any with English sub-titles. The old movies (3) are not as much fun as the TV episodes. I like seeing the artisans at work (making paper, wood carving, stone cutting, making sake, paper, weaving, etc.) in the episodes.

Thank you for sharing Wub these episodes. Have a wonderful day! Big Smile clappingBeating heart clapping

I'll keep it seeded as long as possible but I'd appreciate if you or someone else could take over eventually. It look as though it will take 2-3 weeks to complete one full upload. I am really curious ... currently I can give it only up to a total of 25 kB/sec total bandwidth.

Yippie, 98% already, this was much faster than I imagined. I'll keep it seeded for another week after the first completion. I'd be grateful if someone could take over from there. I have begun to convert episodes of the early series, so stay tuned for more.
