Could it be that you are paying for the bandwidth and server charges? Like the way DA asks for donations I suppose..

*sighs*
I really have nothing to say except, "EWWW"
no, actually, I have lots to say, but i just don't want to get into another heated discussion about this, so I'm sure "EWWW" pretty much sums up what I really wanted to say but didn't. _________________ watching: Ryusei no Kizuna, Miss No Good, Bloody Monday, Room of King

A comment about Crunchyroll... The problem I have with these sites is their business models. The model is basically bait-and-switch, and I fricking hate that. First, you open a web site and allow visitors to flood in and enjoy your offerings. Then, later on, you find out that you can no longer afford to keep the site up, so you develop yet another model that creates two products: free/poor quality and paid/maximum quality.
The reason I hate this model is that, like others have indicated, Shinji takes video content developed by others and does with it whatever way he feels. ALL uploads on D-Addicts is meant to be free, and with no strings attached. Shinji then takes our videos and decides to charge visitors a price if they want to experience the videos in 100-percent quality that was available at D-Addicts.
Now, I highly doubt Shinji is a dumb ass, and didn't see that $20,000/month maintenance fee on the horizon. He planned this whole scheme from Day 1. THAT'S what I don't like about him and his site. The feeling you get from his site comes across as if he's a struggling college student and wanted to share anime with a few friends. Bull **** ****! Crunchyroll is nothing more than a for-profit model that many other Web 2.0 sites are now using:
1. Take copyrighted material, develop a free site, and draw a following.
2. Develop statistics on how successful the site is, and start drawing in advertisers. Also develop a pay-for membership, or encourage even more uploading in exchange for cash-like points that count towards membership. This is where people start stealing D-Addicts videos and turn it into points for themselves.
3. As with any other business, the eventual goal is to be purchased by a bigger company. I suspect Crunchyroll's eventual goal is this. Once a buyer sees the huge success of Crunchyroll, he'll purchase the site and incorporate it into whatever model he has.
Veoh has done this. YouTube has done this. Almost every Web 2.0-based company has been purchased. Bait-and-switch, folks! This model is bullshit. I don't think it is right, and I don't want to be a part of it. Each of us capturers and fansubbers have our own thoughts regarding this. I choose not to allow Crunchyroll to take my captures and use it as a money making opportunity.
If all I mentioned isn't true, then why doesn't Shinji just shut Crunchyroll down? If the site becomes too expensive to run, and his expenses far exceeds his revenue, shut the site down!!! I mean, it is only a hobby to him, right? See what I mean? He's keeping the site and the model because he has much bigger plans for it. All you Crunchyroll fans are pawns! I hope at the end Shinji at least gives you a Snickers candy bar or something.

@groink: Couldn't have laid it out any better and you are very right about this. Which is why I really don't like streams as EVERY stream pretty much does this... They begin by looking TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE (Sometimes lol, YouTube sucked since the beginning in terms of Quality), but Veoh was definitely great I liked it.. Until they gone and killed themselves by reconverting the vids to .flv instead of allowing to dl the ORIGINAL File...
But definitely after they know they will succeed they then open up that Donations/Purchase for better benefits (When you can just dl it from here/ other trackers){Some people are a bit 'lazy' to learn torrents and rely on Streams... Which I find to be bleh... Nonetheless CR goes above and beyond to ruin it... Although I give them the benefit of the doubt that they are NICE when it comes to Removing something unlike other streams... And the infamous ones being mysoju and forget the other one.. .As they make it look like they aren't at wrong when they have the embed video rather than actually hosting it.. They are still affiliated as they are showing it via their site so to speak.
So yeah that is life for us... No one can be happy without someone else being unhappy about it... So the profiters are those that don't do sh*t while the ones feeling unhappy are the fansubbers/supporters of the original(ORIGINAL) fanwork {Not necessarily those that are bought/streamed} and that is where all the happiness is... But then these people that sell/stream don't give a flying cr*p and just do as they please to benefit from others hard work >< which really enrages me.. and Liar Game was my epitome of my fansub work... and just trying to go all over the place to have it removed proved to be a challenge... and that is where i got really really devoted to really caring for how these stream/sellers treat the work.. The ones that really tick me off are the Sellers more than the Streamers...
Bah... I guess that is all I have to say for now =/_________________ Sigs by:ChuNaku,Danji,Kazearashi,Kennethzzz,Kiyocchi,S4ku,Tanakachi and Tubster68:

| couldn't we just email each producer (KBS, SBS, MBC, Japanese) and notify them about the site's infringement of copyright policies? Or is that bad cause the subtitle credits will be seen?

If my girlfriend knows about Crunchyroll, the TV networks know about them. They don't need us to monitor and report copyright infringement. Oh, and they know about D-Addicts, too. This whole situation is very much like a dormant volcano. It isn't totally dead, but at the same time you really don't know when it'll blow up.

lol, Haken no Hinkaku is on the list
This discussion has been many many times already, but oh well.
Personally... I don't mind at all. Fansubs - free subs...
I provided these subs for free. People are free to use it in any ways they wish. I'm not responsible for their actions. I do prefer credits to be left alone for free stuff or a chunk of the profit though (obviously I haven't received an offer yet, as you can imagine )
I don't ask for FujiTV's permission for making a script totally based on their copyrighted work, and I download craploads of them from everywhere. Stealing something that costs money is worse than stealing something that's free in my books. I'm not in any position to criticize.
It's really troubling how their links lead to DramaWiki though. That website should be IP banned.
