I asked my japanese teacher and some of my jp friends and they couldn't figure out what it means.Omame doesnt exist in the dictionary because the O is honorific so you have to search for mame. But mame means beans or corn so it doesn't make sense.
Btw , compared to other new jp dramas the number of replys and the number of times the subtitle files are much lesser. So I 've been wondering why.Is it that not a lot of people like this jdrama or people think my subs aren't so good?

I had considered the possibility that the "O" might be honorific, so I checked for "MAME" too. Most of my dictionaries only list the "beans, corn" definition — the word being written 豆, and pronounced まめ.
For whatever it's worth though, one of my dictionaries has a second definition listed for "MAME" (right after 豆), and that one is actually written as まめ. The definition given for it is "blister (on the hand or foot caused by rubbing against something)."
So, uhhh… since the title is "Anna-san's OMAME," but (as the narrator repeatedly tells us) Riri is the main character… and Riri is (in her own cute and lovable way) sort of an irritating nuisance for Anna… and, uhhh… a "blister" might also be described as an irritating nuisance… maybe…
Could it be? "Anna-san's Blister?"

Your subs may not be perfect, but I've seen much, much worse — and that's never stopped anybody from downloading subs before. If the download numbers are low, it's just that the drama itself isn't terribly popular. As nadesico pointed out, there's no proper description on the Drama Wiki. No hype = less popularity.
Keep up the good work, and thanks for the subs!

ZeeSeeS: Assuming おまめ is in fact intended to mean "blister" — although not literally, of course — I consulted a thesaurus in order to find a more palatable translation. Treating "blister" as contextually synonymous with something like "irritant" or "annoyance," these seem to be the most likely candidates:
AFFLICTION, BANE, BLIGHT, CURSE, PAIN, PEST, PLAGUE, SCOURGE, TORMENT.
Whaddya think? I rather like the sound of "Anna's Bane," myself… but maybe you like one of the others better?
Or maybe we could just put it up for a vote?

Wow it seems that you really investigated the matter:P
But I don't think Anna has a problem with Riri.So I don't think it should have a negative meaning like the ones you mentioned.
If you remember Anna said in the first episode that she was an honor student and had no friends but Riri became hers and she kinda "saved" her.So I think Anna really likes Riri and she always calls her shinyuu(best friend).
Your explanation makes sense but it doesn't suit with the drama I think.
But I'd like to hear more opinions about it.Maybe you are right.

I think it's not really negative, so much as deprecatingly humorous. (Or humorously deprecating. Whichever.)
Of course, that's assuming that おまめ, as used in this drama's title, does in fact mean "blister." I guess we'd need a native Japanese speaker's opinion on that to be sure…

You probably have to ask a native speaker about what まめ might really mean, but here's my two cents for what it could be...
There is a phrase 豆知識 which means like trivia or quirky little facts or knowledge... So if you stretch it a bit, you can take アンナさんのおまめ to mean something like "the everyday happenings in Anna's life," in other words, all the little scenarios she and her boyfriend get into as a result of Lily.
I wanna stress this is strictly speculation, but this is what I can make out of it...
Anyways, thanks for subbing it, ZeeZeeS, and giving other people a chance to watch (and actually understand) what's going on... This is probably not one of the easier ones to sub either, since there is a lot of colloquial speech. まあ、頑張れ!

what an intersting discussion, japanese language can be so challenging sometimes, but it's what makes its interest! Although I studied japanese in Uni,I must admit my knowledge is quite limited, but here is my 2 cents:
both explanation makes sense: I mean riri can be considered as anna's blister, in the way she actually helped her at school: she was hurt because she was alone and ignored, and riri "cured" her loneliness. I mean you can consider "blister" like something used to relieve or ease a pain.
the second explanation seems really accurate too because it's the more plausible one in the linguistic way. I've already heard somewhere "little beans of knowledge" and it really summarizes the series.
As japanese language is a very elliptic language sometimes, I'm pretty sure there's a word play on the two meanings.
Anyway, I Thank you tao libra and quashlo for your investigations, that was pretty intersting!_________________ Credit for avatar to loveagain 1@LJ community!!
