This series premiered this past weekend, and is a live-action version of the Jigoku Shoujo anime. In fact, the first episode uses a very similar plot as the first episode of the anime, and much of the same soundtrack music.
Here are some links:

So who here watched this show because they liked the anime? Who has never seen the anime? Either way, what do you think of this version?

I watched first anime series and first ep of live action (second anime series is on air; I will watch when it's completely aired). You are right, anime is episodic, at about half of whole series, story starts developing and developes on slowly.
First live episode is very similar to first episode of anime. I thing it will be similar. They have only 12 eps though (anime has 26), so let's hope the story won't be so slow.
Anyway, anime has a great atmosphere, Enma Ai looks so great, I am afraid that the atmosphere can't be so good in live version. Music here is same (or at least main tunes are the same) as in both series of anime.

The anime series storyline starts to develop around ep6 or 7. I think a lot of people bailed out of it after the first few eps and didn't get the chance to see the storyline develop.
One thing that really made the anime series for me was the choice and use of music. It seems that the dorama series does not make nearly as good use of music, but I think it's too early to judge how good it will be. The music used during the suspense scenes is the same as the anime, but the way the music flows from one scene to the next seems harsher to me in the dorama.
The second season of the anime series ( Futakomori ) seems to be adding some twists that we didn't really see in the first season and they hint more at the origin of Jigoku Shoujo. I like the series a lot, so I'm happy to see a live action._________________ Nemui Subs

| I gave up on the anime cuz it was alot like American tv where each episode is different....there wasn't any storyline. Sorry to hear that they did put in a storyline later in the anime. It was a good anime.
