Ruroshin, just out of curiosity, what kind of reasoning would a person have to want to DoS d-addicts anyways? The community is pretty passive and isn't really hostile..

Anyways, there are phpBB tweaks that automatically block DoS attempts so you don't have to worry about bandwidth issues.

who knows why ppl do DoS attacks, we get attack at least one every couple of month. Fortunately they're not massive DDoS attack so they can be diverted.

phpBB tweaks will not stop DoS attacks that we were getting. Heck I even changed the whole site to static HTML at one stage but they still managed to used up all the connection resources. No phpBB code will help when you get 100 requests/second.

I fall into that range, I was banned too.
well better go to school's library to access this site or change sbc..

I have lifted the banned inconsideration for other people. If you continue to be rude then I'm putting the ban back in place. Here's a tip, if you want to use a site don't go around insulting the owner of it and follow the rules of the place.

Correct. The attacks you're getting are probably either ICMP or UDP hacks, which are layer-3 and layer-4 DoS attack. phpBB is a layer-7 application, so the attack is on the hardware and not the specific application.

Seeing you're changing sites, you may also want to ask the future site admin about how they handle DoS attacks within their core system. Their gateways and switches should protect your server if they have the proper anti-DoS implementations in place on these devices (IOS upgrades and tweaks, etc.)

i posted this in the tech disscussion forum but no resposes so i went searching and found this.

don't know why but i was able to download an ep. of a series just a few days ago. all of a sudden, the following day, i wasn't able to get back into the website. i tried to google it to get in but it keeps giving me the website not found message so i thought the forum was just down. i tried going in through another computer and was able to get in so it's not the website. has anyone else have this problem? is there anyway to fix this so i can access the site again from my home computer? it's like something is preventing me from accessing the site from my home computer...this is so weird...please help. thanks.

maybe i fell into this range and got blocked? i'll go home and see what ip address i have and can email to admin so i can get unblock as i love this site and does want to continue coming here.

if your internet service provider is SBC...then you're out of luck. The admins banned everyone from SBC. I suggest you change ISP. Verizon is actually cheaper and better as well. salut

well its not the entire SBC network that would be huge, just a certain subnet of it.

Well if I suddenly can't access the site I'll have a pretty good idea why. Laugh

Does it have to do with IP Addresses? Mine changes constantly? Just wondering? Sorry if I'm being a pain in the ass. I just want to make sure I can still get in here. I might die without my drama fix. Laugh

Gee, if IP blocks are tied to physical locations, I think I figured out where the banblock is physically tied to...
I moved last week, and it looks like I'm in the banned range now... Fear

At most cable ISPs, IP blocks do get moved around. A few times, when I reset my cable modem, upon bootup I ended up with a completely different IP block (ex: 65.128.x.x to 124.88.x.x). Also, every ISP owns packs of IP subnets that is scattered throughout the class-b and class-c portions. The older the ISP, the more scattered the IP blocks. There are efforts at several ISPs to perform what they call "IP re-alignment", where an ISP would trade IP blocks with ARIN for new IP blocks that are much closer together. The advantage is that there would be less entries when performing BGP peering. An IP re-alignment would, however, make it easier for a site like D-Addicts to ban even more users at a given ISP with just one mask (versus multiple masks.)

Does anyone have the email address for the site admin so I can email him/her personally to see if my ip address is really blocked? For some reason, I still can't access the site and it's driving me crazy. Thanks!

I checked your IP address and, as far as I can tell, it isn't being banned by D-addicts. You probably need to contact your ISP.

Thanks for checking. I also did some research and someone online suggested I try to get into the site using the d-addicts ip address. When I tried that I still can't get in. Here's the results I got...

Pinging d-addicts.com [217.172.47.90] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 217.172.47.90:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)

Is this the correct ip address for d-addicts? Strange thing is I was able to get into the drama.wiki site but unfortunately, I'm still getting the stupid DNS error on IE when I try to go to the main d-addicts site from home. I've deleted cookies, rebooted my modem, and nothing. My ip address from home starts with 71.146. and I use SBC DSL. Any help to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated as I am having d-addicts withdrawl right now. Goggle eyes Sad Thanks.

Not too sure if this will help, but check through, you might find something:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ipconfig.mspx?mfr=true

This won't help at all. The problem is more likely either routing between his ISP and D-Addicts, or it is remotely possible that one of the ISP's gateways is on the ban list. The only way to really study this is to perform a tracert command, and then post the results. Ruroshin can then look down the list of gateways to see if any of them are on the ban list.
