Notes:
Hai - may mean the following : yes, yeah, I understand, ok
Oneesan/ Oneechan - older sister (or an older girl)
Oniisan/Oniichan - older brother (or an older guy)
San - Mr/Mrs/Ms
Chan - used to express endearment, mostly toward girls. It is also used for little boys, pets and even among lovers, it gives a sense of childish cuteness.
Kun - suffix is used at the end of boys' names to express familiarity or endearment. It is also sometimes used by men among friends, or when addressing someone younger or of a lower station.
Sensei - this term isn't only used for teachers, but also professionals, like doctors and writers.
Cram School - it's also a called a prep school, where they take additional lessons in order to get into the school of their choice. (can be expensive)
Kanji - names may be written in kanji which are symbolic characters, hence some names have meanings.
Chirashi Zushi -sushi rice in a bowl with scattered toppings.
kuro = black, shiro = white (these are also used as dog names)
Out of premise learning - kinda like a field trip, but that just didn't sound right.
unajuu - bowl of eel and rice
"tongue-hanging" - about 40 min into ep 2 Akira mentions "tongue-hanging", he actually used the word "egui" which is a flavor that doesn't have an english counterpart, but it's something that will make your tongue hang. Google it for more info.
manga - a comic or cartoon, google for more info.
Bari-Bari - I don't really know what show she was trying to say, so if you know what it is, please do advise. (Supposed name of a variety show)
Pluto - has been stripped of it's status as a planet, it's because it has no clear bounds(Kiri) like the other planets.
It's straight- I couldn't understand what song she was saying, so again this is just based on the context.
galley proofs - preliminary versions of publications, usually uncut and unbound, often electronic.
Doraemon - The series is about a robotic cat named Doraemon, who travels back in time from the 22nd century to aid a schoolboy, Nobita Nobi.
I'm sorry - can be said in various different ways, normally I would've translated them all as I'm sorry, but because of the situation, I had to change some to their literal meaning like: moshiwake arimasen lit. means I have no excuse.
ore/boku - both are pronouns which means "I" and are used by guys, ore has a more boastful sound to it, and boku is a more polite one.
ojichan - means uncle, but indicates a closer relationship (not necessarily uncle by blood, but can be any middle-aged man)
Seirin - Holy Bell
IUGR - Intrauterine growth restriction, this is a term for a baby who is smaller than normal during pregnancy. The baby is not growing inside the uterus at the normal rate. These babies usually have a low weight at birth.
Children's Center/Jidoukan - similar to a daycare, they sometimes have after school programs
Retort/Tsukkomi - in a comedy duo, Tsukkomi is also the straight man who corrects the foolish one.
Hayashi Rice - Hashed meat with rice
Maternity Handbook/Boshi Techou - A handbook that is given when you register your pregnancy and the birth with the ward office. The handbook includes immunization records and coupons for free checkups, ultrasounds and various tests.
