I think someone already asked that question few months ago. Well, I think its highly unlikely. Trying to land any big gigs in Korea is like an Asian trying to make it big in America. Very difficult. But most importantly is the language barrier. If you see on screen, most actors are Asian or mixed Asian.

Interesting question, lokilla. I'm not sure if non-Asians would get star roles in Korean dramas. I remember there was a drama with a Caucasian lead actor. (I believe it was only one or two episodes long, probably a drama city.) But, I'm sorry I didn't watch the drama because I didn't find it interesting, so I couldn't tell you anything other than he was a leading actor in a short Korean Drama Series.

So far most other non-Asian actors I've seen were usually acting as businessmen and not in star roles. Recently, I made a comment to my friend as we watched a non-Asian actor in a Korean Drama about how English speaking non-Asian actors' acting remind me of the acting done in porn films. Perhaps it's because they talk so slow, not sure but the acting is pretty bad.

The exception I've notices is one actor that I find acts well and has been in at least a couple of Korean dramas. I'm sorry, I could not find his name for you guys. He was in Stairway to Heaven and Seoul 1945. In Stairway to Heaven he was Song-ju's driver/assistant/bodyguard, not sure really, but he was always there to assist Song-ju...the one with the glasses. I wonder if he has an agent or manager or something to land him these jobs. Didn't he speak some Korean in Stairway to Heaven also...I can't remember.

LOL! Not as long as fans believe Koreans are more handsome/pretty/beautiful/georgous than other ethnic groups. Keep in mind that the physical appearance of an artist is VERY CRITICAL in Korean entertainment. A white guy with a large nose won't get him any lead or supporting role in Seoul. Laugh

@pucca: The older white guy you mentioned was also the evil guy in Love Story At Harvard. Seems to do good guys and evil ones pretty well..

Oh yeah? Thanks aNToK, I never could get past eps one of Love Story at Harvard. It's going to bug me that I don't know his name...which shows that even though his character is important to the storyline, he isn't thought enough of as an actor to give credits on some websites. If I find his name I will post it.

add:
LMAO, koreanwiz.org lists the character Professor Kent (is that who he plays), but the actor's name is left blank!

He speaks English and Korean fluently... He's a great actor whether he'd be playing in korean role or english role...

He is in korean dramas quite a bit.....

Right now he's in Seoul 1945....

He's a beast...

*waves to puccakiss* long time no chat Smile

Yea, that caucasion guy is good. I was shocked his korean was so fluent. At first I questioned if they dubbed his voice lol

But as for non-asian, male or female to get a lead role in Korean drama is next to impossible. No matter how good looking they are. Its just weird. Imagine 2 korean guys chasing a caucasion female haah. I would cheer for the supporting actress whose Asian then ^^;
Or if the guy is caucasion. Caucasion guy vs Asian guy chasing an Asian girl. I would tend to prefer the Asian guy getting the girl ^^; Anyhow, unless you look somewhat asian (mixed) and you are good looking, even if you can't act well or speak korean, you'll still make it. Look at a few examples ^^; DO and DH pinch

i think this depends on the story....

when the story needs a non-asian lead... there will be one...

but unfortunately 99.9% of the kdrama storys don't need any non-asian lead... that's why non-asian can hardly be popularized in korea drama industry

Oh this is a tough question..I think wen they need a caucasian in the storyline yes..but have to agree with plcchung..I mean its easy for other asians to cross boundaries like Chinese or halfies starring in dramas or becomign popular because ultimately to be a Superstar you have to be really popular in all asian countries thats why you see Bi and like other people going and propmoting their stuff in Philippines, Thailand etc. But yeh i don't think its because Koreans think they are the most beautiful ethnic group..rather if they are goin to have shows liek their own drama industry then why have non-korean actors..might as well watch cable shows from America. Plus its quite hartd to put a caucasian in a very asian story line

I dont think caucasians can play soem of the charactyers or egt away with it like asians can...for example the My Sassy girl type or the cute childish type liek Chae Gyung in Goong.
