[I'll post the usual episode blurb later]
This is our first x264 release!!
Because x264 offers much better quality for smaller file sizes than XviD, all our future hardsub releases will be encoded with the x264 codec. Except for this episode, future episode file sizes will be smaller ^^
To play the video, it is recommended to download and install CCCP (http://www.cccp-project.net/) which has all you need to play x264 encoded files.
If you have the latest ffdshow or Video Lan VLC, you should also be able to play the video.

hey just to let people know there are new changes with our encodes. mainly dr kkaeng is now x264 and remainder eps will be x264. we are adopting x264 as our standard codec. like ce.ar said vlc (video lan) and cccp will help. also if you have cccp then mpc is also good to be used. you can get cccp from google by type cccp and the first link is what you want. cccp stands for combined community codec pack. also audio file will change to ac3 or aac. its up to the encoder. mp3 is going to be gone after this ep. they will remain as hardsub video files though. also there are some cool effects that will be in the episode mainly in the ending credits.
for the smaller file sizes there are two canidates. that i am checking out.
have fun watching dr kkaeng ep 7

| Only concern I have is "Does x264 play on regular standalone Divx/Xvid players?" I hope it does because that's how I usually watch my dramas.

| sadly no but they're are players that are coming out or already out that play them. i could be wrong though. dvix/xvid players play mpeg4 codecs. x264 is an mpeg 4 avc codec. i mainly watch files dramas on my computer and i recent;y got a new one. with a 19inch hd monitor. and all my xvid video looks horrible, while x264 looks spectacular. so im ditching tv. its a little bit of an inconvience, but usually better quality stuff comes with some type of inconvience. i heard that hd dvd and blue ray player/disc are going to be mpeg4 avc so try asking around at like best buy or google.com.

ok people. one x264 is also know as h264. its a high quality codec. Xvid is in no shape or form a competor. it like comparing a ps2 to ps (playstation im talking about.) which game would you play a ps game or a ps2. most likely a ps2 unless its like ff7 or xenogears. second if your concerned on watching it on tv true most avi players can't play it. so a solution is buying a video card from nvidia that has a tv out. im not rich but i own one. there not that much money. go to newegg.com. have an not to old computer nexto your tv and just hook it up that way. second macs can play h264 files. i was talking to a team member who owns a mac. you need vlc for this type of file. also the creators of vlc are the ones who made this x264 encoder codec i used. if an h264 file is in mp4 you just need the latest version of QT. also just make sure your osx is also up to date. and you should be fine.
also try before giving up on things really. i can't stand xvid encodes cause my monitor which is hd monitor, can depict every single block, noise, weird color deformations, and other mpeg 4 artifacts known to man.
example: i mean no offence to sars, i love your guys work but hana yori dango. looked good on my tv, on my old monitor (which was a five year old model) looked very nice on. but my new one i can see a lot more mpeg 4 problems the video is not even clear to me anymore, what used to look like an hq encode looks like a mq or a possible lower version.
my encode test for dr kkaeng ep 8 at 460mb x264/h264 looks extremely better in every aspect to the 700mb xvid of dr kkaeng. its very clear and is still an hq at 460mb. at 350 it was only a little bit better than the 700mb version of dr kkaeng. noticable problems but probably seen on a regular monitor it would look good.
how can I judge and release an encode that looks horrible. i can't do it and i won't. i take too much pride in my work whether it be a fansub or real job. would you wanna buy a shirt filled with holes and dirty from a store? i wouldn't. thats what xvid seriousely looks like on my hd monitor.
i had a long day and the last thing i needed to see was two kinda stupid comments. i sorry if i had offened anybody by this comment i wrote. i just want to to the best job that i can. not the worst and not settle with something thats not great.
also to sars i love your guys work, your encoder did a fantasic job on the series and karaoke was awsome. and translation was superb job. keep it up. i just needed an example and i am currently re-watching hanna yori dango. i have watched it way to many times (only your version though).

Thanks so much for the episode.
I think changing the codec is the only thing you can do... You should not worry about it. I had started to use h264 for my DVD rips already, and it's handling HD files way better than any other codec. And since everyone wants the best quality available, they will soon get used to it.
Keep it up.
Camille

x264 is hardly better in any sense, it is still very beta, whereas xvid is tried and tested.

If it aint broken, don't fix it.
