hey members,

the new NFL season is about to start and i'm pretty excited. i created a 'fantasy football' thread last year, but i guess it died. (btw, i just used the word "american" to distinguish between american football and soccer - not to say only americans can participate in this thread....)

my friends and i have been playing fantasy football for over 10 years. but i'll never get sick of it.

this thread is for DA fans to talk about NFL or fantasy football stuff. it's actually got followers in japan and korea. (hines ward is half-korean and supposedly pretty popular in korea, and japan has hosted nfl games in the past.)

so who's on your fantasy team? what's your fantasy league like?
got questions about who to start/bench?
who do you think is going to the superbowl this season?

Wow, I haven't watched football (or TV) since the last superbowl. I heard that in the first giants game the manning brothers are facing off against each other. My moneys on Elie, youth always wins (plus I'm a giants fan lol). I'll try my best to watch that game.

Big Smile FANTASY FOOTBALL, hell yeahs.

I have only 3 teams this year...Usually I have many more.

): I had culpepper last night, ugh. I still think he will break out this year, it will just take time.

I won't touch Alexander this year, I don't want to think about what it would feel like to be one of his ligaments this year when it bursts.

Superbowl picks? Panthers (go bandwagoning) OR Redskins from the NFC...AFC...I like the Bengals AND the Chargers...I dunno if the Chargers will pervail with Rivers at QB though.

I thought I'd just share a perspective from someone who isn't American.

Here is Aus we call it gridiron. We already have four other types of football (AFL, Union, League, Soccer) so it's too confusing to call it football as well.

The only game they show here is the Superbowl and maybe some weekly highlights on pay tv late at night.

I lived in Ohio for a while so I go for the Bengals and the Browns.

I went to one Ohio State game, and the crowd was great, but the play stopped and started so much and it went for like 4 hours. Plus there was like 80 players on the sidelines for each team,. I don't get reallly get that??

On TV I find it pretty boring to watch coz there are so many timeouts and ad breaks, but I found it very fun to play with my American friends.

kotae: yeah, they're really playing up the manning vs manning show. i don't think it's going to be much of a showdown. peyton's way ahead of eli. and the colts def is pretty darn good. it would have been better if it had been later in the year, or better yet, next year.

hate playing multiple leagues (although i do), cuz then you have conflicting players which leads to conflicting emotions! Laugh (you know what i mean)

made a bet w/ my friend at the beginning of last season and easily won. culpepper only looks good when he has #84 moss to throw to. i don't feel he's a good qb at all. in minn, he had a great line, great RBs, great WRs. i don't think miami's offense is as good as last year's minn's. therefore, i don't think culpepper's going to do well. sorry. just my opinion.

haha! just because he's on the cover of madden?? Laugh my friend has him, so i won't shed much of a tear if it happens. but i do like the guy. very down-to-earth. IMO, he will have a good season - as long as he doesn't get injured.

Rakkie: i've got a huge amount of respect for you aussies that play rugby. pretty brutal. you guys must think we're p*ssies for putting on pads!

yeah, it's definitely a different point of view and how you're brought up. i love football and basketball. i can't watch baseball or soccer. BUT, when i'm in asia, i can. guess the crowd really gets you into it.

as a very analytical guy, i think i've broken it down to this: in basketball/football, it's great for simple americans such as myself to figure out when the small successes occur and when i should cheer or get excited. in soccer, i don't. to me (and i'm not dissin' your sport), i see the ball getting kicked around for hours, and the game ends with one goal. i think if i knew more of the rules, i would appreciate it more.

aah football....I didn't have time to watch football games last year and the year before, was too busy....and the way it goes for me this year, seems like I won't be able to watch it again, but I still go for the panthers....don't ask me why, but just because they're name's after the wild cats "panthers" that's why I like them, so don't laugh Laugh ....I'm so intrigue with panthers (cats) I even bought a picture of it....just beautiful picture, and I called it "panther of the night" as soon as I spoted from afar (at the end of the building, they where selling some arts), and sure enough, when I came closer and pick the picture up....it is called "the night of the panther", but to this day I still call it "panther of the night"....sorry for the explanation, but most people always asked why did I choose the panther's team and I live in Wisconsin....
for soccer game, the excitement for me is when they pass the ball around, taking from one end of the field to the other end and trying to shoot a goal, and using the legs in blocking the ball and stealing it....that's exciting for me....so jholic, maybe just try to watch it, and follow the ball, how is it been passing from one team player to the next, then maybe, just maybe you'll get excited (don't watch it on TV though, you really have to watch in real life); hope you get what I mean....or maybe I'm just simple minded to be excited by the game Laugh....

as for baseball game, my dad used to make me go watched the men's game since I was in grade school.....I used to be the only young girl among the men at the field Laugh....bring me back old memories....the men were so used to see me at the field, that if I missed one or two games, they'd asked why I wasn't there the other day (when they found out that my dad always sent me to go watch the games ) ( I only missed those games if my dad is not home Laugh, because baseball game was boring to a little girl, until I fully understood it Laugh)....then palyed it, but I used to throw the ball the men's way, and I used to throw curve ball....I was very feminine, and the guy's where always surprised that I could pitch and bat, because I walked very softly and I talked very softly Laugh....well I guess girls can be just as good as boys in sports sometimes when playing with them or against them Laugh....sorry for the long posts.....I'm boring you guys to death Laugh....

mimmi: if you're in WI, you should be a packers fan. just kidding. it doesn't matter. great info, though.

hey, how did your fantasy teams do? i'm actually going a bit overboard this year and playing three. i won two and dropped the other one. i've been trying out nfl.com and foxsports.com, but i still feel yahoo's the best for FF. free leagues are still available there.

I dropped 2 and won 1.

The two I dropped, I got murdered by the Baltimore defense, I was watching the baltimore game and they looked scary good.

sorry, I don't play fantasy football....my son told me last year to try it, he said that I might like it (my kids and husband usually find games for me to play), but haven't got around to do it....too busy, maybe one of these days, I'll check it out Smile....

Quote:
Based on his press conference Thursday, Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells has gotten weary of the T.O. questions. Parcells refused to answer any "Terrell questions" and that was that. Who can blame the 65-year-old coach? Parcells is coaching a football team, not a one-receiver circus.
Randy Galloway, a long-time columnist in Dallas, calls the Owens' acquisition "Jerry's $10 million disaster." But that isn't truly the case. Owner Jerry Jones thinks his money has been well spent.

WTF, did Terrell Owens marry a drama star or something?

Ah, new guy who doesn't seem to know where he is. Nevermind....
